What Starnes said today, "I'm delighted to commence my duties here at the Club.
"Bristol Rovers is a football club with a rich history and we are looking to expand on the links already created within the local community.
"Any successful team on the pitch must endeavour to achieve cohesion through teamwork and it's important that we reflect these characteristics across the backroom staff, making sure we are a unified workforce that has the best interests of the club at heart.
"I spoke with the staff at the club this morning and I will be speaking with representatives from a number of the various departments within the club, to assess where we can find room early opportunities for progress, with an underlying commitment to supporting the good work of both the Academy and Community Trust.
"As our fan base will be well aware, preparations are in full flow for the new campaign and we will look to grow the positivity around the club as the new season draws ever closer."

"grow the positivity around the club" For some that will be new players, new kits and wins in pre-season but for me it needs to be stadium/training ground news, unfortunately I don't think it will be the latter

As fans, really we can only help what happens at games being the 12th man, which many players comment about us in a positive way. But we cant help what goes on off the pitch. Lets do our job as a 12th man and really get the Mem rocking on matchdays and make it a horrible place for the opposition and although outnumbered in away games, let us continue to make the players proud of us with being loud and supportive away from home. While we do our bit, let the powers at be do their job off the pitch.

Welcome to the club, Martyn. As opening statements go, on the face of it that was rather uninspiring, but let’s hope there is plenty of activity going on behind the scenes which is being kept under wraps.

Agree in principle but on the other hand some of the people who come in to a massive fanfare have disappointed both in Rovers and in life in general. The maxim is to set moderate expectations and exceed them and not go around shouting of big impending change and then not delivering. Hamer for instance will never see the landing lights comment down.

All the usual words from some generic speech template. Let’s see if this chap can actually deliver something tangible, to push us on.Good luck Martyn. Attachment Deleted

Regardless of what he would have said, I am a Strong believer in "actions speak louder than words". All the more reason, Hamer's Landing lights quote terrified me at the time.
Welcome aboard Martyn.

It's not easy as the sound does tend to float into the air, but the place is like a morgue most of the time. Maybe we should be looking at our own performance as supporters.

Whatever happened to him? You expecting a monthly update?? I would have thought he would be working on our long term projects, that we can't talk about. You won't here from him often.

Is he actually at the club?
Yes. I met him in early August.
Seemed like a nice guy. Genuinely interested in Rovers and the Former Players Association (he was close with the 'Legends' team / organisation they have at Argyle).

There was a post on the AF from a fan who met him after the QPR game.
Rather oddly he said he was involved in community work, specifically raising awareness of Rovers in schools to try and ensure we don't lose any more young fans to C**y.
Also he was not headhunted for the role, he got the job because he knows Wael personally. So when he left Plymouth he gave Wael a call and asked if he had any work going and Wael gave him a job.
Seems a bit odd for a CEO to be doing this sort of work so it makes me wonder if he is a CEO in the classic sense or whether he is Community Engagement Officer.
In fact where was the job title of CEO attributed to him at Rovers? Has there just been an assumption that he would carry over the same job title from his role at Plymouth?

I would expect to hear a lot more from a CEO in any business a lot more than a Chairman. He should be at the heart of the business if he is a true CEO.

Did he not say on the interview, that he would be speaking to everyone and making sure we all go in the same direction. Good he is looking into even the smaller things, that get neglected. If his main role is to help renegotiate Uwe, or another site, obviously he won't be able to say about that part.

The poster stated that Starnes said that he isn't involved in anything to do with the stadium- that is Hamer's remit apparently. So as far as he himself has said he has only worked on improving community engagement. Make of that what you will...
