We should build some sort of interactive attraction there, that will bring visitors in all year round. Bristol through the ages. Who wouldn’t want to go down a 16th Centuary Tavern and enjoy a tankard of Mead with some toothless patrons. Or visit a 1970’s Council house , and lounge on a brown velor sofa surrounded by a mind blowing array of patterns on the walls and floor. The heavy aroma of a smoking chip pan on the ring and an overflowing ashtray on the arm of a chair. Almost forgot the obligatory Elvis in a Catsuit print. No need to build a special attraction. All you need to do is pick any house in Knowle West, Hartcliffe or Withywood, ask to be allowed in and hey presto! Back in the 60’s and 70’s the moment you step over the threshold. The only thing you forgot to mention, in amongst all the appalling poverty, was the 55” plasma screen playing MTV non-stop. The half drunk can of Stella balanced on the arm of a chair with a fag burning in an ashtray and a packet of 20 No6 nearby, and of course a mountain of Macdonalds wrappers and Dominoes pizza boxes scattered around the kitchen. I believe it is also fairly common to see a knocked-off, unboxed but as yet unused Dyson vacuum cleaner, usually parked in a corner after the initial excitement of unpacking it had subsided. Tou will usually find yourself stumbling over several pairs if £100+ Nike trainers left lying around in the porch.

Fingers crossed it comes to fruition We’ve been told from the horses mouth it isn’t. If it was the St. Phillips site and if the deal has been completed, the developers won’t wait for us and will build something else. Loved the pun, by the way.

Assuming it was after the South Stand fire we moved to AG that was due to an electrical fault, so their were no real tensions. Ah! Nothing to do with the Bedminster Pyromanic Society then? I believe they were responsible for burning down the stand at Twerton after we beat them to the league title. The 3 heroes involved were stopped by the Police as they were returning to Knowle West and the officers were surprised to find them stinking of petrol and with empty cans in the boot. I believe substantial prison sentences resulted.

Nothing strange about this post or the poster. Please follow the forum rules and don't attack the poster. You may not agree but everyone has an opinion and a right to express it. Pretty sure we’ve been told not to bring politics onto this section and he’s attacking other posters on the general chat section calling them Marxists . But you crack on sunshine 🥱 I haven’t brought politics into this section. I’ve suggested this now pointless thread be moved to General Chat so the usual suspects can politicise it. You will notice I haven’t named any names so how am I attacking any individual? Finally, I would ask you to consider whether what I have written above was in the tiniest way tongue in cheek. Just a thought.

I've been on it too son lol yeah DC legend and Ollie of course he's Gas through and through but GC will be out of a job by Christmas but he will be at home so eh feck it. What really gets on my wick is Bristol C**y are on every radio advert and bus shelter promoting their brand and what is our response to it? If your a kid listening to the radio or catching a bus in this town then you would think there is one team in Bristol!!!!!! Come on Rovers let's fight Back and do a little advertising!!!!! What response can we reasonably make? They’re making the most of their advantages over us. They have a 28000 all seat stadium, we have a 12000 ish ground with a mish mash of stands, tents and with far more terrace than seats. We also have fairly unpleasant toilet facilities and we have to queue in the wind and rain if we want a tea or pasty. It appears that any hope of a new stadium for us has been put on the back burner. They are able to pay millions for one player whereas we shop in the free transfer and youth market. They are currently spending £28 million on their training ground and whilst it’s great we will finally have somewhere to call our own I don’t think it will match theirs. However, I couldn’t give a flying F for all their glitz and sparkle because they are a soulless commercial enterprise, the plaything of an absent owner hiding his wealth in the Channel Islands. There is obviously a genuine fear that we may one day truly challenge them for soccer supremacy, hence they feel the need, together with their sponsors, to indulge in such crass one-upmanship. I doubt the average Bristolian, who isn’t interested in football, takes the slightest notice in their childish games. Let’s not forget their last attempt at rubbing our noses in it with the Snake. That ended well for them, didn’t it. All that fuss and palaver and they ended up paying 300,000 for someone who hardly ever played, paid him, I believe circa £13k per week for 3 years then gave him away to Oxford. They are also followed by a fan base who are, once in Shithead mode, arrogant tosses who I’d rather not associate with. I’m glad there’s a river between us to keep them as far away as possible. Let’s hope that BG turns out to be the real deal, is given time and allowed to develop a young, exciting team who can bring back the good times. The signs are good, Wael is on board and here for the long term. I have a good feeling that the next 5 years are going to be an exciting time to be Gas.

Talk about the triumph of hope over expectation!
I believe it was only a week or so ago that Wael and Starnes told SamFrost that any stadium development, and it went no further than that, not even the suggestion of a possible location, had been put on ice.
It ain’t happening lads. Perhaps this thread could be moved to General Chat, where a small number of certain posters could engineer the lack of action as being down to Boris, The Conservative government and Brexit.
I believe General Chat should be re-named Marxist Corner.

I work a lot at Bristol Waste’s Avonmouth site, for the last few months they’ve been sorting out room for more offices on the site and generally changing the layout, perhaps moving everything onto 1 site? Is this what they call foreplay? IT is in Avonmouth.

I don't think we'll be paying Ozzie's full salary, probably a proportion. If we keep him next season hopefully he's been made fully aware his contract will be for the money we're contributing now. Surely the club has learned to cut its cloth after the salary disasters of the past.

So if you are trolling, what about the people who have left this thread/section due to it being 'toxic', like Eric/Nobby who left recently. Would you rather have a decent rounded discussion or continue being a sad troll putting people off posting? Socialists don’t do decent rounded debates though, do they? They gang up on anybody who disagree with them, make snide comments and generally try to destroy any argument they don’t like. They bombard everyone with links to left wing websites such as the Guardian, and defend people like Rayner and Starmer. Even when Rayner called a government minister Scum people come on here and defend her by saying the government are scum. Other idiots with their heads up their left wing arses made stupid comments like kids eat 3 square meals sitting in front of their 50” TV’s. I would ask why are people enjoying 50” TV’s and satellite stations and allowing their kids to go without food? No one seems to think people are responsible for themselves anymore. It’s OK have as many kids as you want, the state will pay for them Eric And Nobby were right, there’s no point in debating with your sort. Thankfully the Conservatives are in power and Brexit is happening.thank Gos Labour aren’t; can you imagine the country being run by Corbyn and his gang? Im going to do the same as Eric and Nobby and retire from these discussions. There’s no point because none of you lot will be happy until we have all been levelled down to the lowest common denominator under a Soviet era administration. Hopefully the silent majority, of which I am about to become with regards to this pathetic section of Gaschat is concerned will keep those lunatics out of power. I will now limit myself to footballing matters just like Eric has done. Goodnight all.

I see your Socialist Hero Angie Raynor has been lowering the tone in Parliament. Calling a government minister 'Scum' then refusing to retract it. What a wonderful person she would have been to have negotiating with the EU instead of David Frost and his team. I wonder how Barnier, Macron et al would have racted to such insults? Of course, we'll never know; because we all know she would have been too busy licking their arses and giving them everything they demanded. Labour? Unelectable thugs. any worse than Boris who gave an IRA sympathiser a peerage, suggesting falsely that Sir Keir Starmer was letting terrorists out on the streets THE fish are biting now!

What surprises me is how young most of that list were. Duke only 20?! Not just ages, most of our big sales were quite a while ago. Not sure it is coincidence that our money issues become so prominent when we stopped selling for big fees. Our money issues arose because not only did we stop selling players for big money, we also carried on paying stupid money to journeyman players, more than most other clubs in our league. Who can forget the immortal words of Geoff Hughes, who, in answer to the question “Why did you sign for Bristol Rovers”? said “Because they pay big money” I also recall Dave Penny stating his amazement at the money we were paying, and telling Higgs he was paying well over the odds. We didn’t seem to learn either, judging by the breath taking salary and contract length offered to Bennett. The big price tags for a few players only masked the problem. I’m heartened by BG’s comment that we are below last seasons budget, and look at the raw talent and potential at our club now. I have to say ‘well done’ to Wael, the manager and our recruitment team.

Gotta love him, he gives all the stats except one. Who put the ball in the back of the net the most Haha the blokes talking crap. I mean that might have been their best performance for a longlong time I don’t know but if it was then they’re in for a tough season I didn’t think they were that great at all. It looked like two very average teams to me and it could have been a draw or a goal one way and we scored it and won. I don’t think they dominated at all they were marginally the better side first half and us the second half until the last 15 minutes where they looked dead on their feet and made mistake after mistake and we controlled the game until the end quite comfortably. Perhaps he ought to have paused and considered that the reason his team had so much possession is because we went there to play football and not shut up shop and park the bus which is the traditional tactic of the away side.

I think we're all aware the value of the pound dropped. You however state in another post that after 4 years it still hasn't recovered, well the the pound still hasn't recovered to level it was prior to December 30th 2008 when it recorded its lowest ever value at £1.02. In fact I recall at one point getting less than a euro to the pound around that time. I would say the pound was on the road to recovery as in February this year, just prior to the coronavirus outbreak, the pound was at a post Brexit high of €1.2046. I am guessing this is the post that Stuart refers. This is true, but the point is disingenuous. Given the British economy's exposure to the financial markets, the degree to which our banks were exposed to the financial collapse, it is hardly surprising our currency declined in value to the degree that it did by the end of 2008. Whilst most economies were exposed we were arguably the most so. Subsequent fiscal policy thereafter, shall we call that austerity? Suppressed our recovery which, as a result, caused our borrowing to nearly double as a % of GDP. By 2016 our economy had stabilised, real incomes nearly back to 2008 levels. As a result the £ appeared to reset at a new range of between circa £1.1 to £1.2, and an equivalent value to the USD. Then we, I mean you lot did, voted to leave. The value dropped again as a result. This cost the poorest in our communities the most as imported oil (priced in USD) rose by the same % and imported foodstuffs from Europe, similarly. The difference between 2008 and 2016 was that 2008 was not something we caused, but 2016 was something you lot chose to impose on the rest of us. Thanks You can shop around for excuses, you can ignore the facts. But you did this. I see your Socialist Hero Angie Raynor has been lowering the tone in Parliament. Calling a government minister 'Scum' then refusing to retract it. What a wonderful person she would have been to have negotiating with the EU instead of David Frost and his team. I think you missed off Quisling Communists from that definition 😀 Hi Stuart Just got back. Have any of the usual suspects actually quoted any factual information to justify their comments? No? Ah right. Stated what I've witnessed over 40 years of working in the community but of course it's not referenced in The Guardian so it doesn't count.

Seems to me BG is building a squad and a team from that squad which is made up of young men eager to learn and eager to improve and be the best they can be. They seem to be a close knit bunch with a few older heads to help and advise.
I think there is more to come and next season could be amazing. Of course some will move on but it's hoped BG and the team can identify and get good young players in before the departures. Let's hope we can keep hold of Garner for a decent amount of time as well.

Stuart. What are your views on poverty. Do you see children wandering the streets, malnourished, black with soot from the chimneys and shoeless in the winter? He`s not Stuart 1874. Exactly. Kids get depressed if they're not wearing the latest £150 Nike trainers. theres no poverty in this country. That's why you've got half the 3rd world paddling across the channel to get here, even from the EU haven. Why? Because they want to milk the benefits and get free housing, healthcare and medical treatment. poverty my arse.

If Eric is still about, I would like to throw another 'question' his way and even compare it to the covid situation We are seeing the Govt. Quibble over £5m quid (peanuts in the grand scheme of thing) with Greater Manchester. If we leave on WTO, what are the Govt. Going to do when the farmers or the fisherman etc come knocking for financial support (especially as the Govt. Have already voted to undercut agriculture?) As someone else put it, Boris cant even negotiate with Manchester You could flip it and say Andy Burnham is is arguing over peanuts. You could also say that Andy Burnham the Labour mayor of Greater Manchester is incapable of negotiating with the Government. Exactly. Burnhams nothing more than a failed 2 bit politician playing party politics and jeopardising the health of the people of Gtr Manchester.
