I think there are better strikers out there but the more clubs that show an interest makes me feel that the chances of him coming to us gets less and less. I just hope we haven’t put all our eggs in the one basket for strikers. I seem to remember us doing that in the summer of 2012 when all our energies went on trying to get James Constable from Oxford. We failed and ultimately had no strikers when the season started. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself. UTG! Don't you think we've moved quite a bit forward since then? Of course we have. And the personnel involved now are not those at that time. My point was more about the idea that I hoped we wouldn’t think he was the only player out there and the idea that someone else’s player has reached 5 pages and I’m not even sure he’s that good. I guess that we’ll know in about two weeks time!😉 UTG! edit: 6 pages!!

I like him but there will be better value out there now after the publicity this has attracted. When you add in his age then I think we should move on as unless he scores 40 goals next season there will be no sell on profit to be had either.Confident that our new head of recruitment will have some better options in his little black book.

Doesn't your heart just bleed for them? Pray for Sunderland...

Yes but let’s be honest Sunderland could afford to pay triple the wages that we do even with that. I’m not expecting us to sign him but there’s is no harm in putting a decent offer on the table anyway, especially now that it is clear we will need another Striker. Factors such as geography, the ambition of the manager and playing time will be on players minds as much as wages will.

I was always a little bit sceptical when Donald went from little Eastleigh to Sunderland. Something didn't sit right with me.

It would make sense if he went to Charlton, more money, better facilities and he probably wouldn't have to move home.

Taylor wont come here, wants to play in the Championship or at least a team heading for the Championship.
Even our loyal players are jumping ship because we aren't anywhere near competing for the Championship

The amount of decent strikers in this country that would be prepared to join us is very limited, so I'd look abroad where we could probably find better value for our money too.

But how many foreign strikers settle into life in Div 1 they seem few and far between. Plus one look around the Mem and our rented training ground will probably have them on the first plane back home! As far as Taylor signing for Charlton whilst the proposed takeover is still to be completed Bowyer remains only the Caretaker Manager, so I doubt he'll be allowed to make any big signings.

Not many clubs at this level go down the foreign route, but it doesn't mean we don't have to. It all depends on the individual player. I've seen quite a few with both the physical and technical attributes to do well in League One. Having watched several games last season in the German, Spanish and Italian 3rd tiers, I can tell you that the mem looks like a palace compared to some of those hovels, as difficult as that is to believe. See below for example: www.alessandriacalcio.it/lo-sapevate-che-99/euro.stades.ch/BagnoDiGavorrano-1.htmlwww.europlan-online.de/estadio-municipal-de-llagostera/verein/7585

There is the old cliche of 'football is a universal language', but I'll refrain from using that.

That’s not much of a problem as most foreigners I’ve met speak better English than we do, me luver. I was amazed to read only this week in a BBC news article that even in Germany there are a number of University courses that are taught entirely in English. If the Premier League can manage then I’m sure we can.

Similar article in The Times today. I can’t do the clever stuff with links but it was along the line of cash flow problems and half their parachute payments are going straight out to other people. The other half being taken up with payments to players still on good contracts. Their old owner Ellis Short has agreed to postpone part payment from Donald. Still looks a total mess. UTG!

DC will be looking generally at Div 2 and Conference league players, Lyle is probably out side of what DC can afford. At the moment the squad is far to light so hopefully signings will be made next week.
