Gaffers is better than any striker from Will Hoskins up to Matty Taylor. And he fits in better if you are classing JJoT as a striker. If he wants to go, good luck to him, but if you had to choose between keeping him or Nichols? Gaffers is purely a 4th division striker at best. At least Nichols will hopefully come good .

He was poor after Christmas true, but i'm not sure how he's gone from people's favourite player to conference level so quickly? Bit harsh

It’s ridiculous how the pendulum has swung so quickly against him. Loads on here were clamouring for him to start in place of Ellis during the first half of the season.

To be fair gaffers would struggle to score goals consistently in league 2. Might get double figures in the conference if played enough games

Good player. Poor form at the end of last season. I will always be sad if a promotion hero leaves, he was certainly the catalyst that got us going back in league 2.
Would like him about.

Have spent the last few days at the cricket in Taunton and as you do I got into conversation with an Exeter City fan who was saying how good Nicholls was. I was saying how poor he was last season and he was talking about he was such a clever player who was really excellent on the ball. I don’t believe that he will have another season as poor as the one he’s had. Surely? UTG!

Was unlucky and hit the woodwork numerous times. He was taking shots from silly places, in an effort to score I remember he was even on free kicks. Then we hit bad form and he was poor. Actually poor, not “not goalscoring poor.” Then towards the end the end of the season, there were glimpses again. By no means, do I write him off. But doesn’t mean I back him. We need another regardless.

If we have any aspiration to be challenging near the top we need 2 strikers who are going to hit 10-15 goals each minimum. Maybe more if the rest of the squad dont chip in. Will gaffers do that? History says no unfortunately. Someone said gaffers is a good league 2/lower league 1 striker. Is that what we want for a promotion push? We have to be realistic and not get sentimental on 'promotion heros'. Look forwards not back. Harsh but completely true. UTG

UTG Just to remind you what you posted "to be fair gaffers would struggle to score goals consistently in league 2. Might get double figures in the conference if played enough games" so basically you considered a player DC paid a fee for from a Div 2 club might now only be good enough for the conference. Pretty harsh on a player who always tries his hardest, unlike some wasters we've had in the past pre DC.

I truly believe Rory is our best link up forward in the club at the moment...when he’s on form he gives us another dimension as he has a intelligent football brain Work rate is always there and could be a class striker but a few issues make him frustrating to watch sometimes...he plays out wide too much and needs to get himself in more goal scoring positions His heading is poor too
But I do believe he’s a better option than Nichols still and everyone is being too harsh and just thinking everyone’s just remembering his poor form in the second half of the season... I can’t see him staying as you can see he’s not happy on the bench a lot

As has been said on here, Gaff is a decent low L1/High L2 striker. If we want to push on to have a meaningful crack at the playoffs we need better quality. If we want to stay around the lower/mid table region then fair enough, keep him.

Well, this thread will certainly boost Gaffer's confidence if he reads it....

But then again, defenders have managed that or more at this level in the past!
