First 14 minutes you’d have been forgiven for thinking port vale were the league one team and we were the league two side. Ollie (my MOTM) then got the first goal and the confidence grew from there. Whilst Reilly has been criticised for missing a perfect chance it should not be failed to mention he delivered a fantastic pass to Nichols and their partnership showed potential. I thought most of the starting 11 clicked well together and put in a good showing and wouldn’t be against giving them a go against Peterborough. Particular note to Nichols who can’t have been far off Ollie in my own estimation of who should be MOTM but still can’t quite score, Rodman, Partington (first 15 mins aside) and Bennett who worked well with THD who is impressing his self well on the gas faithful. Ultimately - what many said we were missing in the dieing days of the Clarke era - width. Subs wise Sercs looked a little rusty at first from various injuries and illnesses of late, Jak didn’t get much of a chance to impress but looked lively. I’ve made my thoughts clear already on Upson. Whilst the score line looks like the result of the sending off I wouldn’t say that means if flatters us. Reillys perfect opportunity, Nichols hitting the post, and sercombe at the end shows we were dominating that match but still need that criticality. Ultimately a thoroughly enjoyable and entertainingly match to watch despite the controversy of this competition. Feel sorry for those who are boycotting because I can’t see us grabbing a match by the balls like this manymore times this season. Clarke clear man of the match for me. Nichols, Rodman and THD all very good. Lockyer faultless in his defensive work but distribution let him down. Overall an encouraging performance. Can't disagree with too much of that, except Rodman would be my man of the match. Thought he caused Port Vale no end of problems and showed his class. Nichols proved once again how he is good technically and has the football brain but not the touch in front of goals a couple of times he unselfishly passed whereas a striker would normally go for the kill (maybe confidence?). To be fair though one of those times, he passed to Rodman or Reilly I think it was and they should have scored.

Both times we have lost in the final we have been promoted. I'm worried what will happen if we win it. Coventry won it and got relegated in the same season in 2017...

Perhaps he wasn’t expecting the ball back!

I know Port Vale are a fairly lowly L2 side, but in some ways I would rather we were in league 2 if it meant we played well, scored a few goals, gave the crowd entertainment and won some games.
Just imagine that!

Enjoyable game,holmes-dennis outstanding playing in his natural position. You must have been standing near to me, Mr Butterfly, I thought H Dennis did really well. It was refreshing to see a left back stick to his task of marking their wide man. Too often Kelly is nowhere to be seen, in similar circumstances. Also, it was good to see him get a full 90 minutes under his belt.

Neil Aspin ,Vale Manager,'When you get beat by a better team ,you have to put your hands up'. Count the 2 times we hit the post and Reillys open goal miss, this could well have been 6-0. Let hope they take that confidence into the Peterborough game

Massive improvement.
O.Clarke and Nichols were superb and it was great to see a team that could pass and control a football after Saturdays shambles.
We had far more players on the pitch last night that not only work hard for the team but have the technical ability and intelligence to play very good football.

Wasn't there. How did Parts and Benno perform? Not had a look-in under GC so will be interested to know. Parts was good - mobile, passed the ball well and tried to support Rodman as much as possible.. Benno - as he has been all season. Nice on the ball but no end product - wouldn't play him on the left cos you always know he's going to cut inside.

Love Bennet but he had so much ball off of THD as they worked well down the line in the 2nd half but he was so frustrating as no end product. I would have loved him to prove to GC he was worth a shout for the starting line up v Peterborough by driving into the penalty area every time he got the ball not dance all around it going nowhere. With his quick feet Port Vales defenders wouldn't dare touch him but instead he made it easy for them by either getting caught offside and running into blind alleys.

Bennet always looks the business on the ball like he’s going to do something class but rarely does , he hasn’t got a football brain. Plenty of Pompey fans said exactly that when he left them to be fair they’ve been proven ( is that a word ?) right.
