Surely we can pay for this out of savings from leaving the EU? Or has whatever value that was been committed (*10) Enquiring minds need to know.

Nothing to do with leaving the EU Oldie, and I'm not sure what your favourite bugbear of 'income distribution' has got to do with it. It's just that the BBC have lost over 1,000,000 tax payers in the last year as more and more people switch off the obsolete BBC and move over to On Demand Viewing via Amazon Prime, Netflix etc. The BBC is no longer fit for purpose. Enquiring minds need to do more research.

Apparently the BBC researched this amongst their own viewers (R4 this morning) and there was a split 52-48 (gulp) in favour of eliminating this age related benefit. Now I personally do not find this surprising if one considers the situation of the 25 to 40 year olds who struggle with housing (cost and availability) and costs such as child care. Whilst those of us lucky enough to be baby boomers sit comfortably (a gross generalisation to make the point) in our paid for homes and have seen incomes through state pensions rise above the average incomes in % terms. This is where the income distribution curve comes into effect.

The BBC consulted 190,000 people. 48% were against the proposal, 37% were for the proposal and 15% preferred to reform the way the BBC was funded. The BBC, conveniently, interpreted this as 52% in favour of the plan. Is there no 'compromise' for the 48%?

Are you aware that there are eleven BBC executives who earn more than double than the PM. There are over forty BBC journalists who earn more than the PM. This is not counting the 'stars' wages like Lineker on 1.7 million a year, and for that they are not even Full Time Employees (FTE's). They are sub-contractors who are also free to work elsewhere !

Shoot everybody whose user name idenitifies them as being of advanced age? No William. Don't be silly. The best way is to hammer an old cartridge casing into the back of the skull, Russian style. This avoids all those nasty emissions from weapons, it saves on the manufacturing costs (and environmental issues), and it also means I don't have to clean the weapons afterwards, which we all know is a boring business. Maybe it would be easier all round if the BBC were to stop receiving money via the BBC Tax and were forced to look after themselves in this competitive world we live in.

And many of them would be the first go, although I do appreciate that some have to be there. Personally I would prefer a Parliamentary (not Government) mandated grant. In return the BBC needs to cut back on those roles and go back to being a public service broadcaster and not chase ratings. As both a licence fee payer and UK tax payer I can live with that.

However, in response to Nobby's question, I do think that pensioners should contribute to the BBC licence, given the circumstances. Whether it's at the full rate is subject to debate.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Being crudely emotive doesn't solve the problem. We, pensioners (baby boomers in my case) have had it easy over the last 15 years. Whereas far to many younger people of working age can A) barely afford housing B) barely afford child care C) have seen the social security net stripped to a bare minimum D) and to many forced to use food banks E) and to many cannot afford feed or cloth their children adequately. I volunteer in my local area and was shocked at the level of child poverty. We have just put together a scheme where local allotment holders and farmers are putting together fresh produce baskets aimed at those families through the salvation army based at a local church. So, as a pensioner, volunteer and working for Oxfam, shame is not something I feel when discussing limited national funds and priorities. I appreciate the view from Frankfurt maybe different.

I'm sorry, but just what has child poverty got to do with over 75's paying the BBC Tax? In fact, what has any of the above post got to do with it? I think your argument is called deflection? YOU support over 75's paying the BBX Tax, and I find that really quite shameful.

A leave poster about someone who is openly remain? Do you watch the BBC, Nobby? Lineker is targeted because he is the highest paid BBC 'star'. Funny how he hasn't tweeted about this because he's pretty vocal about everything else. I rarely watch anything on BBC. It is no longer the neutral National Broadcaster.
