Nil shots on target!!!!!!!! ...and only one shot so far, and that took 30 odd minutes to come. They have had 7, 3 on target. We are at home BG against a team out of form FFS!

Good to have your view on the Ogogo red Reason. Just makes the whole thing an act of stupidity - take the foul and fall over - we get a free kick their player gets a yellow, we've still got 11 on the pitch. Our players have got to sort this side of the game out.

All I can think is that he flicked his leg at the player and the speed of it coupled with the distance and angle of the camera makes it hard to spot. The Ref certainly reacted quickly so must have seen something. As I said before Ogogo should be cleverer and either just carry on as he had beaten the player, or gone down under the barge from him and won a free kick.

We all know that BG needs to recruit players with the right qualities to play his way. It is painful seeing many of our current squad as they struggle in his formation and tactics. Clearly different players are required in many parts of the team.
It seems we are in for a disappointing end to the season with poor results along the way - but BG is using it as a test period for his methods. We are, probably, already safe from relegation so he does effectively have a free hit to see if our players can adapt. Then he has the Summer to recruit for his model. Short term pain (and embarrassment probably) for longer term gain.
It would be nice to think it is all part of a longer term strategy. Perhaps the board saw GC's departure as a chance to implement a new style that would work better if we were to go up, and thought we still had a chance of getting there this season - but with a way of playing more suited to the higher division.
Clearly it hasn't yet worked and I fear that with our facilities and budget BG will be unable to attract/afford players of the type and calibre required to play his way successfully. We could end up with younger cheaper players that are potentially future stars, but won't be strong enough. We will be, effectively, a Championship/lower Premier League U23 side - pretty to watch but losing most weeks. I'm not sure he will be able, or wants, to recruit a blend of youth and experience that most clubs at this level need. He will also have the problem of a losing habit that could carry over to a new season.
Assuming he doesn't walk away, or get sacked, at the end of this season then his Summer recruitment is critical, as is the start we make next season. If we start off as we are doing now, then come October/November we will be looking for another GC type boss to get us out of the mire.

There number 7 McGuire I think is a cheat. He got leaned of Aggogo then when he got pushed off he went down like a sack of spuds. We need to give him a good reception at the Mem That's how I see it, and just posted to that effect on the Match thread. Ogogo had him beaten. The Sunderland player was stumbling and trying to impede Abu, he must learn to be clever like them - go down and win the free kick instead of swinging an arm to shrug the player off (if that is what he did).

Well, I've watched the sending off a few times on the highlights above and the Sunderland player leans into Ogogo, but I can't see what he does to get sent off - although he doesn't seem surprised at the card? It wasn’t the 50/50 challenge, that wasn’t a foul either way it was the way Abu turned to him off the ball and kicked him. Ogogo was rightly sent off , stupid thing to do but I wouldn’t see a problem in suspending their player for going down holding his head either. One ban for kicking out and another for their blatant play acting and unsporting conduct . I can't see in the highlights Ogogo turning and kicking? He comes back toward the player that is down but the card is already being shown. Perhaps he swings his arm as he is trying to shrug off and get past the other player and that is what the card was for? It seems that he had the Sunderland player beaten, and if anything that player is trying to impede Ogogo. If he/we were as 'clever' as the opposition, perhaps Ogogo should have gone down - we would have had a free kick and the Sunderland player would, possibly, have got a yellow. Instead their player seems to feign injury resulting in the red. That's how I see it on the highlights. If there was an arm swung then I can't see an appeal being successful. Ogogo needs to learn - be fouled, get the free kick, and don't react. This really wound me up last night, thankfully a few Armagnac's and a good night's sleep has calmed me down a bit.

I thought it was better today Sam despite the score, but I'm not sure if it will work long term. Ben does seem to have an edge about him, he won't want to fail. What concerns me is that we are becoming a college for up and coming managers and players. Sooner rather than later we need to get results. If it's all about evolution we may as well wait five years until we buy another season ticket. It works both ways. Agreed I’m not interested in seeing us as a nursery for premier league clubs young players. I want to see us picking up as many wins as defeats in close season or it’s bye Ben it didn’t work and on to another manager for next season. I don’t see the point in sacking him now though , if we did we might jump the gun and throw away something that might have been brilliant given time. We have that rare commodity in football right now of having the time to see what happens and there’s so much football to be played we’ll have a much better idea come April - May. It’s been probably the strangest season in my years supporting the Gas. Yes, as I posted on page 14, I don't want us to be a 'composite' Championship/Premier League U23 side that plays some pretty stuff but loses many more than not

Our goal ratio under BG is simply not good enough.JCH on his own up front and even his goals have dried up.Sorry.Not optimistic.Only one league win and the poorest strike rate in our history I should think. JCH was brilliant alongside Tom Nichols. The only time In his career that he’s been prolific. When we put TN up for sale I said it was a massive mistake and we should play JCH and Nichols up front together for the rest of the season because over the last 12 months they had been a good partnership and our form was the second best in league 1 over that 12 month period and we were still in or around the top 6 at that point. I obviously got shot down on here for saying this but perhaps now more can see it. It wasn’t broken it didn’t need fixing. I can understand Garner wanting us to play through more rather than going so direct , he’s got his own philosophy fair enough but I feel we could have done that with Johnson and Nichols up front and made it work just as well as it was working possibly even better. None of this is hindsight I’ve been saying it for months and to be honest I’m surprised Garner having “ seen all our matches “ couldn’t see it. I’m not saying Garner won’t work long term but he’s torn up the three things that made us tick and punch well above our weight ( in my opinion we’ve got a mid to lower table possible relegation squad ) These things are. 1. 3-5-2 - all our defenders / wingbacks are more comfortable playing in this formation than 4-3-3 2. Playing direct - we are much more suited to playing direct as we have no calm ball players in the squad , particulary the midfield which is where the best patient passing sides tend to dominate, to play a more patient approach. 3. Taking JCHs partner away and sending him on loan to a league 2 club when they clearly had a good partnership that were consistently creating chances for the team and we were on a 12 month run of fantastic form and looking good for a top 6 finish. All of our strengths have been taken away - and now we’re playing to our weaknesses. I do however think that Garner should be given to the end of the season to get us winning football matches and the reasons for that - because he’s a well respected coach in the game , he’s been given a transfer window and he made some interesting changes in that window , he had a bad start because of family issues- and were not in any danger of getting relegated. If things haven’t improved by the end of the season then it’ll be put down to a season of two half’s and a mistake by our board in giving a young coach our managers job when what we needed was a strong head in charge who had leadership skills when there was absolute zero leadership from board and ownership level. If it’s the latter then We can then have a pre season and transfer window with a new manager and go again next season. To be honest though I think having a Coughlan type manager is the way forward because our board and owner are so far from being leaders at our club what we really need is a tough leader in management of the team because without that our club is a rudderless ship drifting to who knows where. Possibly relegation. I agree with much of this. Under BG, and with our facilities and budget, my fear is that we are unable to attract/afford players of the type and calibre required to play the BG way successfully. We will end up with younger cheaper players that are potentially future stars, but won't be strong enough. We could end up being, effectively, a Championship/lower Premier League U23 side - pretty to watch but losing most weeks.

Love to see that red card again decision. Their player seemed to run into Ogogo and made the most of it. To be honest, they were theatrical all over the pitch, that putting it nicely. f**king cheats. Just got back to hotel, it was perishing cold and unbelievable wind, anyway there player tripped Bas, and he turned and kicked there player, ref had no choice. He should have stopped the game when our 2 collided and 1 had head injury. Trainer came on pitch while game still going it was that bad. Then ref walked over to trainer had an argument and booked him, possibly for encroachment. It does sound like they have become a nasty 'professional' unit, however Ogogo only has himself to blame by the sound of it, and their 'shithousery' to quote their forum worked. Ogogo should be fined the maximum as he effectively ensured we lost that game today, and has put the squad under pressure for the next three games. Our players have to be clever enough not to react

A quick scan of the Sunderland Forum seems to suggest Ozturk provoked Ogogo, and they are pleased that they are getting better at Shithousery! Sums them up

I have seen the replay a few times back and don’t recall any kick out at all. If there was a little something, it makes it all the more laughable as McGuire went down clutching his face. Farcical. Is it available to see somewhere?

If Ogogo did kick out then it was just plain naïve stupidity. I'm sure that Maguire or Ozturk or whichever Sunderland player it was would know how our midfield can be wound up and, it seems, succeeded. I know this is without seeing/knowing all the facts, but if it is proven that he lashed out after being wound up - then he has to grow up. It is an unfortunate part of the modern game, but teams do go out to wind up known hot heads on the opposition. Whether we are that street wise I don't know.

Was never a red bideford, if you were at the game today you would agree. Rad Bristol said they thought Abu kicked out after the original incident ? Well if he did, then he should be made to walk back to Bristol, and pay a huge fine. We might still have lost with 11, but going down to 10 made it very hard

Leahy not good enough in a back 4, Craig unable to play his prper role in a back 4. It’s a tough one to call because in a back 5 Craig is immense an ls clearly the captain of the defence but Garner likes four at the back. In a back four Craig isn’t half the player. With Davies injured most of the season and no recognised right back fit either it’s no wonder we’re struggling defensively. I’d go back to 352 until we’ve got the players for 4 at the back perhaps a back four of Hare Holmes Dennis Kilgour and harries would be brilliant who knows but at the moment it’s square pegs round holes. That's my point. Why does BG persevere with the formation when the players at his disposal aren't up to it?

So we get to play them again soon. So soon that Ogogo will still be serving his suspension! If its so obvious that it was not a sending off as most on here are claiming, it will obviously be turned over on appeal. I personally doubt it! Is there a clip of it available to see?

We have been cheated today, no question. McGuire is a disgrace. They should of had a penalty in the first half by the looks of it. Sounds like the ref has made poor decisions for both sides. Not sure about that. Even if it was a Pen which I don't think it was, that's nothing to a sending off and losing the player for three more games

Just proves our defence has little pace though if Charlie 'Pikey' Wyke can run through and score like that!! Nothing to do with the fact our 2 covering cvs were collapsed on the floor? I haven't seen it but the Twitter feed suggests they collided to allow Wyke to run through. I'm not sure the ref really could stop the game in that situation?
