Not sure where best to post this: a video from our part of the stadium when we won the penalty shoot-out. Might be of interest to those who couldn't get there. link to video on Facebook

Dreadful pitch, but not as bad as Halifax, TBH, I didn't think the dreadful playing surface today made as much difference as I expected. (I was at both games). I think nerves got to our players today, stopping them from achieving their potential.

Point gained - we were dead and buried end of first half. Different team second half of second half, perhaps the team that should have started. One important difference to recent seasons - we didn't give up, hence the two late goals and possibility of a last-minute winner. A reality check for me - I came to the game thinking with our squad we would annihilate Halifax - how very wrong I was. It could have been 5 - 0 to them had things gone only very slightly differently. TBH, we were lucky today, and a draw flatters us. Full marks to the team for keeping on keeping on - and full marks to the 660+ fellow Gasheads who made the journey: that's really impressive!

Anyway, I always rated Harry Pell, and was sorry we didn't keep him. I think his last appearance for us was on the bench at Colchester (managed at the time by John Ward), final game of the season when we were relegated to League 2. He came on the pitch at the end, with all the squad, to applaud the gasheads who had travelled to support the team. I think, although it was virtually certain, it was only on the day that we were definitely relegated. Loads of fans in fancy dress, little bitterness, just making the best of a bad situation. Nowhere near as gut-wrenchingly awful as end of last season ....
would I have him back? Yes, if the price was right, but I doubt it would be .

Just back an hour ago. Great team performance tonight, in the circumstances. Definitely a point gained, not two lost. MOTM has to be McCrystal, stepping into the breach between the sticks. Sinclair outstanding again, getting everywhere, and once more mainly to good effect. Wrexham certainly a physical team. A great stadium, nice to visit one of those for a change. And run / owned by a university! UTG

Re Sainsbury's intentions, their interim results published yesterday morning here: www.investegate.co.uk/sainsbury-j--plc--sbry-/rns/interim-results/201411120700307745W/ state: "As part of adapting to our changing customer needs, we have reassessed our store pipeline and the potential to achieve an appropriate return on capital, which resulted in a decision that some sites will no longer be developed. A charge of £287 million has been recognised within administration expenses, including £255 million of property plant and equipment which is all land and buildings, £1 million of goodwill, and £31 million of onerous contract provisions." (my emphasis). Just speculation on my part, but I wonder if the specifically identified £31M refers to us? UTG!

Tranmere were very poor - we were the better team for most of the game. Can see why they're bottom of the League. Unless the new owner and manager can make some decisive changes they will be in the Conference next season. This was the best I've seen Rovers play for a long while, (although I live in Liverpool and don't get to that many games) a real team performance, good linking play, everything except the final product ... Sinclair was outstanding, getting everywhere and winning many tussles. The new loanee from Fulham looked impressive, reckon he can do a job for us, some excellent runs up the right wing and accurate crosses in. Always good to see the goalie come up in a Cup game! Up the Gas!!!

Made up with the win, Southport are not that good a team, but they kept going for 94 minutes, credit to them for that. Gas support was great, enjoyed the scousers in red who had taken drink watching the derby match earlier, they led the loudest chanting in the second h alf!
