My first away game, Rovers v Brighton 8-2 to the Gas!! V the Sh!te when Punky scored two (I think). Sat next to the goal taking photos and got pelted with coins for cheering when he scored Browner's game v Dagenam. I cried that day!

It could one of two ways with Stefan. He will either sulk and basically just give up and move on at the first opportunity or he will play like he did on the first game he played for us and really silence the knockers with goals and skill. I know which one I would like it to be but I fear I could be wrong!!

What a rare breed that man is. So passionate, so enthusiastic, so Rovers. Shame we can't use him as a team motivator.

You were obviously at the game yesterday? He’s not a supporter with comments like that,if you want the best out of your players you get behind them. So true. Harrison used to get stick for being lazy and playing like he couldn't give a damn and DC turned him around (obviously Ipswich don't have the same touch!). It isn't only Payne who isn't firing on all cylinders - that applies to all our strikers and attacking mid-fielders- but DC knows that, the players know it and I don't believe they go onto the pitch with a 'couldn't care less' attitude. I am sure they want to win as much as we want them to. Why play football unless you want to win? These players aren't on 'Rooney' wages and know that if they don't do well they will be out and trying to find a job with good money when you've been kicked out of a Div 1 is not going to be easy. As stated here, we need to get behind the players and support them. A few on here use the analogy of their work place and how they would react or be treated but how would they feel if they weren't doing very well, despite their best efforts, and everyone started having a go? Would they respond better to a few kind, supportive words? Of course they would. We are here to support whoever wears the quartered shirts so COYB. UTG

Why does everyone think they are experts? I watch F1 but I wouldn't dream of saying to Hamilton 'You left that gear change too late there' or to the Ferrari team 'You are rubbish, that tyre change took 2.8 seconds. If I were doing it I would have it down to 2.4!'. How many people on this forum actually run a Div 1 or Div2 club? Do you seriously believe that DC and MS sit around and pick names from a hat to decide who plays and where (and yes, I can see the replies from some of you now saying 'I am sure that's what they do!!'). They are professionals - and bloody good ones- who pick a team and formation that they think will win the game. Of course it doesn't always work out but if it was that easy then there would be people from this forum running league teams! Yes we are entitled to our opinions but to post on here like you know far better than top professionals is ...well.....just plain rude! Respect the people, respect their professionalism and respect their decisions.

Being a Gashead is like being married. 'For better, for worse, in sickness and in health ....etc.......till DEATH do we part!!!! Yes, it's not going very well at the moment but NOBODY is stuffing us. The second half today showed us that we have some good players. Nicholls WILL score and soon! Ride the storm, get behind the team and keep supporting them. COYB UTG

This goes to show how difficult a job DC has. Everyone has a different opinion (obviously certain players appear in just about everyones list) but the amount of slagging off DC gets for his team selection and yet none of us can agree either! And when you consider that he is a professional who has all the facts, medical sheets, watches them train, talks to them etc. etc. means that instead of slagging him off maybe we should be more understanding of just how difficult his job is. Don't get me wrong, we all should have our opinions and express our frustrations when DC plans don't quite work but it is the amount of venom aimed towards him we should curtail (yes, this only applies to a few posters) and be more sympathetic to his selection dilemma.

Good post. I was thinking only this morning that a larger than normal vocal group are beginning to turn us into Teds. The last couple of seasons we have relished the abuse given to The Squeaky One when their season was beginning to fall apart.....and now, here we are doing exactly the same to our manager. Yes, things aren't going the way we would like them to at the moment but I trust DC to get us out of this mess. We all speculate about which players we think should play each week but none of us has access to their medical records, their mental state, the oppositions strength or weakness...that is the job of a Manager. Okay, so maybe DC doesn't always get it right but he is the first to admit it. I thought the team played really well on Saturday. Yes, we have an issue with getting the ball in the net but that is all about confidence, fortune, the strength of the oppositions defence etc. I have faith in the team and I genuinely believe they will turn it around before the end of the season. As for all the talk about take-overs etc. NONE of us has any real idea. Yes, there are some that are so-called 'In the know' but we never see any evidence only the usual ' I heard it from a very reliable source....' etc. I am sure a lot of the people believe it because they read about it in the Evil Post or on BBC Bristol (City). The problem there is that the modern reporter is just lazy. They read this forum and report it as news, our fans read it as news and repeat it on here .....and so the circle of confusion goes on. It is pointless worrying about who, if anybody, is buying us out or if we are getting a new stadium. Whatever will happen will happen and there is nothing we can do about it. The Mem is like an old coat - it has seen better days but it is comfortable and it fits us. Yes soon it will wear out and need replacing but let others worry about that. Our concern is to support our team and that includes the manager (the clue is in the word 'supporter'!). I am not a happy clapper and I would love us to be at the top of the table but it is not to be.....yet. Let's get behind the team with scarves raised not daggers in the back. We are better than 'them down the road' so let's not give them the satisfaction of watching us self destruct. COYB UTG

People are commenting that DC only played two of the new signings and that he should stick to last seasons faithfuls but look at this forum just before the Transfer date closed. It was ballistic with moaners saying that we hadn't signed enough players, that we needed this or that etc. Maybe DC was just trying to make us happy that at least he had signed someone! Whatever DC does I trust his professional ability and if it hasn't worked it is probably more to do with the players attitude - and seeing how he turned round Harrisons bad attitude I am sure he can do the same with the current squad. As for your report Stevek 192....you were obviously at the same match I was at. Spot on report. BZ!

Was he referring to the keeper. Very odd that he loans a keeper out (our best keeper) and then has to loan one in?? There must be more to the story about Slocombe than we get to hear about. Let's hope Bonham does well for us.

Sorry to all the Craig disparagers but it is completely wrong to blame Lockyer or Craig for any of the goals tonight. The first was down to James Clarke being roasted by the best player on the pitch and Smith possibly not doing as well as he might have. The second was just rank bad goalkeeping in letting a soft shot squirm under him. The third was allowing a cross to come in unchallenged (again) and then Smith getting in front of Broadbent. We played some really good stuff tonight, had more possession and created more chances than they did. However, we clearly can't defend (and that's as a team rather than one or two individuals) and we can't score goals. I hope that DC plays Bonham on Saturday too, as he must be better than Smith. But here's the uncomfortable truth. Gasheads are not exactly performing either at the moment. Singing "how sh*t must you be, we've scored a goal" is an example of crap support and does NOTHING to help a side clearly struggling for confidence. Night. Spot on!! I also watched Craig and when QPR sent a high ball up front he didn't just head it back (usually these headers just go straight back to the opposition ) he killed the ball and either nodded it sideways to another defender or controlled it himself and passed it out. I personally thought he was one of our better players last night.

JC's problem is lack of pace but although not his best game last night I still believe he can do a job for us. Our problem is injuries at the moment. Partington, Sinclair, Holmes-Dennis, Sercombe......all game changers or people who can bind the team together (Sinclair). Through necessity we are playing people out of position but hopefully we can get everyone fit and turn it around in the near future. What we don't need is the foul mouthed belters hurling abuse at Smith (within earshot of him) who I know is not the best but all footballers work on confidence. The guy shouting in front of me is entitled to his opinion except for the fact that once you removed the swear words from his tirade there wasn't enough of the English language left to make an opinion. Being a supporter is like a marriage...for better or for worse, etc. Let's get behind the team not slag them off. Fortunately 99% of the fans did last night. Yes we moan when it goes wrong or a shot misses but the support was superb last night. Belters, if you really don't like what you see.....don't look at it. DC hasn't let us down before and he is not about to now. He could see what we could see and will do everything in his power to turn it around. COYB UTG.
