He hid the fact we were a sh** football team by winning lots of games. His tactics were so reliant on JCH it was unbelievable, not sustainable long-term whatsoever, which is why from his first 5 games at Mansfield he has 5 points despite having one of the best teams in the league I bet stag fans doing the same “ get the p.e teacher out” ha

Even when JCH wasn't playing. Garner has chucked everything that worked about our squad and tactics under the bus because Mourinho wouldn't approve it in a coaching course. I just find it odd, there was this exact same outcry about Coughlan after our third game into the season, Gaschat can be a very reactionary place to be. People need some perspective, i.e. you should give a manager longer than 16 days to prove himself, if we don't then by the end of the season we'll have had around 6 or 7 new managers. It's fine to have doubts, but going "What's your excuse now boys??" really is stupid.

Both DC and GC realised you cant play tippy tappy football in L1 and get promoted. It cost DC his job and GC very quickly instilled a kick and rush game which suits the likes of Tony Craig and playing with little width. We dont have the skill set for penetrating possession football and Craig can no longer play in a pair at the back, he doesnt have the legs for it anymore, not at L1 level. Garner better quickly wake up to that notion and start with coaching them in the final third. Any defender and midfielder worth his salt can go forward and back 5 years without actually making any progress. Someone mentioned GCs football earlier in the thread and did I enjoy it. Not for 90 mins no. But I enjoyed the 15 mins of shots on target per game as well as the goal or 2 that used to go in, as well as the 3 points that went with it. Now we are back to tippy tappy looking good in possession but losing every frigging game and not even getting anything on target let alone scoring a goal. But shouldn't we be trying to progress the way we play? If you want to compete in this league and even get promoted, you do it by being tough, defending hard and winning ugly. You want a solid spine that runs through your back line with a couple of brutal strikers up front. Thats the sort of mistake all the big teams from the championship make when they fall through the trap door. Trying to play their way out by being better. Look at Wycombe this year and Charlton last year real direct in your face teams. And making a good fist of it. But why its not working for Charlton this year is because skill out ranks battle at that level. Pretty football is for the championship and above where the players are far more technical, hence the pay gap. At this level its good old muck and bullets.

Luton, Sheffield United, Wigan and Blackburn all got promoted playing a good style of football.

Well that was poor - no, water poor!! We have wasted a great opportunity to get some money into the coffers, a Wembley appearance could have got us a decent signing in the summer. I am still in the camp of supporting the manager, but only just. He needs to move on from talking a good game & finding positives to actually getting results & IMO tonight’s result lays solely at his door, and I hope he puts his hands up & admits he got it wrong & apart from unloading one or two after that, there is no positives whatsoever. Obviously Nichols has played his last game & I would have thought Bennett & Adeboyejo have too, but all the uncertainty is not helping with a new system, if we can call it that. We can forget any dreams of a play off if this continues.

Because Ben came in and said evolution not revolution but Im sorry so far it looks as if he has torn up what was good about this side. Some of us were concerned and it is playing out so far in his decisions. I think in the other thread someone made a good point that it as if the side is being treated as if it was fighting relegation and been turned on its head. We were fighting for promotion!

BG will have learnt a great deal from to nights 'practise match', he now knows Victor and Kyle will have to be moved on, Rollin needs a rest and Tom ,Alfie and Tonne are his back 3, we may have known that all along and he may have suspected it ,he can now make decisions based on first hand evidence, on we go to Saturday and 3 points !! oh and we need an Ogogo in midfield! Yes it looked like a practice match between the academy team and the old professionals. Lost what should have been an easy £40k in prize money and a lot more had we progressed further. In short a very expensive practice match which only tells BG we do not have the players to play the style he wants.

Maybe they should focus on their annual play-off bottle-job and their insistent desire to sack the clueless midget whilst expecting to sign every wonderkid striker available on loan first before worrying about a player we're actively seeking to find a new club.

And for all those kicking off, you just wait until the new manager bounce wears off. Thing is we were never going to have a new manager bounce as bizarrely ours jumped ship when we were top of the form table. I feel sorry for Garner as he had to hit the ground running or the knives would instantly be out. This whole situation is that tosser Coughlan's fault.

The trouble is that it looks bad from the outset when he's turned a winning side into one that's loosing as soon as he arrived. I'm happy give him time to turn things round but it's easy to see why people aren't happy when our season looked so promising a few weeks ago. I get the feeling this season has been written off by the club already and we are planning for the long term.

Lots of accurate comments in fact fellow gasheads!
The exact reason ‘modern football’ drives me mad. I will back BG and remain patient with what he’s going to try. However, Stevenage played like us under GC tonight and won, dug in, fought for the cause and it paid off. For all our possession, and slow build up play, it was pointless. Unless we can sign 3/4 more Josh Barretts, who looks class by the way, we will struggle to play possession Based football and be successful.
Still excited about what BG is going to do and who he’s going to bring in. But f me, I prefer watching winning football regardless of style.
