Nigel Pierre. Though we actually did sign him apparently we shouldn't have. Played one game and returned to Trinidad

JCH cost nothing and kept us up and could possibly have got us promoted had Coughlan stayed. The club have reportedly banked 1.25m plus clauses, hopefully sell-ons that could bring in lots more if he is sold on for silly money. Peterborough are taking a gamble and if as I hope, it works out everybody wins. I can't blame JCH for wanting to progress and I wish him every success.

What were the pasties like back then? Can't remember if they had any hot food then. KitKat and a cup of Bovril was as good as it got.

Alfie's perfectly styled hair as he rose majestically to head in the winner, Football specials from Hartcliffe, Rovers playing in all blue shirts, One shilling and six to get in, Half time post after the game. Queueing to get a green un if we won.

I think he was just the wrong person at the time. I think he might have worked out in the conference where his kick ass style may have worked on a totally dispirited and desperate club as we were then. From what I've heard he was not popular at Torquay despite his success there. I think he may have got away with his abrasive style at a novelty seaside club, but it was never going to work here then. I think he's found his level now as a technical advisor which doesn't involve him managing players. I don't think he can have any complaints about his time with us maybe he wasn't the worst we've had, but he's probably one of the most despised.

Signed some good players for us, and we were a basket case on and off the pitch. Underated by most, I think player power saw him off before the fans started to get on his back. I liked him. Not even in my top 5 worse Rovers managers. Hardly a recommendation we've had more than our fair share of crap managers even since Buckle.

Thought he was a good squad player never got to be first choice, but looked useful when called on. I think this could be a good move for him. Good luck Gav.

GC had stayed and assumed very good chance of promotion (and who knows re ownership/training ground). Or Current situation? For me even if we had gone up last year there possibly wouldn't be the positivity and complete change in how we conduct ourselves off the pitch..... No brainer I'd take where we are now no question. If he had stayed which I think would have been increasingly unlikely the closer we got to promotion, having shown no hesitation in jumping ship at the first opportunity. Though I think he could well have got us promoted he proved himself to be untrustworthy and we are well rid imo. The current situation is promising with more off field and on field activity than I can remember pre season. Question marks remain over the manager and if I'm honest I'm not yet convinced. However the fact he's still here after such a poor run shows he believes and I'm happy to go along with it atm. So in answer to the original question I would definitely choose the current situation

Ben obviousely has self belief otherwise he would not still be here and he doesn't think he needs an assistant with managerial experience. He clearly has his own vision of what he want's to build at rovers and wants an assistant rather than a mentor. These guys have worked in some top clubs they are young and enthusiastic and bring fresh ideas. This club has always been willing to gamble on managers and step into the unknown it's what clubs like ours have to do, The great thing is when they defy the odds and produce something special. Who's to say this won't happen with these guys?

Think the new chap's Grandad was Sgt Wilson in Dad's Army? Nope, his name was John Le Mesurier. Shame I could picture him in the dug out saying "Do you think that's wise".

Kevin Maher was a first team coach not assistant manager. As regards the appointment, when Danny Cowley and his brother took over at Lincoln they were unknown quantities, inexperienced and brought a certain philosophy with them. Garner is doing exactly the same and he’s going to do it now with his team, his players and his methods. IMO it has a similar feel about it to the beginning of DCs reign, terrible starts, unknown inexperienced manager and look where that got us. Give it a chance I’ll say. More or less my exact thoughts I thought of the Cowley brothers when this was announced.

I'm exited by this appointment and the pairing of two young largely unknown and untested coaches. I don't know if it will work in fact I think it's a huge gamble, but it is something different . If this comes off it will be typical rovers and if it fails it will also be typical rovers.

DC was the greatest manager this club has had to date in my oppinion. He was far from hopeless in league 1, but I think he had reached the end of the line when he left .Though I think like us he became frustrated with the lack of progress off the pitch. Had we not lost Taylor I am sure we would have reached the playoffs. Although having said that had Coughlan stayed I think we would have been promoted this season, but that's for another debate.

Cheers for doing that AF, it will be useful resource for going back to look at matches from previous seasons and see what the opinions were at that time. I've ran a quick search and moved 6/7 threads over to that section. If anyone finds any more old match day threads on this board send me a PM and I'll move them across. Bollox. What did you do, just search for 'match day'? One of the issues I had was that people went out of their way (including myself) to name their match day threads amusing titles, which everyone knew what they meant on the day, but it made it much harder to find when you were after a specific match months afterwards. I am considering going through and giving all the threads boring, informative titles. I think you desperately need a hobby.

What is the point in putting a thread on here with a negative and missleading title. If it's someone's idea of a joke I'm struggling with the humour That’s Supporters/Presidents club members for you dear chap. The axe is well and truly stuck in the grinder. Indeed that grinder must be working flat out, Though I see you still get time to sharpen yours
