Not sure you can lay all the blame at GC tactics although he is culpable. If his players cant find their team mates with a straight pass from 5 yards which happened a lot last night then that's down to their ability. Similarly so many passes were over or under hit. Couple that with no one wants to shoot or when they do are capable of testing their goalkeeper then the writing was on the wall. As for our defence are they drilled to back pedal until the opposition are in passing/shooting range? JCH has helped us paper over these issues but without him we have no outlet and when Upson is off his game no creativity either. As for Bennett why did he choose to pass than shoot when well placed near the end? Too many players not up to league one standard although the ones that are all seemed to have a collective off day which helped make Bolton look better than they are. GC is in danger of falling into the trap that DC did of being too loyal and protective to the players. If we have a fit JCH, THD and Mark Little in the team we should have enough to trouble teams more and keep out of danger but that wont happen on Saturday when we really have to get something from another home game.

Thankfully we missed this latest drama and went to Bath and watched someone who was paid to make us laugh on purpose. Unlike the Gas where you pay and laugh to stop yourself from crying!!
Jack Whitehall Bath Forum, if any of you have tickets for the Arena tour, you are in for a treat, Mr Whitehall was brilliant.
Unfortunately we will be there for the Portsmouth game and have handkerchiefs at the ready Boo-Hooo.

"As for Bennett why did he choose to pass than shoot when well placed near the end?"
So what would you try if you were KB a shot and if it didn't come off get booed etc or just a simple pass?
JCH brings so much to the team in not only his goals but being an outlet and also a leader of the front line. With him we're potential top 6 challengers without him relegation candidates. If JCH wanted to justify getting a decent pay rise he's managing to do that at present.

Alex Rodman man of the match. That’s gotta be a water take right? Nichols getting the blame again. He was f**king sh** but most of the team were tonight. The only players for me to have any credit were Abu Ogogo who got substituted(??) and Victor Adeboyejo. Particular note for Ollie Clarke and Alex Rodman for a 1/10 performance. And Kyle Bennett who I was begging for and unfortunately didn’t disappoint at disappointing us. Ultimately the poorest performance tonight was Graham Coughlan for failing to get us rethinking our tactics of lumping the ball at Rodman every time we had it. Despite the ginormous Bolton defence confusing basketball for defensive football Fair play to Bolton and well done for getting their first win in a long time. At least they enjoyed it! Rodman won headers, was clever with the ball, won some tackles and crossed quite well. He was pretty effective throughout the game - unlike most of the rest. Nicholls getting the blame ? Quite rightly too. He was atrocious. Sure, he can play a bit sometimes, but how can we continue with a player who sometimes fails miserably too. Nicholls and Clarke failed the team last night.

We were a bunch of suckers last night. Hopeless winless Bolton come to the Mem and turn us over. Could only be us.

Haven’t read the whole thread - it was too depressing straight after getting home!
It may have been mentioned earlier but a bit embarrassing that almost before the ref had finished blowing his half time whistle the PA system was quicker out the blocks than Linford Christie and music loud enough to drown out the boos they were expecting. I wonder who gave the order for that?

Fortress Mem crumbled last night. Being the first team to lose to Bolton will mark Rovers as beatable by anyone. Bromley must be licking their lips.

Don't know if this has already been addressed but does anyone know why Leahy was dropped? Injured or just a change by GC? Didn't really see too much to warrant it recently if it's the latter. Same as Smith, apparently the GPS results from Saturdays game showed they were knackered and he was worried about them getting injured. What nonsense. If the distance they ran is the only measure of whether a player is fit or too tired then Ollie Clarke will, sadly, never be dropped! If a first choice professional player is fit then he should play, unless there are good tactical reasons why not - clearly that wasn't the case last night!

GC dropped an all time clanger last night thinking they were a soft touch. Supporters can predict the large winning margins till their hearts content, but when a manager takes a key component out of our back line for a left back who has barely played this season, then you know you’re in trouble. Kelly was torn apart for 90mins and his lack of game time showed. Much like within the Deon Moore thread, last night was not a game to ‘hand players minutes’. It’s disrespectful to the opposition & the home supporters that turn up to watch it. We rightfully paid the price.

10th in the table...exceeding my pre-season expectations despite a long list of injuries to key players. GC deserves huge credit for turning round the relegation bound club under DC. Couldn't make last night's game but am looking forward to the Pompey match on Saturday. UTG!!

Must have watched a different game, every ball he won immediately went straight out for a Bolton throw in or to a Bolton player leaving us straight back in a mire. Crosses from him went over our players heads. Crosses to him were won by the big Bolton defenders.

Not one to moan, but that was so depressing to watch. I fear another drubbing Saturday The lack of confidence spread through the whole team last night. It was hard to watch and I think we lack mental toughness as so many players started hiding last night - felt sorry for anyone who had the ball at their feet as nobody had the confidence to receive the ball from them. The groans from the crowd made them even more afraid to play their normal games. When we have a game like last night it is so hard to see how it can possibly change but inevitably in football things do have a way of turning round. Perhaps the lads need a day off and go out on the lash for a bit of team building and morale - as long as they don’t drive home like the Derby players I think it may help! I’m taking my dad and nephew to the game Saturday so already had my tickets a few weeks in advance. If I hadn’t I would definitely be giving the game a miss, not just for the depressing performance but to avoid the neanderthal abuse aimed at the chosen scapegoat from a small number of fans.

Who brought them to the club? Some of them are GC’s players and he picks the team so if they can’t do the basics it reflects on him more than them. It’s becoming apparent that GC hasn’t got a lot of tactical nous, he knows how to set up a defence and leather the ball down the channels but when a more ‘erudite’ manager like Keith Hill comes up against him he gets schooled and has no answer. So far I wasn’t wrong when I said that GC was building on foundations of sand and will get worked out the more success he has. When we stop flying under the radar and teams take us seriously we are in trouble because long ball is a waste of time. If it was a viable tactic everyone would be doing it, but it’s often the preserve of a manager who doesn’t have the experience to coach his team to play a more progressive style so chooses route one because it’s basic and easy.

Highlight of the match was when one of the floodlights went out, and the Bolton fans started chanting “You forgot to pay the bills”. Bit rich don’t you think 🙈🙈

Wonder if GC will rush Sercs and JCH back on Saturday? Recalls for Little and Leahy as well? I’ve been a big supporter of Nichols, he’s a talent but is clearly devoid of all confidence and needs to be taken out of the firing line for a while.

The owners will take the money to offset the debt, and then instruct GC and his team to go out and find another freebie that can replace him. The owners will think that GC and Co done it once, so they can do it again.

This game was lost before it was even played. A team that without a win and pointless away from home were always going to turn us over,I should have put money on it. Taking nothing away from Bolton they played well and bossed the game from about the tenth minute after Clarke's feeble shot was comfortably held by their keeper. It was like at that point Bolton decided if that's all we've got they had nothing to fear and they went for it. It looked like an absolute capitulation from Rovers, but sadly the truth is Bolton were better all over the pitch tactically and practically. We don't seem to have a game plan to play without a Clarke Harris goal threat. The rest of our forwards are so ineffective the opposition defenders are playing midfield, our midfield is over-run and good as our defence and keeper have been eventually the pressure tells. I should be shocked at the result and our performance given our position, but I think it's just a reality check we have just been flirting with the top half with our present squad.

Fixed that for you!! 3 League goals, one of those a penalty and one a passback in 84 appearances tell it all! I was a big supporter of TN, but no longer!
