Not sure he'd be that expensive TBH, I doubt he's Championship ready, P'boro have already got too many strikers so we just need to beat off the likes of Southend, assuming Sunderland don't have the cash. Hard to believe it I know but the deal could be less than Nichols cost us last summer! Southend's chairman has claimed they had the 4th biggest budget in League One last season. Amazing if true given their average gates/debts!

Seeing the other clubs that are reportedly in for him (Sunderland, Peterborough) would be very surprised if we could pull this off.

Heavily linked at the moment. I know it’s probably fake news but apparently he’s on his way to us... would be a class signing imo as I feel him and Harrison will be close off the pitch and do well on it. How do you know they will be close off the pitch? Harrison might think he's a lady garden. Or are you assuming that as they are both strikers that will make the difference?

Jusy my opinion, but I wouldn't say a 1 goal in 5 record at this level is too good for us. With respect its not all about goals even for strikers. Many forwards from the very top level down have had good careers without scoring many goals. Gary madine is an example of this and cardiff payed £6m to bolton for his services. Southend have just signed tom hopper on a 3 year deal from scunthorpe despite a modest goal return in his career. Out and out goalscorers are the most in demand players at every level but with the right combination of players in a team the "10 goal a season" man with other qualities can be very useful imo.

I agree actually and Ellis proved that for me in the past. Even when he isnt scoring goals, his pace and power frightens players and creates space for others to exploit. I do have one or two doubts, but I've already said I quite like Taylor and If we can get a level of consistency out of him he could be a good signing.

I expect DC has sold the idea to Hani that Lyle is the best value for money option because we’ve already got a few spare shirts with his name on. 😂

He'll only leave in 2 years for City when they activate his release clause, I hope he just signs for Sunderland and spares us the pain.

My main argument with lyle taylor is that hes not what we need if ellis stays at the club as they are too similar in style and i really really really want ellis to stay.

What about a 1 goal a season striker? When i first saw tom nichols i thought he was going to be a clever player that comes deep and creates openings for others as well as chipping in with about 10-12 goals but it just didnt happen that way. The only thing i tell myself is that he must be a better player than the one we all saw last season. I think rovers will sign at least one striker so the onus will be on nichols to show us all something pretty quickly to reinvent himself at rovers.

That might be a disadvantage for central midfielders and centre backs but in the case of Taylor and Harrison, I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem. Both can be handful for defenders, work hard and have a decent arial threat, instead of getting in the way of each other it is possible that they could feed off each other. I doubt we could attract Lyle to the club and honestly I wouldn't blame him for choosing Sunderland over us but it would be somewhat of a coup if we could pull it off.
