But we still lost. We had bright spells in games under BG last season but we were still getting beat every week. ffs give him 10 games before you throw the towell in. And, again, I was making the point that our performance against Cardiff was much better than today's Remember when we were going to sign Towell?

We need a new striker this week - either the bloke we are supposedly close to signs or we need to move on. I can just about take us losing if we have had a real go .... but once again under Garner we looked clueless and toothless. Mick Mills summed us up .... " Bristol Rovers look a bottom of the table team, you cannot win games by not replacing your proven goal scorer" Garner needs a confidence boosting win on Tuesday night - lose like this again and we are royally set up to fail under him this season. Ya I seen our proven goal scorer got a hat full today Mr Mills Just saying 🤔

What I will say is that a lot of that Ipswich team have been playing with each other for a while now, they've only made a couple of signings this summer so far. For us, 5 of those starting today were new signings, JVS isn't the regular keeper and even Hargreaves and JML haven't been with the squad all that long. It will take time for them to get use to how each other plays and their roles and responsibilities under Garner's new system. Expected us to be a lot better today but I think this is something worth keeping in mind. Yep, good observation that.

Shocking - very few positives to take from that.
We were outfought and outmuscled all over the pitch, and that back three was an absolute car crash all game. Never have I seen a Rovers side get sliced open so consistently by one long ball time & time again.
Got to give this new squad time to settle down and get to know each others game etc, but a big improvement needed on today moving forward.
Hopefully those new attackers aren’t far away.

I remember fans on here being like this towards DC as well. Losing 9 out of his first 11 games in charge, and getting beat by Altringham & Braintree. It's a fickle world. Possibly unfair on DC that, but some fans would have expected us to boss the conference so bad results early on couldn’t be tolerated. With Garner he’s had a fair wedge of games now. Nobody is criticising him for losing a one off cup game away to Ipswich - the criticism is because this is another game in a long sequence of defeats. Garner didn’t rock up in pre-season. No, but like DC he had to take over a squad that wasn't his, through no fault of his own. BG like DC has gone through a complete overhaul of a squad and brought his own players in. Even when we were towards the top of the league, getting results under Coughlan, the majority were moaning. The criticism is a long line of moaning whether we win, lose or draw, whether it's DC, Coughlan or BG, it's a never ending cycle of meltdowns regardless

People were raving about the signings we made and us playing Cardiff off the pitch. Yet again we have sold our top scorer and are struggling to find a suitable replacement. It’s like bloody Groundhog Day following Rovers. Fingers crossed the players can start to click once the league starts, but we need a decent striker.

Dont be daft ~ not with this team Some issues are agnostic to the team though- one classic example is that we typically got worse after half time. I didn’t see the game today but it seems from what others are saying we were even more inept in the second half today, apart from Ayunga having something of a positive impact. It just shows how bad we were if some feel Ayunga had a positive impact. Apart from JVS who had a reasonable game I didn’t see too many positives or improvement from the team that finished last season. The back line were slow, caught out of position, little bite or creativity in midfield and the attack totally sterile. Let’s hope we can manage a win on Tuesday - or total meltdown I fear.

I’ve just had a look at the Peterborough forum. Their match thread has about 5 comments on it and at worst they appear mildly disappointed!
I know we weren’t very good today, but perhaps we should temper our disappointment and look to the next game.

8 new signings and a couple more on the way,we basically have a whole new team so it will take time for players to settle. Yes we were too lightweight today and allowed simple balls into our box but it makes me laugh reading this forum as one week we will walk the league and the next week we are in real trouble! BG has a terrible win record for us I know but he does now have his own players so he needs time before people say he has 10 games to save his job.KTF

They just got d*cked 3-0 by a team who were 2 leagues below them until a month or so ago. Sh*t result and a terrible 2nd half, but let's just move on, it's only the Carabao Cup.

Ayunga actually caused some worry in the backline of Ipswich which untill he came on was a stroll in the park. He needs to play as a front two jml and Nicholson were too far away from him for his ball winning to have any effect. 343 so far does not work Ipswich carved it open many times and their goals went unchallenged.
Nicholson looked like he could be a good player if things dont go down the pan and confidence is destroyed. Westbrook looks a good player. Grant was pretty anonymous Leahy did ok but little needs to show why he played at championship level. Kilgour was the pick of the back 3 . The other two didnt dominate at all. Corners at both ends looked very poor. Team needs a bit of steel and drive. They all seemed a bit like nice players on the training pitch.

No meltdown from me if we lose in this crap fest of a cup game, although confidence is important moving into the league campaign. What concerns me is how have we ended up starting the campaign with such a limp strike force? Looking at the team sheet today with 2 wingers and a midfielder up top.... woeful. Hard to believe BG didn’t have faith in one striker on the books to start today’s game. Big decision by the club needs to be made in securing a decent striker, or else Garner will be looking for a new job by Xmas.

FOR SALE
Samsung TV... Excellent picture quality and smashing soundbar!!
However misses moments in football matches - Missed 4 of the 5 clear chances Garner said we had today...
I don't get what he thinks he sees that clearly wasn't there.
On a positive - New striker in before Sunderland ... Hopefully!!

Dont say much about his managerial skills.if he can only win a game with the players he signed and needed 30 matches to get it right with them. Rules himself out of a large chunk of the marketplace in the future if that's the case.god help us if he ever got the england gig on that basis

For the over reaction and meltdown. It's one game against a team that I expect to be up there. Peformance not result. It was a continuation of the sh** show from last season under BG. It's still one game and we always start poorly. We had the same last season after the Blackpool game. People were not happy when GC left though. Just saying it's way too early to have a meltdown. On here it seems every time we win we are going up, every time we lose, we are going down 😂. Not many are in between and can see past the last game. I know last year we were rubbish under him. But he didn't have his side. It's time to start a fresh and judge from now. Not a good start, but too early for the reaction.

It may be a Cup game but we probably had our first team out there? Maybe Upson and Hare will start the next one. Apart from a few runs by JML and some by Nicholson, there was no real penetration at all. Too weak everywhere. Apart from JVS, Westbrook stood out as he tried to create things. Little is not good enough for us, with respect to him. I have said this from the moment he started playing for us. He is not a right back; if anything he should play further up the pitch. Kilgour, Hare and Rodman on right hand side makes much more sense? Baldwin looked weak and both him and Kilgour were quickly and effectively pressed by Ipswich and gave the ball away far too cheaply. Our distribution to midfield was terrible; some sloppy passes. Midfield was not effective in stopping Ipswich; too many holes and they just walked past us. Hargreaves had a lot of the ball in first half but lost most of them. JML tried his best and when Ayunga came on, there was some inkling of them getting to play together. Not enough of a quality service to them. Sad to say but hoof ball would probably have been more effective. 3 at the back does not work especially away or against a smooth, flowing team like Ipswich. And there are plenty of teams in L1 that play like them who will carve us open. We also lost the ball far too easily. Ipswich looked like they played within themself, kept good possession and their defence was never really troubled. Their goalie only had 1 real save to make? Upson in middle may help but he needs someone with him as a stopper like Ogogo? Lets see what Walsall game brings but the big test will be Sunderland away.
