Did he not say on the interview, that he would be speaking to everyone and making sure we all go in the same direction. Good he is looking into even the smaller things, that get neglected. If his main role is to help renegotiate Uwe, or another site, obviously he won't be able to say about that part. The poster stated that Starnes said that he isn't involved in anything to do with the stadium- that is Hamer's remit apparently. So as far as he himself has said he has only worked on improving community engagement. Make of that what you will... Seems a pretty narrow remit for a CEO!

I remember when Carl Saunders used to look after the community involvement, at no or little cost to the club ( I presume?) as he was employed by Avon's finest IIRC

There was a post on the AF from a fan who met him after the QPR game. Rather oddly he said he was involved in community work, specifically raising awareness of Rovers in schools to try and ensure we don't lose any more young fans to C**y. Also he was not headhunted for the role, he got the job because he knows Wael personally. So when he left Plymouth he gave Wael a call and asked if he had any work going and Wael gave him a job. Seems a bit odd for a CEO to be doing this sort of work so it makes me wonder if he is a CEO in the classic sense or whether he is Community Engagement Officer. In fact where was the job title of CEO attributed to him at Rovers? Has there just been an assumption that he would carry over the same job title from his role at Plymouth? He has always been listed as CEO. It took a short while (due to staff shortage) but the official matchday programme now clearly lists him as CEO and he's now got the traditional early page in the programme (that used to be for Steve Hamer).

He is pretty much a traditional CEO, but I think it's that 1) he's particularly interested in the community & history side, and 2) we have a non-shareholding Chairman of the Board, which other clubs don't always have. TBH the whole issue of those 2 is far more simple that most gasheads seem to suggest. Martyn Starnes is a CEO and therefore responsible, ultimately, for operational issues on a day to day basis. The Board of Directors need a chairman to lead it. At some clubs it will be the owner, a majority shareholder (e.g. Higgs) or at least a shareholder. At other times the owner or Board will be want an 'outsider' to be the chair. This is what we have; a paid Chair who owns no shares. He's there to help the board run properly & be around in the absence of the main owner. Our board of course is a funny beast as DS own 92% of the club shares & the supporters club scheme owns most of the rest and they have a place on the Board (used to be 2, now 1).

Any idea why he's now shown as a Director if he's just looking after the community side of the club? Plus who's looking after the club finances if it's not MS following Brookfield's, departure?

Topper - I'm sure the club will answer all your questions in their very next communique. These things take time and many people are working very hard behind the scenes. I can't say anymore than that......confidentiality clauses and all that.

In addition to that he did say " but he (DC) is still accountable to me and the board because he still has to operate within certain parameters". Perhaps a 'layer' between DC and the Board which wasn't there before and maybe causing a bit of friction - perhaps!!

Hi everyone, just seen this thread discussing the Community Trust at Rovers. Just to give you all a little more insight, Bristol Rovers Community Trust is an independently run and financed charity that works in close partnership with Bristol Rovers Football Club. The charity is governed by an independent Board of Trustees and works with a wide spectrum of the community offering social inclusion, health, education and sports participation projects to give people the opportunity of enhancing and improving their life choices. The charity receives incredible support from Bristol Rovers Football Club that enables them to engage and inspire people of all ages as well as unite the communities in which they live. The fantastic work of the Community Trust was recognised earlier this year when they were awarded the Bristol Life Charity of the Year 2018. Further information on the work of the Trust can be found at www.bristolroverscommunity.org.uk/ Hope this helps.

With all the uncertainty surrounding the club over the last few months, the one bright thing I read about is the work of the Rovers community trust.Well done to all involved & I hope it continues to build & florish in the future.
