We had games in the latter stages of Barton's reign where we played lovely football, 65% possession and NO SHOTS ON GOAL. If that's what you like, fair play to you. MT tried to get more speed out of them in his initial games and it seemed to work. Injuries have forced us to play players who don't seem to grasp the basics and hate the more physical side of the game. But we seem to have been like that for a while. MT is going have to work on the psychology as well as the physicality of our side as at the moment they seem physically and mentally fragile. Clearly MT just needs add shots on goal part. MT sounding defeated in post match interview, maybe he needs some psychology help as well. Perhaps he does Singup; perhaps he needs the [Bring back] Barton fans to get off his back wanting him sacked, as they are saying on social media, and get behind him and the team.... Perhaps they could also look at some of the issues facing him and the team at the moment like injuries and available staff. Bearing in mind also he has only just brought in his own backroom staff. Just a thought.

To me he knows what to do. Though we need to get to safety and close season to change the squad some. What he said is factual reality as we have losing to the bottom teams ever since we got back to League one. Barton thought he could Man City our way out of league 1 and we all got a little sucked into it. The trouble especially on a winter pitch they are not cut out for it. Add in the injuries and you have a recipe for disaster. Now if we are in this position this time next year I will agree with you, but miles too quick to be judgemental now. Remember it took Barton just under a year to get us moving in the right direction, plus a phone call to Newcastle. Don't really understand stand, we have won 2 in 8. The football we are playing now, is nothing like Joey's style of play. I would rather we did a pass the ball around, but move it with some speed. What I saw today was slow, get the ball to fall backs who kick the ball long and that was it. There is nothing wrong with the passing game, it doesn't work however if you have players who don't always want the ball. Watching Aguilera you can see he trains with Prem players, he gets himself into space and often chases back. There is a clip of Pep saying it, he doesn't mind players making mistakes, the worse thing is players who don't want the ball. I would applaud MT if he was on the touchline giving it some demanding more from the players, no good and probably far more damaging saying we are sh**e in a post match interview. We've had 3 managers in a short space of time, all 3 have managed some decent performances and some awful performances. The common factor is the players. It's the same issue again but without Collins to provide assists. Common factor? It's different players🤷♂️ We're an average side in an average division with a new manager. He is not motivating the players. It's OK to disagree. You blame the players, that's fine by me. I look at the manager because it's 8 or 9 of them below par which is a strong signal. That game today was no different to when we lost at Accrington last season, and Barton spent the last 20 minutes of the game sulking. For the last few seasons we have had nice tippy tappy footballers who play well against good footballing sides. But as MT can see we can't raise our against against physical, horrible sides. It was the same last season as this. They seem to hate the physicality and back off from getting stuck in. They can't play against sides that use nous rather than skill. They are literally bullied off the park. Injuries to Finlay and others and Martin not playing hasn't helped. We need to get some solid, fearless players who aren't afraid to get stuck in and lead from the front against horrible sides. That's the way it has to be done sadly in this League.

We and Matt are learning so much about this squad of players. Many have been given a chance today to impress and just maybe not taken their opportunity. We have some talent not available today and when they are I’m sure we play better. Time for cool heads, for sure, but today has not been a performance we need to see, whatever the final result. I get the feeling that MT isn't going to get the time Barton had from the fans. Many Barton fans want him gone already. Rovers fans have certainly changed.

I think like a lot of things in life, the fall out after, an inquest etc, people say their bit, it’s been made clear we need Chris Martin and he’d have made a big difference last night by the manager. He is 💯 signing and staying. I think the said has been said Conteh, we are trying to salvage it. Collins has interest, he has had for the last 2 weeks, I’d take £250k for him but we are requesting £1 million stuff. Marquis might be agent talk but Crawley, Wimbledon, MK, Gills, all going for the play offs, we brought in Easter to help get us out of the Conference……….. Collins has 100% had interest from Wrexham, I know this as a personal associate of mine is close with Parkinson. A surprise leave might be Connor Taylor! I was speaking to a Championship assistant manager who recently lost his job and he said Taylor is highly regarded by many managerial teams at that level.

Just got back (staying in Buxton) and most of my frustration is with their time wasting and with Woods for his reaction. Felt we were in the ascendency and that’s why they tried to take the momentum out of the game by feigning injuries. But had woods stayed on reckon we would have got something from the game or at least had a v good chance. It wasn’t terrible but it was another massive failure to handle sh**ty lower league shenanigans and an awful result. A sending off that could have a big impact on our season especially as he’s out for three games now. We had similar games last season, Accrington was a prime example, horrible game and we were battled off the park. That is what this league is like, always has been. We need players who can handle it. JB needs to learn that if we are to get out of this division.

Pathetic today… Totally bullied and intimidated on and off the ball - Burton are crap yet out battled, out manoeuvred and out thought us. Cox - 4 Awful distribution and shot stopping seems beyond him Gibbons -4 - Added little if anything Taylor -5 - At fault for one of the goals not his best game Grant - 5 Seemed unsure at times, poor on the ball Vale -4 Rinsed constantly in first half -looked better in his proper position second half Woods - 5 Not much positive and pathetic Red card Evans - 6 One of the few to have a go at least. Ward -4 Poor distribution added little. Martin -4 - Out bullied by the two central defenders . Collins -5 Assist for the goal and not much else. Sinclair - 4 chance to shine and blew it Of the subs - Only Finley worth a mention Ref -4 L1 Standard - crap decisions Burton 6 - Not good at all - hoodwinked the ref over and over - Can shoot though . Barton - 3 - Why chose Ward over Finley ? Tactics are one dimensional and never accepts the blame. Really have little confidence in him and wouldn’t be sad if he was moved on . Cheers Claremont The games I have seen where we come up against physical sides we always struggle. We definitely need someone like Millwall Tone who can stand up to them.

Remarkable, we upped our shooting rate and we scored! I'll take 2-0 any day of the week after I was worried we would falter!

Stevenage top, what is the world coming to? Possession football is great as long as you score! The owners would be better trying the markets to buy a goal.....

He makes it all up and his followers on the AF just lap it up, it's like a religious cult where nobody is ever brave enough to say "your talking c0bblers about cutting the wage bill in half". Might be why an admin left years a go! To many people waiting on the words of ex board members and spreading crap as truths. Untrue. Plenty of people challenge Swiss, myself included. We have some strong and robust debates. Some people just don't like being challenged and make up stuff on here about it.... oh! See what I did there.....

Just doing some rough maths on it all. Having done some sponsorship at the mem myself over the years I know what the rate card is for sponsoring stands etc. Brunel would have paid around £12k for the season sponsorship of the south stand and the Southwest stand would have been in the region of £7k per season. Given that the new stand will in effect be one stand, larger, with more of a presence I could imagine the cost of that would be about £20k per season. Add in the ticket cost per seat per match would give you a real base figure. 3500 seats x £22.00 x 23 games = £1.77m per season. Add in match day revenue from food and drink. I don't know what that figure is but if every seat spent £4.50 that's £15.7k x 23 = £362k. Then of course there is the possibility of blue ribband cup games should we progress to the big club rounds to add to the revenue. So a new stand will gross us around £2.2m per season, meaning that if it costs £5m to build it would be paid for after year 3 but we can spread the liability further for a cost of 3%, say 5 years and maximise the cash flow into the playing budget and gives us much greater flexibility fiscally. The pressure on the club though would be to perform on the pitch and make this a draw for fans, but given that we have put 12k in the stadium when we were in the conference then we should be able to do it in L1. Don't forget it is the marginal uplift you need to look at, i.e. the increase in numbers of people using the stand and their spend excluding current use. At current use we are losing c £2 - 3mln p.a. in total as a club. Pro rata that per seat... Any beneficial income to pay for the interest on the loan will be from additional usage and spend on top of what is already occurring.

The 3% interest rate quoted now looks on the low side? Were these figures what TG came up with to convince Wael to agree to the new stand being constructed, as they look like total pie in the sky, unless we're going to somehow sell out every home game next season, and also for the following 4 seasons. Your last few posts are very speculative! Rovers have taken out a loan to build a stand. We'd like to think the business has financial advisors and business rates?Posting links from the Times and guessing everything else helps whom? You would like to think so....

There's a lot more of this kind of attitude in football than in other sports. When Paula Radcliffe broke the marathon world record I don't recall many saying that it doesn't count because it's not as fast as the men's. Serena Williams and Steffi Graf weren't compared unfavourably with their male counterparts. Sadly there are so many dinosaurs still airing their views in football. It's still 30 years behind sport specifically and society in general in terms of social attitudes. It is the women that are the dinosaurs, other than the one or two women who I see at football, with perhaps one exception I don't know any women who like football. I managed to get my wife to watch two games with me one at Wembley the other the Millennium stadium , one of at the millennium stadium my daughter came along as she thought she could do some shopping at my expense, she was mistaken. My other daughter is stonewall anti football, she won 50.00 pounds on her savings bonds with out telling her I cashed in her winnings and bought a ticket to watch a game at the Mem and gave the rest of the winnings to her as a sweetner to go along , to this day she thinks her stupid Dad paid out 50 quid to get her to see a match, anyway she has never watched a game since. Most women think football is boring, rubbish, waste of energy etc, I didn't see the match on Sunday as my daughter came around. Unfortunately meany people get brainwashed by the BBC and probably think every women wants to play/ watch football and men are trying to stop them, usual crap and lies by the BBC. Why are women dinosaurs because they don't get football? Like the old farts of the FA most men have kept girls/women away from football in the past. That said I was introduced to the Gas by my girl cousin and she is definitely not a dinosaur! In general though football has never become part of their psyche. Even when it is it doesn't always translate into people getting involved. From a male perspective take my son. He has never enjoyed football, plays rugby, and hates the diving and play acting. It's not that being a rugby man he hates Wendyball. I tried to introduce him to it at a young age. He has just never liked it and was a better rugby player than footballer. The Gas have quite a number of very knowledgeable and trail blazing women supporters compared to a lot of Northern teams I've seen and women are becoming more interested over all. In most cases in the past they have never had the chance to be interested or even participate and the idea was that they never would be. Times have changed. Women are not dinosaurs [dinosaurs are extinct by the way] they are just being given the freedom to reach the heights they were banned and ostracised from previously. The world has moved on.

Hugo was kind enough to message me recently. I do miss him on here, he was part of the early morning gang of posters. He has to get up early for the loo - age takes its toll on the bladder (I know being a 'mature' gentleman) There's 'mature' and then there's 'mature' if you know what I mean! I mean you knock around with the good DrFaustus ...!

bristolroverssc.co.uk/update-from-the-chair/As it is more than a week now since I was appointed as the new Chair of the Supporters Club I thought it is time to update our members, and the fanbase in general, to what I have been up to. Firstly I would like to thank each and every one of you that has taken the time to wish me good luck in the role. There have been so many of you, especially at the Legends match last Sunday, and that reinforces my belief that there is still a lot of goodwill towards the Supporters Club and we will not let you down. I am delighted to report that offers of help have come from supporters who would like to join our Committee or have ideas to help us and I will be getting around to meeting and having a chat with each and every one of them. Some of these ideas would see us breaking new ground and taking on things that we haven’t before but as I said in my opening comments last week we have to modernise and appeal to ALL supporters of Bristol Rovers particularly the younger ones who we do not connect with at present. And we will. A first, very positive, meeting has been held with the board of the Football Club and I would like to thank Tom Gorringe, Martyn Starnes and Chris Gibson for meeting with me and for their openness and honesty. There is a real will from all parties to draw a line in the sand under the past and to move forward together for the benefit of us all. Projects that may require funding from us both now and in the future were discussed and I fully expect positive outcomes to follow. Our Supporters Club appointments to the board through our Share Scheme Agreement were also discussed, again in a positive way, and we should have a presence in the boardroom again soon, which benefits not just the Supporters Club but all supporters. Discussions have also taken place with the Community Trust and the Former Players Association with a view to the Supporters Club holding events jointly with both organisations. I would like to thank everyone involved in these discussions as I firmly believe that by working together we can achieve more. It is imperative that we offer our members more for their money than we did previously and give supporters a reason to join with us. This is a first step along that road. I would also like to announce that Jamie Howarth and Patricia Gardener have both agreed to join our Committee, the first of several appointments. Jamie is a vital part of our Match Day operations and Patricia has a wealth of experience in events planning and they will complement our existing Committee perfectly and I look forward to working with them both. It has been an extremely busy first week, one of the busiest I can remember, and I hope that the foundations are being laid for a successful future that will benefit us all. The door is always open to any supporter who wants to connect with us. #UTG David Thomas Chair, Bristol Rovers Supporters Club ---------------------- Good start...

The problem is that costs are now on the increase again with rising steel prices, labour shortages and the Gov encouraging more land use for housing. Time appears to have run out sadly.
