Pot Black comes to mind with some our your little gems on here Ha yeah because criticising a striker who hasn't scored for a year is the same as as saying one of our players is a disgrace for playing mind games with the opposition keeper. Hahaha! He seems to put more effort into mind games than his own game, since the Rochdale game I can't recall when Payne made any attempt to score a goal. How can a big CF go game after game w/o having a shot or header at goal. When you look back at our Div 2 relegation strikers even Clarkson & Harrold scored the occasional goal & missed chances.

I’m not saying we deserve to be top of the league or anywhere near. My point is that the game is decided on very fine margins, those margins have meant we’ve lost not won today, but it doesn’t mean our whole performance was a lot worse than it would’ve been had we won. But the fans reactions are a hell of a lot different than what they would’ve been had we won. Exactly this. According to BBC stats we had 16 shots to their 6 and 8 of ours we're on target to 3 of theirs. The fact is that we forced a few decent saves out of their keeper and hit the woodwork as well. If we score the pen and their first goal is given offside, as it should have been imo, then we win the game, simple as that. It's very fine lines as you say. For me I don't think our overall play is that bad throughout the squad, the key issues are a lack of quality in the final third and one other thing that bugs the hell out of me is that we don't pressurise they opposition when they have the ball, they seem to be given way too much space to play through us. I don't think we need wholesale changes but as a minimum we need some better options up front in Jan. I really hope the club recognise this and are already drawing up a list of a number of options to pursue. UTG You must be watching a different game mate. Our overall play is really bad, could hardly string 3 passes together. If your happy with that style of play your a

Does winning a penalty not count for as much when it's someone who has scored this season doing it?

I’m sick of coming away from the game thinking we had more possession had more corners and morr chances but lost. We just don’t make the most of our attacking opportunities. Not lines fault he Hit thst as good as any of the ones he’s scored, great save , their keeper also made a fantastic save first half and was Man of the match. Agree with that. It's simple really - we don't score goals. Not much else is THAT bad. Stunning save in first half. Great pen save. My one worry would be that lines took a pen last week & did exactly the same this week. These days everything is researched & little is left to chance. I would bet a lot of money their keeper saw last week's pen & thought it was worth a try to go hard and fast for the same placement & hope lines does a carbon copy pen. [br Yeah got to keep them guessing .’im a goalkeeper and I watch absolutely everything that the opposition strikers do in their warm ups during the match etc but saying that Lines has been a fantastic player for us and scored many penalties and free kicks and is without doubt our most creative player and has also won the most promotions of any Rovers player. In lower league terms combined with my time as a gas head he’s a midfield play making genius and DC signing him when he did was a master stroke. Thing is , if your going to use lines properly you need wide players , overlappping fullbacks, Lines is a fantastic passer of the ball and if you play a very narrow style like we did today then your wasting his creativity in my opinion. I’ve bren saying that all season it’s not based on today although today is a perfect example of it. We had one wide player on the pitch today in Bennet he’s a right footed inside forward in that he’s right footed and likes to cut in from the left and we played him central anyway. We haven’t got one single player in our massive squad who is a natural wide attacking player and as I’ve been saying all season this is our biggest problem. We’re so easy to play against the opposition manager tells his full backs to tuck in and stay narrow because “ they’ve got no threat from wide positions and all there wide men are playing wrong side and they’ve got no decent overlapping full backs “ When we had brown , Bodin and montano this wasn’t the case we had options for lines and he had a field day but now it’s narrow sh**e relying on leadbitter to give us what the likes of montano Bodin and brown gave us and nothing more. This is our problem . Nichols Payne , jackubiak they’d all score goals if DC can sort it. I’d start with Mathews on the left and Bennet right sercombe behind Nichols in a 4-2-3– 1 formation tell them to stop hoofing it and give it to lines let him spread it. Both promotions were based around lines finding the wide men and our fullbacks overlapping where as mostly this season it’s besn narrow sh**e hoofing it down the middle to strikers who Lysenko out to 6 ft 3 Center half’s and it’s demoralising for us and no doubt our players.

I agree with your post . once again we’ve had most of the ball most chances , corners etc and got done. Too soft in both boxes . I think we need two new Center half’s who are big and strong ( look at the promotion winning sides from league 1 last few seasons they all had beasts at the back)Lockyer and Craig just average to poor defenders at this level our loan keeper is the reason we’ve not conceding many not our defence they’re rubbish ) one wide player who’s capable of playing on the side that’s the foot that they are. DC got obsessed with Bodin right side, left foot and thought he could go out and buy another who can do that so bought three - Mathews Bennet and Rodman Turns out we now have wide signings that aren’t wide at all and cut inside and we’ve got zero options and play straight in to the oppositions hands. We really are the most predictable side to play against and that’s becsuse we’ve got zero width.

Where did you get that from the match stats as nobody at the game would call that a shot. Perhaps I should have said a shot which required the goalie to make a reasonable save.

I've gotta say I was impressed by their no. 6 Funso Ojo in midfield again. I said last season when we played them he was the best player on the pitch and he shone again yesterday. Good positioning, calm on the ball, hardly gives the ball away and picks the right pass.
You can see why he has played for the Belgium U21s and in the Dutch top flight. That is the sort of quality we should be trying to attract here. If Scunthorpe can manage to tempt a player like that to them, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to get something similar.

Yes socrates, spot on. That’s it in a nutshell, real problem that DC needs to solve. Silly thing is that with Matthews, Rodman and Bennett it seems that we have wide players or at least more than we had last season. DC seems to have changed tactics now that he’s got men to play a wider kind of game. Strange! UTG!

Called it on Saturday that If Linesy goes the same as the Barnet pen it will be saved, wish we would share the pens out. We created a lot of chances just are not clinical enough. Other than Locks no more family silver to sell, so Won’t be seeing Jim white and the yellow tie at the mem in January. 😂

Scunthorpe have had 2 consecutive play-off seasons,2 recent spells in the championship and an owner that has backed them financially. While that was going on we floundered in league 2 and got relegated to non league and have had successive underwhelming owners. When did we last finish above them in the league i wonder?

Not sure who else would take a pen though? Payne I guess. I suspect sercombe would be a good pen taker. We used to have Ellis or Snake, with occasional input from browner & lines. Then bodin took some. 4 out of 5 of them gone. 🙄

Having said that perhaps justice was done as Payne went down so easily. Looking at the highlights again I'm still mystified as to how the 1st goal wasn't offside or why OC said post match it wasn't, as the goalscorer is stood at least a yard offside, even the player who tried to head the ball on looks offside.

I think players who are paid to primarily score goals should be gagging to take pens.
