Anyone watch the interview on the Mansfield site? He said that Mansfield’s training facilities are amazing and are squad weren’t fit till couglan whipped them into shape. Said that he felt he didn’t fit in anymore as all the old guard had left us. Just watched it - thanks. The dressing room probably did begin feel quite different as the promotion squad gradually went their separate ways, but I guess that's the nature of football. I think that a new challenge will freshen him up, and he's obviously got a good relationship with Coggs.

OC leaving won't create a ripple football-wise... He's hardly a big loss like stuart sinclair was when the most loyal, hardworking, passionate player we've had in the last 5 years was unceremoniously dumped by GC to make room for more of his ex Coventry cast offs. Would've been a squad player at best next season and the only reason people are lamenting his loss on here was because he was 'one of our own' but when looking retrospectively, he'll hardly go down as a gas legend.

He always came across as an honourable man who always tried to do right by the club and players. Now he's stitched is up twice, which just goes to show what a bad judge of people I am 😕 We've only the BP saying GC came in at the last minute, plus it was only ever the BP who said OC was close to signing a contract, if OC's kept in touch with GC why would he leave it to the last day, I wouldn't be surprised if this deals been on the cards for months, whether Rovers knew is anybody's guess but we can hardly accuse GC of stiching us up if an L2 club has outbid us for our captain! Perhaps but it was interesting listening to OC on the Mansfield forum, from what he said when GC came in for him “over the weekend” he was interested. So it might be that it was a late show of interest from GC. So perhaps the BP were correct initially and his staying got scuppered late on. Whatever, he’s gone, good luck. Now, who’s going to replace him? UTG!

Mind you if he felt he didn’t fit in with us goodness knows how he’ll feel at Mansfield. UTG

Having listened to his interview, I just can't imagine him being a leader in the dressing room, but maybe he's much more confident and decisive when not in front of a camera.

I liked Ollie and thought he was a talented, hard working and committed player but I never saw him as captain material or a leader. If he hadn't come up through our academy and been a local lad, I don't think he would have been handed that armband. I am guessing every club would like "one of their own" to be captain but it doesn't necessarily mean they are the right person for the job.

The main difference seems to be the 3G pitch but if our pitches are similar to the Mem I assume they can be used virtually all winter in any event, interesting it cost £2m plus inc the £500K FA grant as I assume ours will be costing something similar to build?

Should have guessed he was a City fan coming from Portishead!

Ollie was not a world beater but was local and loyal. For me its not a big loss player wise but for me it signals the end of a successful era for BRFC. I hardly recognise the club atm. I look at the squad as it stands on paper and it doesnt excite me or give me much hope tbh. All i see is a struggle and relagation. Last seasons games under BG were woeful and i just do not see where we are going as a team but I fully understand what wael wants regarding training up youth etc. Wait and see and hope im wrong. The debt may be gone but for me we will need to spend to be able to compete and im not convinced we will. Holding off buying a ST at present, looking forward to more news from the govt, efl and club. UTG

You’re right AF but it’s probably a lot better than what OC has been used to up to now. Hard to tell but it looked pretty small, much smaller than the footprint of the Colony. UTG!

Where have all the Clarkey's gone - long time passing. Gone to L2 everyone. When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?

During the interview Ollie looked quite dejected and referred to not having many ties to Bristol to keep him there. Did he have a family in Bristol?

Don’t get why some are revelling in him having been from a city family and wanting to play for them when he was a kid.
He spent almost a decade playing in the blue and white quarters, and won two promotions and captained us for a season over that time. He’s well and truly a gashead despite what loyalty he may have felt as a kid, just the same if not more so as how Marcus Stewart is.
He’s entitled to want to move on and better himself if we don’t make a good offering for him any more be it contractually, relating to management (I’m taking it to be this as a key driver from what he’s said) or for personal development reasons. I’ve worked for the same organisation for the best part of a decade and I feel the way he must have felt - sometimes you feel the need to move on but when you’ve got a good gig sometimes it’s hard to find the right time and now he has found that time.

Felt that was more of a case of the seeing the old gang move on over the years - mainly Tom Lockyer, Ellis, others. Seems from social media he was close to Tom Nichols and Matty T who whilst not a Rovers player for the last few years has still lived local playing for the red lot.

Typical Gaschat, slag a player off when he leaves, but if he goes on to be a success then question why the management ever let him leave i.e. Ryan Broom recently. Seems a good move all round to me, BG clearly doesn't seem to rate him and OC probably needs a new challenge, you only have to look at some of our recent signings, JCH, Ogogo etc to see that a move can work wonders. The issue now is whether BG can sign a better replacement.

OC stats for last season …
Ranked 16th for shots taken among all L1 midfielders at an average of 1.65 efforts on goal per 90 minutes 1 goal for the season - Ranked 90th in the division. Chance / conversion rate - Expected goal from every 2.47 shots on goal Passing ranked 104th with average of 29 completed passes a game @73.5% Offensive duels success rate 40.5% - Defensive success rate 52% - Ranked 92nd
If we cant find better then we are in real trouble - Nice Bristol Lad but sorry he was nowhere near good enough.
