Roos 6 Not much to do but handled well and made a couple of decent saves in the first half
Leadbitter 7 Strong defensively and good going forward Lockyer 8 Excellent game, best from him this season Clarke-Salter 7.5 defended well Brown 6 not at his best in that formation imo
O. Clarke 5 ok nothing really good nothing really bad Sinclair 6 ran and ran poor finishing but not his strong point Boateng 6 unlucky to be subbed imo Colkett 4 couldn't get in the game
Easter 6 better when played behind the front two Harrison 5 put himself about better but poor hold up play and bringing others into the game
Subs: Lines 7 better with him on the pitch Taylor 6 quiet but always likely to score and he can pass Gaffney 7 held the ball up and brought others into the game, our play in the final third is much better with him playing
Crowd 6 cold and not much to inspire them Ref 6 not bad MK Dons 7 seen them twice now, very good passing team but no end product today

Looks like we went to different games. Who did you watch? come on don't be so down because they lost. we murdered Posh but didn't get the goals. I think it's fair to say we were the stronger team but "murdered Posh" I don't think so.
The primary objective is to score goals, how many shots on target did we have?

Roos 5 very little to do but bad mistake for their first goal and this is becoming too regular
Leadbitter 6.5 Always available and got us the penalty but his crossing is poor Lockyer 6.5 steady game but must do better for their second goal Clarke-Salter 6 a promising young player but showed his immaturity at times, I am more confident with Hartley Brown 7.5 getting back to something like his best form
Sinclair 7.5 a strong game, can't fault his work rate O. Clarke 7 did well, I think DC made a mistake taking him off today Lines 7.5 though he was very strong today, good range of passing and some excellent forward runs Colkett 6 a talent when on the ball, good passing/flicks but offers nothing out of possession, being in the no 10 spot is not for him, if Charlie play's he has to be deeper allowing him to get on the ball, as a 10 he's a luxury.
Taylor 6 kept going, took his penalty well and joined up play Gaffney 8 pipped Lines for my MOTM, worked very hard and a constant threat
Subs; Harrison 4 limited contribution did nothing Easter 6 not on long enough, is far better suited to play to 10 role as offers more out of possession
Crowd 7 Good crowd and loud Ref 4 I don't like to criticise officials but he was poor today Peterborough 5 very average, offered little but did a job and took the points, tells us something

Totally agree, to see Lines MOM, and Ellis score plus seeing Locks on the pitch, 3 products of our youth set up is an absolute credit to the club and I think fans can relate to that, it would be great to see one or two more in the future

Roos 6 very little to do but comfortable Leadbitter 5 quiet first half, got more involved second half. Appears to be lacking a little confidence to take people on Lockyer 6.5 steady game Hartly 7 the strongest of the 3 central defenders today Clarke 5 very quiet game Brown 6 another who had a quiet 1st half but better in the 2nd half Lines 8.5 MOM by some margin today, worked hard, always available and a great goal Sinclair 6 hard working and got some important challenges which was vital given Colkett/Lines don't tackle too often Colkett 5 weakest game so far, didn't touch the ball until the 19th minute, some good passes but formation didn't suit him and he was physically inferior and pushed off the ball too often Gaffney 5.5 never stopped but poor service and lost out to the central defenders in the air Taylor 5 poor game by Matty's standards, other than his assist for Lines was pretty anonymous
subs Harrison 7 freshened things up and took the goal well Bodin 6 still not back to his form of last season but we were a little more threatening when he came on Monty 6 like Bodin we were more threatening when Monty came on
Crowd 7 decent number and kept going even when we conceded Ref 5 Gills 5 disappointing

I don't understand why some people seem to have an obsession with young Charlie, is it because he has Chelsea on his CV? If you read my historic posts I am all for giving young players a chance (particularly our own young players), and Charlie seems like a bright and articulate young man, during his cameo appearances to date he looks very tidy, he has an excellent range of passing and has even chipped in with a nice goal but this is a lad has never played a professional game before coming to Rovers. He seems delighted to be getting the experience and I am sure he will continue to get more minutes but IMO Darrell is right to bleed him, and others in cautiously. We must be careful not to burden young players with too much expectation to soon, we must also accept that consistency is a challenge for young players so let's be careful.

As we should expect there is a step up, players are more comfortable on the ball, formations are more fluid and finishing is more clinical but on the other side it is not as physical as league 2. As much as there is a gap between league 2 and league 1 I believe the gap between league 1 and the championship will be larger again the gap between the championship and the Premier League enormous so we must keep learning, evolving and adding/growing more technical talent to the squad.

Sorry but I can't believe fuss being made about this, good for the club to have a go. As my son attended the event I took the opportunity to quiz him and more than a dozen of his friends all of whom said that the Rovers stand was excellent and there were several of the young pro's Broom, Malpas and one other who were excellent, they were talking to all the students, playing games and encouraging everybody to attend games. Apparently they were a hit and represented the club very well. To put some context to that the other stands were giving free Rizla papers, Desperado's and other similar gifts. In summary, the stand was not brilliant but fit for purpose and the lads did us proud.

Thanks Steve a decent report and I agree with most of it. We should be careful with Colkett to manage expectation, IMO he did OK for his short time on the pitch but that was at a time when they were down to 10, they were tiring and the game was stretched. He was neat and tidy with a decent eye for a pass but I think to claim he should start is a big risk and asking to much for him at this stage, physically as much as anything.
At the end of the game yesterday I was grateful for a point however I think this has to go down as a missed opportunity.
Tuesday we must surely go 442, and bring Moore and Montano into the squad, ideally starting one or both. Central Midfield Boatang and Lines.

Re the Ollie Clarke debut, he was 20, last game of the 2010-11 season with nothing to play for which is a normal time to try some youngsters. Lines made his debut at 21 so in my opinion we need to be patient and give the likes of Broom and others a little time. There will always be exceptions such as Ampadu but these are rare and often linked to the league position and clubs financial position unless you find a superstar such as Rashford. I have no doubt the likes of Broom will get some game time this year but ideally this will either come in the EFL cup or at the end of the season if we are comfortable and not in playoffs etc. Assuming these lads keep listening, learning and developing physically I would expect 2017-18 to be the season when they are challenging to make an impact.

I think it is essential any club has a youth system and enables them to bring through the likes of Lockyer, Clarke, Lines, Harrison. Along the way we will also unearth players like Macey, Wilson and Santos that will be sold to other clubs generating revenue. We need to give these home grown players time and support, whilst you will get some exceptions most young pros don't really start making an impact until they are circa 21, the likes of Broom who looked sharp in preseason and full of promise is 19, some managers would give him a go now I think Darrell more cautious with the youngsters. With many more reserve games this year theses players will get more game time but I agree some will benefit from going out on loan and playing more competitive football where points are at stake. Of the current crop Broom (19), Malpas (18) and Kilgour (18) look promising, we saw a lot of Broom and Kilgour preseason but unfortunately Malpas got injured and required surgery after the Weston game, hopefully he will be back soon. I thought Greenslade (20) also had a decent preseason but would suggest at 20 he now needs to get out on loan to a National Premier league level club. The big mystery to me is Lucas (21) he was previously highly rated, did well out on loan but didn't feature much at all pre season and when he did he looked a shadow of himself.

DC and his staff work with the squad day in day out, they clearly have confidence in the players and believe some have the capability to step up, equally they will know the areas they want to strength or provide additional cover/confidence I have every faith and confidence in them and and happy to trust their judgement, they have earnt that

I never have a problem with Steve's comments, I always find his posts/match reports balanced and fair but in this instance I couldn't disagree more with some of the views and sentiments. That's the beauty of our game and the purpose of a forum.
I have no problem whatsoever with constructive criticism I want to strive to improve as I am sure everybody does but the bit about Kilgour and Greenslade was IMO unfair and unnecessarily negative.
Onwards and upward.

I always try to be balanced and also to respect everyone's opinion after all that is the purpose of a forum but I must say that IMO much on this thread is a dramatic overreaction to yesterday's game. It was a preseason friendly against a strong but not full strength Swansea, never the less as pointed out at least one player was a £23m signing. From our side we didn't perform but we have a few injuries that sensibly we don't want to risk at this stage, we fielded a particularly weak starting 11 but as we saw things improved in the second half. I have no doubt a few of the squad will not be regular starters but feel most deserve a chance. If we had a squad of 28 guaranteed starters what sort of team spirit and balance would we have in the squad. DC has said that he wants to bring in 2/3 more quality additions, that takes time, IMO our priorities should be a Goalkeeper, a Centre Half and a strong experienced striker then we are looking in decent shape. If anyone reads my historical posts you will read I always champion our young players development, I take no greater pleasure than seeing players (ideally local) coming through the academy system and eventually making a positive contribution, I think the fans relate to that and the players relate to the club so it saddens me to hear people say the likes of Kilgour and Greenslade should have been released to create funds for more signings, both of these lads have potential they are just 18 and 20 respectively, both have been with the club for 10+ years, they will earn c.£150 week so won't break the bank and the reality is both will spend the majority of the year out on loan (continuing their development) so most if not all of their wages will be covered. It would be a very sad day if our club were to release all promising youth/junior pro's to fund a senior signing and IMO that is not a sustainable model for our club and is not what we should be about.
