OB can you put some light on why Germany has recorded 23,937 positive cases and only 93 deaths (and that's 93 too many), whereas in the UK we have 5,018 cases and 240 deaths. Is it purely down to numbers tested for the virus ? That will be interesting

One other question OB (sorry about this) but why isn't Italy seeing a reduction in positive cases and deaths based on the restrictions they have put in place. We have been led to believe that the virus lasts upto 72 hours on surfaces (let's call that 3 days) We have also been told symptoms would show between 3-10 days from infection. As Italy has been quarantined for 13 days now there surely should have been a reduction in positive cases and potentially deaths .

By your post, I'm guessing you know somebody very well in the profession. The only reason I say that is that I do too, and their comments and opinions match yours. WE MUST SOCIAL Distance the best we can. Our actions can either cost or save lives. You decide! I am 14 years in the profession. Heres the issue. View AttachmentLatest number is 281, the equivalent Italian number was 366. I was listening to the radio earlier, there was a stats professor on talking about the exponential rise. Cases are doubling every 3 days, if social distancing allows the doubling to 4 days means over a month the difference is 640,000 cases rather than 5m. Small changed make a big difference.

Sky Germany are offering free access to their film and entertainment channels. Will Sky UK do something similar?

South Korea has virtually no restrictions, yet they seem to be beating it!

My wife and her sister have been drumming the self isolation message into their parents all week. My mother in law calls this morning about the news that meeting up on Mother's Day us being discouraged, saying they didn't realise what was going on. Bloody Hell. Stuart, you seem very well informed and have probably done a lot more research than most given your family circumstances. I hope your lad stays safe and well btw. What is the long term strategy of social isolation? I get that we want to reduce the strain an on the NHS and limit the spread as much as possible. What about beyond that? If we go even further with this lockdown and everything then settles down with reported death and positive tests reduced or disappearing then what? At some stage will these sanctions be lifted and we could be back to square one and have to go through the whole cycle again or is enforced isolation going to be in place until a vaccine is found and readily available? That’s partly why I asked my earlier question which hopefully OB may be able to offer some thoughts about having some alternative, more radical approaches? Thanks. In terms of your question, I don't know but it sees to me that the ability of the NHS to cope with the surge in intensive care cases on top of the 'normal' numbers is not good. The intention seems to be to suppress numbers and perhaps they would rather have a longer peak but shallower. Things will improve and then get worse again, we are likely to be living with this for some time until the 'herd immunity' becomes the majority.

Really hoping I’m not going to be a one of the 1.5m to get a letter this week. A life in complete isolation for three months doesn’t really seem much of a life at all.

Whilst I would agree it doesn't seem much of a life ..it's only 3 months and in the long term if it keeps you safe and well it's worth it. I don't know your personal circumstances and I know for many life on their own in isolation is hard to imagine but I'm sure many organisations are there to help and support people through this .

Seems every bit as bad as being given a prison sentence especially since all my hobbies are outdoors and being a bit of a fitness nut has helped keep me staying well in recent years and I believe helped me remain free of many of the various bugs and viruses which others seem to regularly pick up, especially in the winter months. I had open heart surgery 8 months ago to replace a congenitally defective valve with a mechanical one. All pretty straightforward and fully recovered very quickly and I don’t think this will have any bearing on being on ‘the list’. Being on 2 different immunosuppressants for Crohn’s might see me added to the list although I’m hoping that being relatively young (45), and otherwise fit and healthy I might not make the cut. When you look at all the listed conditions for people being categorised in this way it’s hard to see the number not being over 1.5m so hopefully I will escape!!!

Better a 12 week prison sentence than a potential death sentence.

Sorry does this mean over 70's no symptoms can't go out for a walk now or a car ride? No. In fact, the press conference last night suggested that as long as you keep the 2 metre distance, don't congregate with others, going out for a walk is good for you, mentally and physically. The virus doesn't like temperature, uv light, etc. But you MUST keep your distance from others.

I think they said letters should start being delivered Tuesday, so I would imagine you'll know by Friday? I dread to think of my Father's reaction if he gets one, 12 weeks, he'll go nuts.

Better a 12 week prison sentence than a potential death sentence. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe you should consider others. If we all have to isolate ourselves for the good of everyone else then 12 weeks is a small price to pay.

Would not be surprised if we are all put in some kind of lock down soon. We just have to suck it up. As usual a bunch of selfish pricks ruin it for everyone. People hoarding food. Fighting in supermarkets. Snowdonia seeing record breaking visitors. Parks and seaside resorts packed. Some pubs remaining open. The worst of humanity on show. Very depressing.

The best analogy I can come up with is that our parents/grand parents had to pack up their lives and go fight a war for five years. All we have to do is sit on our arses at home for a short spell.

Now moaning about staying in
