I think we should be looking at players released from the division above as well as below. Football is about opinions and sometimes kids who are released go on to be very good players at other clubs. I would even look at City's released list (then we wont have to pay any removal expenses!) I personally don't care where players come from - Prem reserves/youths, League Two, National League or the the Western League, good players are good players. Thankfully the new chief scout is of the same opinion judging by his recent interview. Wasn't the point, not where they come from but whether they are good enough to hit the ground running, not for us to have to wait for 6 months before they get up to speed, our slow start last season killed any chance of a playoff spot. Logic dictates players like Craig & Bennett are likely to make a better impact then Mensah & Broadbent, although Nichols disputes that theory.

I agree with you on the whole, but there will always be players good enough to step up and make an impact straight away. We had it ourselves with someone like Barry Hayles. Further afield and more recently players have stepped up and made an immediate impression such as Angus MacDonald, Marcus Maddison, Andre Gray, Dwight Gayle, Charlie Austin, Michail Antonio etc. Look at the record of Mo Eisa for Cheltenham, he stepped up four divisions and has smashed in 25 goals.
