Loved parts of yesterday, especially the final whistle and Alfie’s moment. But it’s time to drop a midfielder for a striker, Ollie and upson aren’t effective enough to sacrifice a striker. Upson’s role to play off the back four picking up balls and a quarter back role isn’t happening, he didn’t create anything and slows our possession down too much by taking it off Alfie or Craig to pass to our fullbacks, he kept trying to do a Hollywood pass in those conditions?
Ollie isn’t technically good enough to be top 10 league one and struggles with basic passes at key moments, He shows fight and a lot more than upson but you can see him every game being sent off for something stupid or giving away too many free kicks when we need a player in the centre with a calm head and quick feet.
One of these has to be droppped as it showed so clearly having timmy on as well having 2 up top it changes the game and stops them having all the time in the world to pick a pass out from the back.

Sorry lads I'm not convinced by the new regime. I want it to work, of course I do, but yesterday we eventually won against 10 men with the wind behind us. Our last two games have been a against teams in very poor form and we have won one of them by one goal. Though to be honest we can't really judge the performances because of the conditions. Also I think we really miss Tom Davies and Sercs. What really concerns me is our defence. It's a shadow of GC's and in the pursuit of pretty football I believe it's wrong to neglect its importance which I think has happened. Blackpool easily cut through it yesterday even with ten men. Next week will be the real test. The other worry for me is do we have the players with the technical ability to play class football? GC played to their strengths, I'm concerned that BG is trying to play above them. Sometimes it seems that we are a bunch of painter and decorators being asked to do a Rembrandt.

I actually think Upson is a very good footballer, just the one downside to him is a massive downside in the modern game...pace. He is so composed and calm on the ball, some of his passing and technique is fantatsic but he is just very slow in everything he does.

I seen someone on fb say 6683 or something like that anyway. Wow. Looked much lower than for Fleetwood. Still disappointing numbers though. Lowest I’ve seen it for a long time. Terraces were empty. I think it’s because we looked like we had a fairly healthy away attendance - were any on the east away terrace? Or did they let them all in the seated areas because of conditions? Fleetwood of course don’t bring many.

Great post al I complete agree with this. GC kept saying time and again that he wished he could play expansive football but that he was cutting his cloth according to what he had at his disposal, and it wasn't pretty but it was effective. I'm with you, I really want this new method to work and I am hoping that the win yesterday will be the confidence boost the players need to go ahead and spark a run of good form. Not good news that next 6 games we face a massive tests in Sunderland twice, Posh and Ipswich. However I am just concerned that playing football in a way the players are struggling to adapt to, that is clearly far less defensive than previously, is not playing to our strengths and against the strongest teams in the division could be kamikaze football. I hope I'm wrong.

So he should do. Pleased to read this. I want the boss to fire in to the players more often. Get reaction.

Need to win against Shrewsbury & Southend, otherwise a run of 6 games without a win will surely see Ben in real trouble?

So he should do. Pleased to read this. I want the boss to fire in to the players more often. Get reaction. There are times when you give someone a bollocking and times when you put your arm around them. There are times when you need to play direct, attacking football and other times to play the possession, expansive football. Yesterday it seems Ben found out a few of these lessons, but I just hope he learns and improves from it.

A vital win in terrible conditions but, it has to be said, Blackpool opened us up a number of times with only 10 men. Next week I feel we have to revert to a central 3 in defence and probably not risk Leahy. Sunderlands midfield and wingers will tear us apart if we stick to the same starting 11 and formation as we did yesterday and v Tranmere.

AK's goal aside I thought Leahy was the pick of the back 4 yesterday I can't recall him making one mistake! If BG does drop Leahy can he really risk THD when he hasn't played for weeks, I maybe wrong but I sense BG wouldn't mind moving THD off the wage bill as well next summer as he's hardly played him since he returned to fitness. Leahy & Kelly combined could well be on less wages than THD.

Great feeling to finally get the win today. What a goal from Alfie, although the celebrations were spoiled by some heavy handed security in the Thatchers End. I stuck a couple of quid on us to win 2-1 at half time as well so happy days!

Over the moon with the three points, chuffed for the players and BG. Irrelevant now but with 10 men, wind in our backs my only moan is that I would’ve removed one of the holding 3 after 50/55 mins and had more of a go, earlier.
Due the fortune that came our way. Old Brett Huxtable looking after us again. I would say the red card was an orange one, take it though. And to be fair to him, he was right not to give JCH any of the fouls at the end.
Ginnelly goal, Blackman save at the end. Shout out to CH and BG as finally the successful January window paid off on the pitch. UTG

Let's hope he doesn't get ripped apart at Sunderland but I am not confident - and hope I am proved wrong UTG

For me the result is always the most important thing. If not why bother keeping the score?
At last a win. This should dramatically improve morale and set us up for the rest of the season.
It's heartening to hear that BG laid into the players at half time. Sometimes that type of approach is needed. The master of that dark art was SAF. Pep and Jurgen use it to good effect on occasions.
That 3 points cheered me up no end. Especially after being 1 down. Who cares about 10 men & the wind?
