Reports of al-Asad airbase under attack. Hopefully a token act to save face for domestic consumption. Could escalate though, so cool heads needed. 12 missile hits being reported on two air bases. No American casualties reported. Let's hope Trump does not retaliate. So it's ok for the other mob to lob missiles at you, but for God's sake don't retaliate? Your whole thinking is along the lines of "Trump is bad". Why don't you ever criticize the Iranians for lobbing the missiles in the first place?

Iran`s actions are likely to prove catastrophically counter productive. Not just with the US, but with other players in the Middle East.

Possibly, another school of thought is that being remote airbases, Tehran can say they responded but as it caused little damage the US can also say it was ineffective so no further response needed. Then back to proxy wars. Time will tell.

Then back to proxy wars. Time will tell. That was the main message sent by killing Salami. The US are saying, "we know where you are, we can get you at any time we choose". It was designed to make the senior's in the Iranian regime think about their own personal safety. Air bases are massive. They are huge areas. The Iranian missiles have no real guidance systems and cannot be called 'smart weapons'. They are designed to be lobbed at an area. Most will have probably just fallen onto open ground. One or two may, or may not, have hit buildings. They really are random weapons. Also, why haven't the US got something like the Israeli Iron Dome missile defence system? The videos of that system shooting down Palestinian rockets are very impressive. It's not 100%, but it gets most of them.

Ahhh, I see common sense has prevailed and the pragmatists in the State Department have won the day.
It appears no further military action will take place.
Let's hope for everybody's sake that's it.

If the Iranians press ahead with their plans to build The Bomb, then further military action will most certainly take place. It won`t just be a couple of missiles, aimed at a car pulling away from Baghdad airport. A hard rain`s a gonna fall.

When the Iraqi nuclear plant was close to completion, it was destroyed by the Israelis. The Iranian plant will go the same way. That is as certain as night following day. We are not glorifying in blood lust, just stating the reality of what will happen.

Just because I think that something`s likely to happen, doesn`t mean I want it to. I struggle to understand what the Iranian game plan is here. Unless they`re even barmier than I give them, er, credit for, they must know how this is going to end. I`d far rather that the centrifuges stopped spinning because plugs were pulled out of wall sockets, rather than that disparate countries such as the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel, get together to impose a military solution to the situation. Better for all concerned.

And as for the centrifuges, they had stopped, under the agreement which Trump walked away from and has since tried to bleed Iran to death. Some tactic that.

Ukrainian airliner now believed to have been shot down by Iranian missile according to US officials.
So in trying to punish America, they failed to properly notify civil aviation authorities and as a result downed an aircraft containing dozens of their own citizens?

Ukrainian airliner now believed to have been shot down by Iranian missile US officials believe. So in trying to punish America, they failed to properly notify civil aviation authorities and as a result downed an aircraft containing dozens of their own citizens? I think it was always likely to be the case. The Iranians were obviously very nervous after firing rockets at the US bases. Looking at the debris field it is obvious the plane broke up in the air. An engine failure would not cause that.

I have no doubt this is a likely scenario, but, what I am saying, before everyone gets indignant the Americans did exactly the same

I`ve decided to devote my life to Sunni Islam. This is purely to provide some balance to the forum, as there is already an extreme Shia fanatic among us. I will not be naming names, as this this would both grossly irresponsible and deeply unfair. And besides, everyone knows it`s Oldie. Tell you what though, this Jihad malarkey is not as much fun as you might think. It`s not all grooming third formers, and heaving homosexuals off the 5th floor of an NCP car park. No indeed. You try getting your hands on an Islamic State duvet cover. Good luck with that. And I`ll tell you something strange. Ever since I tried ordering an Al Qaeda car bumper sticker from Amazon, my phone has been playing up. Whenever I pick it up, there is ten seconds of clicking and whirring before the connection is made. Weird, eh? Still; I`ll get the hang of it all. Inshallah.

I take it as gospel that you've watched "Four Lions" a fair few times? Just the once. A mate lent me the dvd when it first came out. I parted with £5.80 of my hard earned, to see "JoJo Rabbit" at the Orpheus. It`s a satire on Nazi terrorism, rather than Islamic, but it`s a cracking film. Well recommended.
