Don't think DC did too badly in the loan market last season. Boateng, Colkett and Clarke-Salter all had quality and made contributions, whilst Sweeney and Lumley were revelations. If we make 5 or 6 permanent signings and the rest are loans there's no reason why that shouldn't work. Add to that list - Roberts, Roos, James & Harris. Oh, and also add 4 permanent signings - Hartley, Moore, Partington & Burn. 8 (no 11) players that frankly contributed very little apart filling up a space on the pitch occasionally. The only two successes were the obvious. To be fair Hartley scored as many or more league goals as our two current strikers in much fewer games. - but probably at fault for as many the other end. We will need the 10/11 players he is talking about. your opinion is invalid if you think Harris was a loan

Bury have made a quick start to their signings but I've mentioned on another thread that if you go on the Bury forum most are really happy about a potential forward line of Beckford and Vaughan and Dawson in midfield. But some others are questioning where the money is coming from and there's rumours about how the club is run, which if true, sound really questionable. Not sure that Bury is the benchmark for us and I guess we need to be patient and wait for the signings to happen. Perhaps it's just a Rovers thing that we don't make early signings like other clubs might. Bury had financial problems last season and I don't think they've sold a player for much money and their crowds hover around 4000 so don't know if what they are doing is sustainable. We'll see I guess. When you see other clubs, potentially your rivals, making signings then I guess it's frustrating but DC has said in his interview that he has his targets in order so we just need to be patient! Easier said than done in the close season!! UTG! but you forget we must spend, spend, spend and get players in quick
the reasons why we might not don't matter

obviously we must act quick because a massive number of deals have been done and everyone is signing players (or not). 20 something players (some not even near our radar)out of what will be thousands of deals

So, I've answered my own questions. All 3 players were without contracts with 2 of them being released. Beckford scored 1 goal in 18 last season. All 3 players are in their 30s. If we signed 3 players like that it would prove 1 thing only. The return of the days of offering long contracts to players looking for a final payday, and the abandonment of actually finding talent that is undeveloped. DC has done ok so far hasn't he? Absolutely spot on...

Mansfield and Bury have been very busy. All other 46 clubs will be starting to panic but I bet Notts Co and Cambridge will still manage to sign about 15 players each! They usually do and then wonder why things don't go according to plan. Mind you, and I rarely mention players, I reckon Luke Berry at Cambridge could improve us. Unfortunately he'll be too expensive I expect. UTG!

Bury hardly set league one alive last season, I for one am not panicking just because they have signed a few players. Are they at the top of League one this season? Oh, I have just remembered, the new season does not start for another 2.5 months! UTG!

So Lumley and Sweeney were rubbish? No manager in the world could say that every signing they've made has been a success but DC has got a good enough record for me with regards to his signings. He also knows when a player isn't what everyone thinks he is like LDV and Dawson. His record when it comes to goal keepers is not that good is it. Joanna was what the 4th one he had in before he got a good one ? The premise was that he'd 'done ok', not been perfect in every case ffs.

Beckford's main attribute was his pace, which has gone and he has looked shocking the last few seasons. 3 goals in the last few years. Dawson not wanted by Scunthorpe, so there must be a reason and getting on a bit now. Someone said they gave them both 3 year deals as well. If they have that's shocking and asking for trouble. We used to be like that, glad we have changed for the better. Think they will struggle over the next few seasons like that. Not strictly true, he was offered a contract by Scunthorpe, I would imagine the comfort of a 3 year deal was a major swing. It's Matt Gill

His record when it comes to goal keepers is not that good is it. Joanna was what the 4th one he had in before he got a good one ? Chapman was decent. Puddy did the job he was brought in for and Roos looked a decent signing at first to most of us. Roos and Nichols did turn out to be poor signings though. Glad we've forgotten the bloke who came in the Conference season

i will be very surprised if DC gets anything like 10 or 11 players... More like 5 or 6 average players and a few cheap loan players Don't think DC did too badly in the loan market last season. Boateng, Colkett and Clarke-Salter all had quality and made contributions, whilst Sweeney and Lumley were revelations. If we make 5 or 6 permanent signings and the rest are loans there's no reason why that shouldn't work. Its all about opinions but i thought boateng, colkett and clarke-salter were all pretty poor.

Another winger to have caught the eye is Jordan Maguire-Drew on loan at Dagenham from Brighton. Can play on either wing and impressed with 15 goals and 9 assists, including this beauty - /video/1
Could be a decent loan signing.

To counter that Sweeney & Lumley were outstanding, if they'd been here all season we'd have at least made the Play Offs and one of them would probably have been our Player of the Year. Loan deals are the same as permanent deals some work, some don't, possibly the last two were more expensive signings but that's something we'll never know.

We have this debate every year, before we've drunk all last season's beer, We always should spend, Forgeting dead-ends, that we've bought on the basis of fear.
Time always change, that's sure, But just because players once scored, it means nothing today, just a massive payday, For a player who's jaded and bored.
Names mean too much in this game. Big money for their 5 mins of fame, We bought them for years, Brought us nothing but tears, and our board will not do it again.
