The Americans have killed a top Iranian general, who was one of the main orchestrators of terrorism in the Middle East.
Hopefully things will calm down now.

Good job Donald Trump, good job. Let`s hope it helps cement his re election in November. Nobody wants a return to the days when a US president looked the other way, while innocent civilians had nerve gas used against them. Shameful.

So we’re pretty much going to war, if only because we can’t NOT hold Trump’s coat for him because we need a trade deal post Brexit.
This is the hidden cost of the position that Brexit puts us in.

All that nonsense about carrying his coffin down the road. From what I have seen a shoebox would have been big enough.

Nothing like a bit of war to keep an unpopular President in power.
Hope Boris is taking notes.
Maybe he could bomb Nichola Sturgeon in a couple of years time.

God help us all!

"The international coalition fighting Islamic State has suspended operations against the terrorist group so its forces can concentrate on protecting US, UK and other troops at bases in Iraq following the killing of Qassem Suleimani."
Another brilliant and intelligent move by Trump...not.
Still it feeds the baying mobs in his support base who only ever read one line of analysis.

Why do we need to protect our bases in Iraq from Iran? What was General Whatshisname doing in Baghdad? Maybe you are the one who is reading the wrong line of analysis? Iran attacked the US Embassy in Iraq. The US responded in a very measured approach, and at the same time sent a message to the Iranian leadership. "We know where you are, we know where you go, we can hit you at any time". It is about time that Iran wound it's neck in. Trump did not attack Iran. It was the other way round. Maybe it was the Iranians who did this 'brilliant and intelligent move' eh? I applaud Trumps response. Only bad people died in that attack, which surely is something we should be cheering about.

The true question is who is a greater threat to the UK and America? ISIS fanatics and their disciples already here, or an Iranian general who commanded part of their military? I am not mourning him, but asking the question on strategy. The answer is that this act if the consequences are played out could lead to a military confrontation with all the loss of life that entails. Added to that it quite possibly takes the pressure off of ISIS at the point of their near total defeat. Let's not forget the incredibly intelligent Mr Trump also betrayed the Kurds who were instrumental in pushing back ISIS, a process by the way which IRAN supported. Nah, the guy is a f**king idiot. Quite possibly attempting to deflect attention from his impeachment and his actions which contravened his own constitution. And people fall for it.

Genuine question as I wondered where Eisenhower, Ford and Carter fitted in.

No problem with the action itself (apparantly we could have done it in 2004 but chose not to), but I have concerns over the implications for us in the fight against IS with Iraq's parlianent voting to expell all foreign forces, plus he has thrown the Kurds under the bus.

The Iraqi Parliament carry no weight. Their vote is non-binding. This 'expulsion' of all foreign forces. Does it also apply to Iran?
