Let’s hope so, with all the talk of bad variants popping up let’s also remember they can mutate to become less dangerous as well.

Go Boris , Go 🇬🇧! It’s over 👏🙄 Come on yatton let’s have some balance.Cases we’re down 23% for the 7 days previous to that,so still down overall for that 14 day period.Daily cases have been bouncing around between 26k - 36k per day for about 6 weeks now. A daily death rate that has crept up to nearly 150 seems to be one that is acceptable as a trade off for having a fully open economy by the government. That is a subject more worthy of debate right now imo.

I think Jonny Van-Tam summed things up nicely on sky news yesterday. Using one of his trademark metaphors,to make his point Prof Van-Tam said “it’s as if there was this big express train that came down the east coast mainline, but, actually, the final destination is the last stop in Scotland somewhere.Of course,as you go down that rail journey, the line speeds decrease, they get a bit more twisty and turny, there are more stops, and false endings. We’re still in the pandemic period and I think the period of considerable hazard is going to last for several more months”. He also urged the public to listen to health experts, rather than celebrities such as Nicki Minaj, adding “If your gaming PC develops a fault, don’t take it to a plumber and ask them to fix it”.

Agreed , but my point is we are doing badly compared to most EU countries. Remember, we had a head start on the others. We’ve had more deaths , more cases , we’re still having more cases & deaths. seems odd to me that posters seem perfectly fine with 150-200 deaths a day . Why are we doing comparatively worse than other EU countries ? I’m trying to add balance by saying things aren’t all roses .

All the major euro nations are still under lockdown to some degree aren’t they? Norway is about the only one I can remember seeing having undergone a freedom day like here.Things are certainly not all roses and as JVT said this is going to carry on for a long time yet.I don’t know who your referring to when you say posters seem perfectly fine with the present death rate, not me for sure.Government seem happy mind.

Thanks to the high vaccination rates across Spain and Madrid (around 75% of the population have been fully vaccinated), and a significant drop in the infection rates, restrictions in the Spanish capital have been all but lifted, and a sense of normality is finally returning to the city. From 20 September, all restaurants, cafés and night clubs may now open as late as their licenses allow, and shopping malls, markets, shops cinemas, theatres, museums and galleries no longer have to apply capacity limits.
Please keep in mind, however, that the following measure currently remain in place in the Madrid region:
It is not compulsory to wear a mask if you’re walking down the street and can maintain social distancing. You must, however, put one on before entering any public indoor settings, including public transport. In bars and restaurants, groups are limited to a maximum of 10 people outdoors. Indoors, where the maximum capacity is limited to 75%, group sizes may not exceed 6 people. The maximum capacity in night clubs and other late night venues is limited to 75%. Drinks may be ordered but not consumed at the bar. Masks must be kept on at all times except when eating and drinking. It is not permitted to dance indoors and is only allowed outdoors if social distancing is possible and masks are worn. Social distancing rules must be followed at all times.
Found this in the Spanish press. Will be interesting to see how there new cases progress in comparison to our own. They have got numbers down way lower than we did though as a starting point. Will check out Spain/Germany/Italy when I have time to see the state of play there and report back on here.
edit: New cases reported 29/9/21 2761 deaths 39

Caught that during the paper review on the news, damming stuff but no doubt it won't do much damage in the minds of the public. The official inquiry perhaps but that probably won't publish until after the next election. Boris' holiday is affecting his popularity more.

Thousands of lives lost and billions of £ in GDP dropped - no problem. Goes on holiday - reputation destroyed. The great British public, ladies & gentlemen.
