Just look at the scenes inside the stadium ! Eintracht fans really are immense ! They took 15,000 to Milan for the QF! The game is being shown in practically every bar in the city !

It just had to be Jovic ! This is an interesting story for those that don't know. He is on a two-year loan from Benfica. Eintracht have an option to buy him for 5 million. The problem is that Eintracht have no money. They pay 10 million Euro per year to rent the stadium. However, it is reported that clubs like Madrid etc are prepared to pay 50 million for Jovic. So, Eintracht sign him for 5, and then sell him straight away for 50. Not a bad bit of business for a club that is skint!

I've got a sneaky feeling it'll be a Frankfurt-Valencia final still. Arsenal are sloppy as it is and the Mestalla is a tough place to go. Suckerpunch third goal at the death but Valencia's away goal could prove pivotal.
As for Frankfurt, their away results in the EL this season have been sublime - won at Marseille with ten men, won at Apollon Limassol with ten men, won at Lazio, drew at Shakhtar, won at Inter and grabbed two massive goals with ten men themselves at Benfica that helped them in the tie overall. Very underrated team and Jovic is class.

I've got a sneaky feeling it'll be a Frankfurt-Valencia final still. Arsenal are sloppy as it is and the Mestalla is a tough place to go. Suckerpunch third goal at the death but Valencia's away goal could prove pivotal. Chelsea will probably start with Hazard and Higuain though and it would be hard to bet against them with it being at Stamford Bridge too. Higuain....that's a bit of a downgrade. Chelsea are favourites. They were at the start. Don't forget Eintracht are a team of free/loan signings. They have Rebic and Haller to come back, two of their best players. It's a funny old game Saint ! |

Happened to be in Frankfurt for this game.
Atmosphere was very loud but saying that, the ultras thing (and choreography etc like its a stage performance) just isn't for me....detracts from the football.....we hate someone with a single drum let alone the blokes on the megaphones chanting sh**e all game with their backs to the game, different stands taking it in turns to chant, all the flag waving and banners promoting hooliganism. And people serving beers up and down the aisles like they're at the cinema. Just isnt football imo. Give me the Blackthorn any day!! @nobbygas do you live in Frankfurt? Have to say some of the streets were like Shaun of the dead...thought London had its shithole areas but I dont feel so bad about it now?!!

Yeah, I live in Frankfurt/Offenbach. It's no different to any city really. The area around the main railway station is bad, just like most cities. There are some really nice parts, and some parts you would want to avoid. The blokes on the megaphones are interesting. Basically, they help to avoid the crowd 'going quiet', as crowds tend to sometimes. They are from the Supporter's Club and one of their jobs is to stop the use of foul language in the songs, which can't be a bad thing. |

Yeah the amount of druggies/drunks around the station was quite staggering tbh. People in really bad ways. Never really got troubled by them, but there were hundreds. One street they were literally piled on top of each other, completely out of it, presumably on something like crystal meth. But no you're right this wasnt typical of the city as a whole.
Fair enough re the chaps on the megaphones. Do the ultras basically run the club?

No, the owner/President (whatever he's called) is a really left-wing type and quite outspoken. The Eintracht Ultras did have a very bad reputation about ten or fifteen years ago, but that has changed. The area around the main railway station is the main area for prostitution (Eros Centers) and drugs. It's also a magnet for the homeless as it's quite warm to sleep underground in the station. Hence, not a nice place. |

Came a bit of a cropper yesterday, Nobby. They need a new club slogan. How about : Eintracht Ein Volk Ein Fuhrer. I should ring up the club and suggest it. That's German football ! A win yesterday would have almost guaranteed Champions League football next season, so they decided to rest players for the Chelsea game, which they'll probably lose. Their last game is away against Bayern. A point yesterday was the bare minimum required. To be 6-1 down at half-time against your biggest rivals for a CL spot was a bit of a shocker ! They put Jovic on the bench to rest him, yet brought him on after about 35 minutes when they were 6-1 down! Might as well as left the bloke on the bench for the whole 90 than bring him on. |
