We'll be struggling to field a team for Southend at this rate! Let the dev squad have a go!

Looks like he doesn't want to sign his contract. I don't think he'll be involved in the first team much if he signs, Joey Parts earned the RB spot in my opinion, he's got the confidence that leads was starved of before his injury. He's likely been offered a 1 year deal, can he get longer elsewhere? We'd be silly to offer more than a year due to his recent injury problems - again, just my opinion

Looks like we’ve lost the famous blue and white quartered shirts as well, but retaining the shorts 😉

Thank goodness we've finally been put out of Byron Moore's misery. One swallow does not make a summer and just like warm beer not worth pursuing 😂

Why on Earth has Gaffney been retained? Can only hope he will just be a squad player. Maybe he was still under contract?

No real surprises for me on the list...possibly Gaffney being retained.
Good luck to them all in their future careers.

Leadbetter - when on form and free from injury - is still our best full back IMO.
No loss on the loans or those released (sadly). Gaffers is good enough for this league as are all those staying - good squad left - evolution!
Plenty of free transfers to replace those leaving.

Link has a list of players staying then says 1 player offered new contract. That obviously means that Gaffney is under contract so DC has no choice to retain him, unless he mutually agreed to end his contract, but why would he! Personally I think he could be useful in our squad.

Moore - who says he's had an upturn in form? How many assists and goals has this upturn produced?
Gaffney, a striker that does all his best work outside the box. One goal this year (in January) and then you have to go back to October to find his previous goal. If everyone wants to slag off Nicholls for his lack of goals, shouldn't the same rules apply to Rory?

Personally I think he could be useful in our squad. It could be that the contract offer was on table still for Leads - players like gaffers may have been out of contract at end of season but agreed new deals recently..... I would have expected more out of contract players given we have a tendency to go for shorter term deals nowadays

I could run around a lot and give 100%, doesn't mean I'd be any good. Gaffney and Nichols both spend the too much time running around like headless chickens, drifting out to the wing. Made a point of watching Nichols vs Gillingham and many times he dropped deep even as far back as the CB's to get involved and make some simple passes, which is all well and good, but looking tidy in possession and playing a few short passes means nothing when your a striker who's only scored 2 in 43 apps. Link isn't working but search for Nichols on here to get his stats > www.transfermarkt.com1 league goal in 37 games 😳

You can't fault his effort, but that should be a given.

I would have expected more out of contract players given we have a tendency to go for shorter term deals nowadays I disagree. In the conference and League 2, yes we gave out short contracts and made players earn longer deals. But over the last 12-18 months, the club wont release length of contract details when they announce a signing or announce extended contract signed. Se in reality, we have no idea how long a lot of players contract are these days. And if a player had recently signed a new contract then the club would have announced it and no doubt that there would be an interview with the player too along side the announcement.
