At 0-0 and the wind in our backs we were well in the game, until the decision that ultimately paved the way for Sunderland to grab three points.

Parallels with Nathan Jones up here at Stoke.Talked a lot of scientific theory but the reality was Stoke kept losing every week.

Just noticed that Tommy Nichols starts for Cheltenham against Mansfield today - come on TN! Came off on 57 mins but looks like he should have had an assist on quest. Cheltenham player missed good chance.

Such a weird season? We really have had a season of two halves. At the beginning I feared a relegation scrap, was amazed we headed for the top 6, amazed GC left, amazed we took on an inexperienced coach (just for the record happy, too) and then amazed we couldn't win a game! I accepted months ago we wouldn't be top 6 and the bottom 3 would go down. I'm just hoping to turn up and see the shoots of a team playing for the shirt and playing with freedom. I think I can see what type of player he likes, and if he can mould his team like Robbins of Coventry that's fine with me He's basically got until the start of next season to get us going! Sort out the full back positions and one more creative midfielder and good to go! Maybe. The fullback situation is the biggest problem of all. To play 4-3-3 you need at least one fit full back for each side , preferably two in your squad . We’ve had neither pretty much all season. Rodman did ok at wingback but isn’t a right back. Kilgour is ok ish at right back but we need him in the middle. Hare was very good until he had a bad injury and had been out most of the season but looks more of a wingback than a fullback . Leahy is ok going forward but dodgey defending and is clearly an attacking wing back . Holmes Dennis is hardly ever fit. little looks slow , not good enough and is hardly ever fit. I’d have Lee brown back in the summer if he’s still not making the Pompey first 11 he might be interested and hopefully Hare will come back and stay injury free. Little , H Dennis and leahy I’d look to offload , all three are either not good enough for league 1 or injury prone or a combination of both.

You've summed it up nicely We've been unlucky/ made poor full back signings and probably a bit of both I personally like 4-3-3 but you need very good full backs to play that way. They need to be good defenders AND be positive going forward. Hard to find. Be interesting to predict what our starting line will be first game of next season? How many will still be here? football is a funny old game, some players will be desperate to prove themselves, some will know they are on their way out, some will be hoping a big offer comes in... I went and watched Bournemouth U23 last night, and as pretty as it was I couldn't help but think they wouldn't last 2 minutes against a seasoned top Lg 1 defence. I hope Garner realises this is a tough league and you need a balance between technical ability and guts and blood.

Yes the red changed the game. Of course we still could have conceded and lost with eleven men but we will never know! What is disappointing is how we fell apart far too easily after the first goal. It’s funny how we also talk about how we struggle to break down ten men (until last weekend anyway!) yet our opponents never have any problem beating us when we loose a player! Lose lose lose it’s not got two fuck1ng oo’s it’s got 1 . It’s lose guys..... read L .... O..... S ...... E !!!! This wateres me off more than the defeat. Loose bloody trousers ..... I expect us to lose today ! Thanks 😊 Would a belt help ?

Should have had an assist from a good cross. Cheltenham player missed an own goal. Next best thing to him scoring himself, if he can set up.

Ogogo was plain idiotic. He lashed out. The whole “maguire was a disgrace” thing is a smokescreen (not denying the bloke is an idiot, mind you if one our players was kicked you’d want him to go down). If Chris Lines did what Ogogo did this forum would be broken with the amount of people moaning!
Second goal is plain awful defending. Communication. One goes, one drops off.
JML challenge looked a blatant penalty in the first half aswell.
I’d suggest looking at ourselves and our obvious lack of creativity before the ref or opposition.

Well, I've watched the sending off a few times on the highlights above and the Sunderland player leans into Ogogo, but I can't see what he does to get sent off - although he doesn't seem surprised at the card? It wasn’t the 50/50 challenge, that wasn’t a foul either way it was the way Abu turned to him off the ball and kicked him. Ogogo was rightly sent off , stupid thing to do but I wouldn’t see a problem in suspending their player for going down holding his head either. One ban for kicking out and another for their blatant play acting and unsporting conduct . I can't see in the highlights Ogogo turning and kicking? He comes back toward the player that is down but the card is already being shown. Perhaps he swings his arm as he is trying to shrug off and get past the other player and that is what the card was for? It seems that he had the Sunderland player beaten, and if anything that player is trying to impede Ogogo. If he/we were as 'clever' as the opposition, perhaps Ogogo should have gone down - we would have had a free kick and the Sunderland player would, possibly, have got a yellow. Instead their player seems to feign injury resulting in the red. That's how I see it on the highlights. If there was an arm swung then I can't see an appeal being successful. Ogogo needs to learn - be fouled, get the free kick, and don't react. This really wound me up last night, thankfully a few Armagnac's and a good night's sleep has calmed me down a bit.

General apathy to another defeat just sums it up really. Its seems it's ok to lose to Sunderland as they were once a big club. Yet they have spent pre Garner below us in the league this season. If this was the same result at Wycombe the pitchforks and fires would be in full flow. He really does have good pr.Nowhere else would.this be tolerated.

Sooner or later we are going to have to get wins. I've always thought the word potential means nothing.

Poor defending for the goals today except the freak nature of the second. It seems like an ongoing trend of conceding from chances created on the left flank - I'd say to some extent that its been happening all season. That needs to be sorted ASAP, whether that be a change back to 352 or a change in personnel (although we are thin on defensive left backs).
Prime shithousery from the Sunderland player to get Ogogo sent off but he shouldn't have reacted, that was naiive and it won't be overturned. Hoping it'll be a blessing in disguise to shake up the central midfield a bit over the next three games.
Looked like a penalty for them early on from the highlights angle. Interesting that their player that was brought down didn't really appeal considering the way Sunderland played for decisions though.
Don't think we were ever good enough for 3 points notwithstanding a smash and grab job if it had remained 0-0. Our away record at Sunderland is pathetic. Let's hope we correct that next year as I reckon they'll be in for more playoff misery in May.

Sunderland: big club, long history, solid fan base, good stadium. Truly pathetic they have to cheat.
With their resources, why are they playing third tier football? If we ever lament about our position, just look at Sunderland. Talk about under achievement! I'm sure that they'll be play off contenders again next season - in L1!
