I wouldn't mind us getting the 23-year-old former Germany U16/U18/U19 international striker Patrick Schmidt over for a trial. He scored 22 goals in 35 appearances for fourth tier side Saarbrücken (average attendance 2,790) during 16/17. Tall, quick, strong , good finisher. He has a total career record of 58 goals in 100 appearances.

Thanks pirate, you're bringing up some good players. I like your list of keepers perhaps one if them this week. I am a bit surprised we've not had any news this week but I think that is probably a sign that DC is hoping for better quality rather than just quantity. 2 keepers, 2 strikers, a CH and perhaps a winger. Not too worried about people throwing numbers of players back at DC, whatever he said will have been a bit tongue in cheek imo. Time to enjoy the tennis and cricket I think! UTG!

Good footage of both Alexis André Jr and Thom Jonkerman here against a Manchester City academy side. Alexis plays the first half and Thom the second.

Patrick Schmidt in action here during 15/16 for his previous club Homburg. Could do well in England with his attributes.

Possibly slightly optimistic and hopeful , but does anyone think Fraizer Campbell would drop to League One? I reckon he has the potential to make a James Vaughan type of impact at this level. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraizer_Campbell

You're probably right. I suppose it doesn't hurt to make an enquiry though. Edit: Just read somewhere he was on 35k a week at Palace, so unless he was prepared to take a 90% wage cut to come here, we can safely rule that one out.

SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has expressed his delight at being reunited with Michael Turner. And Brown is pleased to be taking the 33-year-old to Spain for Blues' pre-season preparations. "We’ve agreed a deal in principle with Michael that will hopefully be signed at the end of this trip," said Brown. www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/15382680.Brown_delighted_with_Turner_reunion_at_Blues/Cracking signing for this level if they get that one signed and sealed.

Southend getting Michael Kightly Makes sense, he was a fan favourite there in the past and is from the area. It is another very good signing for this level if it happens. Fair play to them. “I’ve held talks with Michael and he’s making noises about wanting to come back to the area which is his home,” said Brown. “We’ve moved the deal closer but he has a couple of big offers from elsewhere which we’re competing against. “We’re doing all we can and someone of his quality and experience would be a great signing.”

Pirate, is it fair to say other L1 clubs are getting the best out of contract players and we will get unknown to us players-or typical dc known players?

Pirate, is it fair to say other L1 clubs are getting the best out of contract players and we will get unknown to us players-or typical dc known players? There have been good signings made in League One, but still plenty of quality available on free transfers, loans and permanent fee deals. Most of the best players in our history were 'unknown' to a certain degree, I would never dismiss someone for their lack of profile. I'm hoping DC has got a few rabbits up his sleeve.
