Or, if he isn't backed financially by Wael this could also affect his reputation if he has a bad 17-18 season.
There will always be risks either way but I think if the right club with the right setup came in, he will be off.
As much as we all love Bristol Rovers we are a small club.
Its sad to say this but there is 9 other managers who are better than him in this league why would they choose him ? Your conveniently ignoring the previous promotions, funny really

Thanks Scooby that's all I need grammar lessons from a dog! He'll be off to nibble at his own bum soon. Give him a Scooby snack and he might let you do it?

Just shows the gap developing between the Championship and League 1 in terms of the wages clubs can pay. I'd guess that Etheridge is on pretty good money already compared to most of us on the forum and if he can increase wage 6 or 7 times by moving on then it just shows how difficult it is to build a promotion challenging team. So I guess that's Etheridge and Oztumer are off our shopping list. This is why Wael is right about the importance of developing our own and putting money into the academy and development squad. The option of increasing playing budget by a couple of million is just not sustainable for a club of our size. I think this is why we hear the mantra 'evolution not revolution'. I fully expect to see 3 or 4 under 23 signings this year to boost the development squad with the hope that a couple come through in the next year or two.
This is very true but also we need a good scouting network in place to find potential gems.
I said on here pre season that Walsall had signed a very good player in Oztumer, one we should have signed, because ive watched Dulwich Hamlet quite a lot. What are the chances anyone at Bristol Rovers has ever seen a Dulwich Hamlet game?
Agree completely, investment in scouting network is vital for the Wael model to work and DC mentioned in his last interview the need to look at how the club recruits. It's a particular skill some have in spotting players with potential and not a skill I have unfortunately. Well, done for spotting Oztumer earlier in his career ... did you mention it to anyone at the club?

Yes he mentioned it to bing bong man but he was too busy giving out announcements about bikes blocking driveways.

Three will already be in the Championship next season, some are already damaged goods/too old, apart from Appleton, who himself has failed elsewhere, DC must have the most impressive CV as a young up and coming manager? If Blackburn or Forest wanted a good Div 1 manager next season, who would they approach?

There are so many hidden gems in the lower leagues still .I understand that a lot of people want to change the way we do transfer business but even at this level there is nothing wrong with taking a punt on a non-league 'sensation'.
I remember watching Connor Washington in Cornwall few years back thinking ''Yeah he's good but not good enough for pros'' We need that kind of scouting to watch these lads and take a punt on them. When it all comes down to it like me watching Washington, I may think I know a lot of about football, when really in the grand scheme of it all I know * all.

I didn't no, I did recommend Gylfi Sigurdsson to Rovers a while before he went to Crewe on loan. Wasn't a bad shout either was he!
