Enjoyed the game, enjoyed watching the young'uns playing well Did not enjoy the reaction of GC to the crowd moaning at Clarke misplaced pass Then again, he wants all of his players supported fully. That pass was crap, but only a mistake, inside the opposition half, giving them a free kick - #nobother

Solid enough performance and a deserved win.
Keeper didn't have much to do.
Full backs looked better. Whether that was down to the formation or Tranmere not having much threat on the wings time will tell.
The three centre backs were good. However, I do think if we're going to play 5-3-2 we'll need to sign another as backup because Menayese is not even close to L1 standard.
We still need to add some creativity and pace to the midfield but the three that played last night did okay. Upson in particular had a good game.
JCH and Smith will definitely be our first choice front two this season. Like the look of their partnership.

Arguably in a 532 the most important positions are the wingbacks, and we did ok last night without either first choice fullback, but it would be nice to have Little and THD in the squad.

Thought we played well. Lots of supporters getting very upset when they went down to 9 because we weren’t going for it but the way I saw it we were containing them well and tiring out a reduced number of legs. Wasn’t long before they tired and we went back on the offensive and got he final goal.
We’re still squandering good opportunities. Tyler Smiths header, Leahy a few times. Could do better with free kicks. Let’s not mention Nichols. But we’re generating opportunities which we weren’t last season. Could still be stronger in midfield. We should stick with last nights formation.

The wing backs re crucial to that system. I thought both were excellent last night but agree, Little and THD can only enhance that.

He was very toxic when shouting at the fans and could have easily not ended well. I missed that - what did he shout at the fans?

I missed that - what did he shout at the fans? for about 10-15 seconds after every moaned following OC kicking the ball out, GC was throwing his arms around and saying ‘fuc**ng calm down’ multiple times. He wasn’t doing it in a bad way but it only takes one person to take it the wrong way!

Menayese did OK when Locks was called up for International duty is he really that far away from L1 standard, if so, then is he ever now going to make it? It's OK saying sign this player sign that player but where's the money going to come from unless Bennett or Nichols decide to jump ship and free up some of the wage budget?

Menayese will never make a L1 defender in my opinion. He's got the physique but that's about it. I haven't seen much of him in the reserves but I've seen all his first team outings and quite a few freindlies and I personally don't think he'll ever make it. Could be wrong of course, hope I am.
Not really saying sign this player, sign that player, just saying what we all know we need to improve. Whether we can afford and attract those players is something else.
There's no point in getting rid of Bennett or Nichols unless GC is 100% sure he can sign better to replace them. So far he has struggled / failed to bring in the pace and creativity he said has been his priority all summer.

Yeah, it would have been very easy for him to hide behind going down to 9 men, but that would have missed the point, and he didn't.

If he can't better those on last night's performances then he may as well give up now!!

I was surprised by the use, or non-use, of subs by both managers. Usually when a team goes down to 10 (or 9!)men their manager makes a sub or two to somehow compensate by putting fresh legs on. Their players were sent off in the 48th and 57th minutes yet they only brought one sub on in the 75th minute. It's testament though to their fitness that they threatened right to the end. At the same time when a team gets player/s sent off there's an argument for the other team to get fresh legs on to really stretch the opposition. However we brought subs on in the 72nd, 75th and 89th minutes. I'm getting the impression that GC doesn't like making substitutions!
