chanting against a terrorist organisation might put some people off ? .. um f*ck them then? If you were from Northern Ireland / Ireland would you really want to hear a 15 year old from Withywood singing about something they have little to no idea about? People on both sides might feel uneasy rocking up with an accent. It's a sh** chant, has nothing and has nothing to do with Rovers. Doesn't even mention Rovers. No surrender to jack, Ted, and dougal.... |

“Potential fans might potentially be put off” So those potential fans were not at the game so wouldn’t know anything about this “offensive” chanting until reading this thread? Let those potential fans come to a game and let them decide for themselves if they are offended! I know two Irish blokes that have been put off enough to not return. As I said they didn't feel "comfortable" which, in my opinion is a real shame. They now both have Bath season tickets. So potentially that's £650 per season down the drain.
They're not "IRA sympathisers" before anyone says, they just were a bit "Erm OK" about the whole situation.

So, unless we can stop stuff like 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' and 'you don't know what you're doing' we should allow the worst kind of racist abuse? Not sure you've thought that through. Yes abuse is abuse, if you start drawing lines we will be in a complete mess, drawing lines for favoured groups and ignoring others is plainly unfair. Besides are you one of those who think that criticism really motivates people? It certainly motivates you to answer back which you do forever, but the players can't answer back so I suppose you think that's fair. I don't think you've thought this through. The idea that a spectrum of activities that can be described in broad terms by the same word must always be the same thing is self-evidently ridiculous. Out of interest are you saying that we should be allowed to come up with the worst sort of racist abuse, or are you saying that we shouldn't be allowed to sing 'you're sh** and you know you are?' |
