I am a Lesbian who has been subjected to homophobia in the past which I found extremely distressing. I have been watching the Gas since 1966. I acknowledge that by going to football I am likely to hear chants on a variety of matters that I could find amusing, emotive, boring or downright uncomfortable. There is a fine line between acceptable and unacceptable. I am glad to know that we have, mainly, moved on from the racist chants, except the one where the IRA is mentioned. I am also pleased that the different type of abuse the female officials got has diminished. I think the chant about a certain someone and death totally unacceptable. Homophobic abuse is, for me, hard to take. But some banter is amusing. Again fine lines. The problem is that everyone's "line" is in a different place. Some people like myself would just like to hear none of it. Others say the "holding hands" or "boyfriend" chant are just banter. Then you get the complete dickheads like a bloke near me calling Brighton players sh**-stabbers. For me we could do without any of it, regardless if it is meant maliciously or not. This, 1000%.

The problem is that we live in a Snowflake world where 'Being Offended' is the standard. But being offended doesn't mean that the other person is wrong it just means that you didn't like it. I personally thought the 'Holding hands' chant was funny. I'm not homophobic but I am from an era where in my old job it was illegal to be gay (armed forces). I also grew up in an era where hundreds of comedians made a good living at being camp or pretending to be gay ('Are you being served' 'Chase me, chase me ..cant remember his name, Dick Emery, Carry On films...the list goes on and on). Those comedians were funny and are still funny. Alan Carr takes the Mickey out of his own campness. None of it offends me. It is just banter. I do not like swearing and very rarely do it but thousands last night were singing 'Who the * are you!'. I wasn't offended...I don't agree with it...but that is my problem not theirsSo if you are offended....be offended ...but don't expect others to share the same views.

We heard it in the East Stand, everyone round me were laughing. No one got offended at them chanting "sheep shaggers" either.

I'm offended at being called a 'sheep shagger', and I'm offended that you are not offended! We all know Camels are much better looking. **No Camels or sheep were actually offended at my comments.....that I am aware of.

I used to have a season ticket in the Blackthorn/Thatchers for many years but ultimately ended up moving to the Dribuild/Uplands seating. Now, mainly for seats, I'll be honest, but also due to the appalling stuff I've heard behind the goal. Heard all forms of racism, bigotry, homophobia, sectarian etc. chants/comments/jokes. I'll caveat by saying it was always only a small minority and not even frequent (not every game) but really just didn't like it and so moved. Same for me, although I found it easier to just leave the wife at home. ah sexiest as well, full house I claim my prize.
