Is the likely self isolation for the over 70’s going to be mandatory or advisory? Would seem very harsh to have this forced upon them, One of my former neighbours is over 70 and several times per week sets off on his own bird watching and will walk well over 10 miles each time, he’s also never drank or smoked. Will he now be imprisoned in his own home which will have an adverse effect on his general health whereas an under 70 with an underlying health problem or in poor physical health through poor lifestyle will continue to be able to go about their usual business? I don’t know what the answer is and it is hard set a black and white set of rules. Have there been any other alternatives suggested? With regard to idiotic panic buying should there be enforced rations on certain products? Can the selfish bar stewards loading up on hand washes etc and then selling them on at inflated prices be prosecuted. Bring in some emergency legislation if necessary. My wife works in the NHS. She says that hand sanitizer is being stolen off the walls in some hospitals. That goes beyond selfishness.

Really should be punishing such people - perhaps some self isolation at Her Majesty’s pleasure is called for?

Advisory, it is intended to prevent their exposure and contact with others who may have it. More of a safe house than prison. Scotland is recommending family visits but "no pub or bingo". My neighbour has been advised to stay away from her 90 year old mum who is in a care home and she is worried she may never see her again. I believe advisory from the sounds of it, but the Government's communication on it all so far has been appalling. briefing the likes of Peston and seemingly floating ideas via social media and selected journos to test the response
Looks like we are now going to get a regular update from Government officials of the back of the criticism of their handling of it so far, so hopefully it will lead to some clarity and people can calm the f**k down when going to the shops at least

If we didn’t get direct regular briefing before I think the situation has now progressed to the point where this is required. Playing devils advocate was selected briefing being made to try and take some control by communicating via those trusted to not over sensationalise or spin for political reasons? While the media will moan about how communications have been conducted so far some should look closer to home and consider their own responsibilities in communicating new news and developments in a responsible manner. I watched a press preview last night and one of the broadsheets was headlining their story about restricting movement of the over 70’s with “£1000 fines and detention in quarantine” for those in breach.

I got the phone call last night and from today I am working from home. So you`ll be meeting, er, clients at home, rather than outside Frankfurt Hbf. How does your wife feel about that?

Tsk, you only meet very strange people at the Hbf........and an unspecified amount of time, maybe months, stuck in the house with She Who Casts No Shadow? It can only end in divorce or murder.

My wife is working from home as of tomorrow on company instruction, rumour is my daughter's school will close on Friday. I may need to ask for overtime. 😐
More seriously, my son is the most vulnerable, along with most of his friends, and his school has no plans at the moment outside staff keeping away if they show symptoms.

I think your situation touches on the most difficult issue. How do we protect the most vulnerable, like your son. It seems to me this is going to be down to you and your wife. The most likely scenario for most people. My neighbours are 96 and 92 respectively. I have offered any help I can, shopping etc.

sometimes, I just.....
Shannon Glancy said: “Meant to fly out to Benidorm tomorrow for Paddys Day and it’s just been announced that all bars, clubs, restaurants etc are closed for minimum 15 days as of midnight tonight.”
Another said: “Gutted. Flying to Benidorm on Tuesday and they’ve closed all bars and restaurants.”
Everton fan Paul Smith said he heard the news as he headed for the airport as his holiday neared an end.
Author Sam Michaels, who lives in another part of Spain which is also affected, said: “Restaurants and bars closed too here.
“Benidorm will be like a ghost town.”
And tourist Mike Jarman, from Birmingham, on his way to meet friends for a boozy afternoon, said: “I’m on the second day of my holiday.
“It was meant to be a week of fun away with some mates but this is going to change everything.
“If I had known it was going to be this bad I would never have come.”

I'm 72 and I look after six people in the community. After yesterday's news I shall comply and stay home to hopefully stop myself from being a burden on the NHS. The time has come to think of others and put them first imo.

My wife works in the NHS. She says that hand sanitizer is being stolen off the walls in some hospitals. That goes beyond selfishness. That’s a disgrace but unfortunately not surprising in this society. Really should be punishing such people - perhaps some self isolation at Her Majesty’s pleasure is called for? I mentioned this t'udder day ,the worst bit is in northampton hosp people were taking the sanitiser from the beds of their family and friends. I can't imagine what i would do if i was in hosp and a friend or family member stole the sanitiser, To me thats far worse than a stranger taking it. Prison i read somewhere that if it continues they may end up releasing prisoners. Over 70's self isolating for 4 months, what happens to those that are still working with a mortgage or rent to pay, or those that do not use a computer, those who are housebound, i also read something about putting a sign on your door saying you are isolating and to knock and leave post etc outside the door, in the words of alexi sayle "Might as well put a sign in the window saying come and steal my video" . As you can guarantee some asswipe will take advantage Also saw that over 70's who don't isolate may be fined a grand, and face arrest. The closing schools is a hard decision as most will be out all day probably getting more exposure to the virus than if they were at school
