As a Pompey fan we were really pleased with our league1 place at the end of the season.
After Paul Cook left for Wigan we had to cancel our entire preseason friendlies and hastily arrange others.
Kenny Jackett came in and had to work with another man’s team. Some of which including the talismanic Gary Roberts and all the backroom had left with PC.
Finishing 8th was a considerable achievement.
Pitman although injured for a third of the season could not stop scoring and was KJ’s first signing.
He gave all the players their chance including K Bennett.
Kyle was brilliant one moment and fire the next. There is no doubting his skill but faced with a powerful opponent could be found wanting in the strength area. His ability to cross and more importantly release the pass at the right time was really annoying.
It was right for him to move on and you got a great player on his day and an invisible one in an off day.
I wished him well and still do.
He is a great joker and laugh around a training ground to boot.
Certainly there was no ‘we give you Bennett, we get Brown’ thought process.
Kyle sorted his own transfer out and chose you.
We were unlucky with injuries last year like no other year I can remember.
We never replaced Doyle in midfield and lost Rose to a broken leg. That left two youth players to hold the line. They have come on in leaps because of it.
We lost not one but two left backs including potentially the best in the division albeit it a loan in the very first game!
Another youth player stepped up.
Our club nowadays does it’s business behind closed doors preferring to announce an arrival when it’s done unlike the bad old days where the dirty washing was done in public.
Our club has one of if not the best training ground in the league. An infrastructure that’s being strengthened all the time and owners who have a vision.
Everything is being overhauled. Gone is the sondico kit and shop owners. In come Nike and our own pfc owned outlets. A revamped fratton or a new ground is in the offing and we have an academy producing kids at a frightening pace. It’s a good time to join Pompey, a cub definitely on the rise again.
Kenny needs a left back and we need a reliable injury free man who wants to be better and embrace the dizzy heights.
Brown we are told could be that man. I’ve read your thread on him and consider the comments in line with our ask!
We are a league 1 side but we already have a young vibrant team we’ve added to already in the close season.
I hope the lad joins and sees what he wants in the future with us.
I look forward to this years meetings with you and although you never really turn up at fratton your fans always do.
Regards
Pompey fan
Good post to read other fans viewpoint. You are right about us not turning up at Fratton. I don't know why but we seem to save our worst performances for you!!! If Browner does sign for you then you will have an excellent player. Bennett has been good for us so far but I see what you mean about being a bit 'lightweight'. His first couple of games he certainly was (very skilful though) and then I reckon DC had a word in his ear because he came out like a man on a mission. Hope he keeps it up. Looking forward to coming to Fratton park next season (my boy is at Pompey Uni so good excuse to go there...no permission needed from her indoors!!)
