Eric, I`ve run long distance all my adult life, ( eight miles this morning, in the lovely sunshine ) and I`m hopelessly addicted to it myself, but if giving up for 3 or 4 or 5 months helps keep me ( and others ) alive, that`s what I`ll reluctantly do. How many years have you been following the Gas? Surely a few months away from pounding the pavements, is a doddle compared to that? When all this is over, I reckon we should all meet up in the Wellington. Hell, I`ll even buy Oldie a glass of crème de menthe. UTG. William. Your on. Be my pleasure. And I`ll have a Drambuie and Tizer. How about you, Nobby?

I shall just have a pint. I've given up the hard stuff, especially Tizer.

The company I work for has received a complaint this morning. We provide Critical Illness cover - this provides a lump sum if you are diagnosed with one of the medical conditions covered by the Policy, most commonly selected illnesses to be covered are cancer, heart attack, stroke, MS, MND etc....
The husband of a policyholder has complained that CV is not one of the illnesses listed for cover under the Policy - that in itself is annoying enough. He then went onto say that if we do not pay out now that his wife apparently has the virus he will go to the media. I think it’s the company that should be threatening to name and shame him in the media not the other way around!
Amazing how people latch on to these types of catastrophic events and see it as an earning opportunity - bit like the scumbags who claimed to live in Grenfell to get put up in a plush hotel and get a lump sum compensation payment.

A 4% death rate seems to be the anticipated figure across countries if all the figures are accurate. For the UK with a population of 67M that's 2.68M people which is truly shocking.
On a separate note, I PM'd you yesterday afternoon and wonder if you have had chance to read it yet. I would appreciate your NHS expertise.
I think, think, the 4% relates only to those that have an underlying health issue, not 4% of the entire population. No Baggins, OB states that he is basing his figures on the "general population" where n = 100 people. His figures state 4 deaths in 100 so you can extrapolate across the total population of 67M. He has built in allowances for not everyone getting the virus and not everyone who does get it needing various levels of treatment. Younger and healthier people will have a much lower mortality rate whereas older people and people with existing medical conditions will have a higher mortality rate. Of course, OB has now reduced his figures slightly so now might look more luke just over 1M dead. Still a very worrying figure.

Reduce the number infected to 50% or lower and we are looking at the hundreds of thousands. Get is to 25% and we could be at 300,000. Its just about how successful we are in each of those steps. So variable.

Breaking away from that and other group activities has been fairly easy. The prospect of months on end of not seeing another human being, not getting to see my family in Dorset for months and being prevented from keeping fit and active in the fresh air (with social distancing of course) is just too grim a prospect. I like the sound of a beer in the Welly but that seems a million years away at the moment. Eric i know its not the same but maybe skype your family, i know it's going to be difficult for many over the next few months, i know this will sound odd but to keep fit try running up stair and walk back down for 1/2 hour or so every day, try n find something to do to keep you busy if possible, and if you feel your mental state getting worse ,fer feck sake ring someone or pm someone as it does help

I really feel for your customer because you should have it written in the policy that all future pandemics would be covered!!! My God some people are beyond belief. On a side note anyone who doesn't have critical illness cover should have it. When I was working in the UK I had cover for my mortgage as well as a separate policy. We all think it won't happen to us but when I was diagnosed with cancer my mortgage was paid off and the other policy paid towards a holiday home in France (where we now live). In hindsight I wish I had cover for £1/2M . So for not a very high premium get some cover.

If you search on Ebay face masks there are pages and pages of them ( admittedly not all based in the UK). Why doesn't the UK government undertake a compulsory order on the lot so they can be distributed to NHS staff.

I had to go for a walk on Sunday to clear my head. Kids and wife were stressing me out. I don't want to lose that freedom because others have abused the freedom we do have. Makes me sick to think how ignorant and/or naïve some of these people are. All the people queueing up to ransack the supermarket. What can they possibly still need Pp i have difficulty leaving my home due to mental issues so haven't been out to the shops, Wend hasn't been able to go either as and i'm going to be honest i also self harm when things get too much. I've been ok for the last day or so ,it allowed wendy to go to tescos and get a bloomer as it the only bread i will eat, as she went late on yesterday she got a loaf at 28p , she managed to get some other food and said it isn't too bad there , she went again today and said it was better than yesterday with fewer people ,Tesco even gave em a bunch of flowers free. Some have no choice to go to the shops as online deliveries are a long wait, for some who live week to week and dont have much in the bank it's very easy to forget that the money only gets taken on the day its delivered, A lot of people forget this and end up short. Not having a pop just giving a reason why a few (not all) people still go to the shops although those who are still panic buying without good reason should be thrown in the avon at hanham and stoned as they go over the weir in st annes

We have been told there is enough if people just shop as normal.

Looks rather like we are about to be locked down this evening and in my opinion not a moment too soon.
Hopefully this starts to level us out in the next couple of weeks and keep us away from Italy levels. I think they are on 4000 new cases a day and 600 deaths now which suggests it is starting to level out for them. Fingers crossed.

I’m the same, received a critical illness payment last year for heart surgery (probably one the better illnesses to have on the list!) and very grateful I was too. However, every now and again I think why didn’t I take out a much higher level of cover for a small amount of extra premium. Never mind!

I don't think you will ever stop those greedy idiots(i was polite there), the shops look like we are having an extended xmas holiday with trolleys overflowing. It's not too difficult imagining some of these bellers demanding a refund on bog roll and other stuff they don't use when this is over. Try not to too stressed over nappies as there are alternatives, again have a wry smile as you know how quickly babbers grow, hopefully anyone who has stock piled nappies kids will out grow them in a few days. Not sure how old yer babbers try to get a few bottles of cows milk and stick em in the freezer , if you run out of talc for yer kids i have a bottle of medicated talc with your name on it you just need to pick it up, i also have a couple of spare bars of soap if you cant get none(adult soap) Thats about all the help i can give at present.

One thing that really bothers me is how much of this stockpiled food will actually end up being wasted and ultimately thrown away. It's like being at a finger buffet where lots of people just grab everything they can see and fill their plates to overflowing meaning that people coming in later haven't got much left. Then you walk around an hour later and see the same greedy bastards with half full plates that they are scraping into the bin. They've just grabbed food for the sake of it, not cos they need it. I think it's going to be the same with the stockpilers. Surely they can't eat everything they have bought unless they are planning to put on weight.
