Happy New Year Gaschatters!
GGMI Preview
Now onto the real stuff and today sees a tough encounter vs Portsmouth. Our record vs them is very poor and they are doing well. The reverse fixture seen us lose 3-0 but we are a much stronger team at home and they have lost 7 out of 12 on the road and during a weekend where some teams might struggle with using their squad we are used to doing it normally, I fancy that could play in our favour. I will be snapping up odds of 15/8 on a home win.
Sky Sports Preview
Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is likely to rotate his squad again for the Pirates' fourth match in 10 days at home to Portsmouth.
Clarke made four changes for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Oldham and shifted to a 4-5-1 formation.
Rory Gaffney and Chris Lines are among those who could be restored to the Rovers line-up for the Sky Bet League One clash.
But Daniel Leadbitter (hamstring) remains out and James Clarke may not be ready to feature for the first time since the opening day of the season.
Highlights of the Sky Bet League One match between Oldham and Bristol Rovers.
In-form Portsmouth will be without Danny Rose and Gareth Evans.
Both men picked up injuries during Saturday's victory over Northampton, with Rose set to be sidelined for some time after fracturing a leg while Evans was forced off at half-time with a hamstring problem.
Adam May and Jamal Lowe were the men to replace them and both are likely to start against Rovers.
Brandon Haunstrup is also sidelined after sustaining a knee injury in training last week and joins Stuart O'Keefe (adductor), Kal Naismith (knee), Milan Lalkovic (Achilles) and Jack Whatmough (knee).
Opta stats
Bristol Rovers have lost 10 of the last 12 league encounters against Portsmouth (W2), including the last four.
Portsmouth have scored at least two goals in nine of their last 11 league games against Bristol Rovers, scoring 11 goals in the recent four matches.
The Gas have won three of their last four New Year's Day fixtures (L1), this after a run of six games without a win (D1 L5).
Pompey have won just one of their last 12 matches on New Year's Day (D4 L7), including losses in each of the last three, all away from home.
Don't forget a nice chorus of f**k off Pompey, Pompey f**k off!
