Why don't we "play" the matches over the phone by tossing a coin 3 times? if one team wins the first two tosses, they win the fixture and get the 3 points, if both sides win 1 of the first 2 tosses each, it's a draw. Goals could be recorded by guessing additional tosses afterwards. 1 goal per correct guess. Good job not in same league as West Ham.

Closed doors or not, these games HAVE to be played somehow - whether it is next Christmas or in a couple of weeks time. I can't see why we don't finish the season in August/September, have a close season in October, then run through until the end of May next year with midweek matches every week, perhaps scrap the EFL/Carabao/checkatrade cups (or whatever those irrelevant competitions are called this week) to accommodate. This should catch up in time to start the 22/23 season.

I suggested this in a separate thread but with the added condition that we scrap the Play Offs for this season as that will save two or three weeks and just put up the number of teams required in the order they finish.

I appreciate that the current circumstances could be considered somewhat extenuating to say the least, and I am old enough to realise that "life's not fair". That's not a bad idea abot the play-offs, but i still think that every effort should be made to finish the season under the same parameters as everyone signed up to at the start, even if it means waiting/extending longer.

I can't see how you can change the rules with 10 or so games to go, plus the Play Offs are big money earners when the EFl/clubs will need all the money they can get, either we scrap this entire season or finish it late. If the Euros are delayed until December/January, then finishing this season late seems to tie in nicely with that competition, as does running next season January to November for the Qatar world cup in December. Then we scrap all cups (or make the FA Cup a mid week competition) and have a shortened season the following year to finally catch up by May 2022, assuming CV is just a 1 year hit. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2020/march/efl-statement-update/

Just be thankful we weren't going up or down one thing we have to thank Ben for.

They could always do something similar to the old 'play by mail' system by playing games through the computer based on player stats.
Maybe Nichols will get a goal or two then?

Whether closed doors or later in the year, surely some games could be agreed as not worth playing - I.e. involving teams not likely to go up or down (so reducing the fixture burden). For us, that would arguably be the games against Gillingham, Burton, Rochdale and Lincoln, leaving us only 5 games outstanding. Another option would be to dedicate the first quarter of next season (whenever that may start) to finish this season’s fixtures by shortening the length of the next season through some kind of agreed format change (I.e not everyone plays everyone else). Problem is, the higher up the league you are the more money you get from the EFL

Each club nominates their best Subbuteo player who goes to a hotel with Subbuteo players from other clubs. They could play the remaining games on a Sunday afternoon

Even better can you remember playing football with 3 2p pieces when you were at school on your desk, either that or blow football televised

Just be thankful we weren't going up or down one thing we have to thank Ben for. I get what your saying Al but I would have rathered not watch the last 3 months of dire football and been up there challenging even if it ultimately came to nothing due to just missing out or the Virus. Look after yourself 👍

They could play the remaining games on a Sunday afternoon I’d definitely be up for watching that. Would probably be more entertaining than the real football we’ve had to endure lately. I loved subbuteo when I was a kid. I painted the 1990 championship winning team on my Rovers side. Steve Yates with his white sock tape , got a small ball of blue tack and stuck it on billy oceans head - painted it black ,same for Percy , Brian Parkins curtains , jocks moustache , Boris ginger hair, billy oceans blue cycling shorts, Andy boothroyds skin head. Great side. For Christmas - birthdays my parents bought me some of the terraces and stands and I made Twerton park. Yes I was a football geek.

What gets me is there is no easy way round this. It is a very complex situation with no simple solution. The length of time this virus takes will have an impact on the outcome, and nobody knows how long that is going to take.

The sh** were on a good run and might well make the play offs so every cloud.

Not a bad shout. Seems strange that the tube , train stations, theatres , cinemas , schools etc are still open but football was the first to go. Personally I think that a month total lockdown would probably be best rather than just this thing here , that one there. I feel that it’s being managed in the very typical disaster capitalist way that we’ve come to expect from our government.

You can't just change the rules 3/4 the way through the season, if they did that the season wouldn't get finished due to all the court cases.

The season will get finished, one because it’s the only right thing to do with relatively so few games remaining and secondly a desire to avoid multiple multi million pound legal cases being brought by disgruntled and robbed clubs.
