. I don’t think there was much in the first half, for the 2nd game running to wasted a great chance early on we practically had a 3 on 1 and messed it up. I can’t recall Anssi making any last ditch saves, they had some better chances 2nd half but we were chasing and heads were down. Call me a fool but I will have money on us getting a win next week. I thought last week we were improving and I thought soon we will win and I think soon we still will unless all our confidence is drained from us. Despite the result I was more angry at his interview. Politicians get away with it because we don't see what goes on, but with football it's different and like today I feel it insults our intelligence tbh. If last week was an improvement then my word our expectations have been lowered. We have been shocking in all of our competitive games so far. The 1-1 at Sunderland was an absolute robbery.

no , but I think we have to acknowledge that the performer of a referee and the decisions he makes can have an impact on the result. We might have won at Sunderland if they had gone down to 10 men, the result today may have been different if we had gone in at half time 1-1. straw clutching. Funny enough. ref never gets the blame for a win since when has anyone been blamed for a win, doesn’t make sense. I think we have all seen decisions go our way which we thought were a wrong. We take them but usually with the acknowledgement that ‘we got away with that one’ or ‘that was a bit soft but we’ll take it.

I'm not defending BG here, but 49 people voted we'd lose this game, so they can't really say much to criticise can they? I mean, they got what they expected, so can't be disappointed 🤷 Why not? I predicted a 1-0 defeat and we're getting hammered 4-1. I was too optimistic. 😀😀 Yes. I said 1-1 so just imagine how silly I feel. UTG!

dont think anyone said the first three league games don't count ? Sure they did. We were not allowed to count last season. Or the cup games. Or the first 3 games because they were difficult. This season doesnt start until next week. Or the week after that.

I’ve been found guilty lately of wanting the manager to be given more time and believing that he could turn this around. I think I have finally come to the realisation that I’ve been listening to my heart rather than my head. I always thought we would of been lucky to take many points from the opening 3 games but had the hope that what looks like an easier October would be where we would pick up a few wins. Well the first 3 games have gone and we didn’t pick up many points like I was expecting but that doesn’t take away from the fact the football has been shocking and it really looks like we are only heading in one direction on the pitch. BG just doesn’t seem to be able to get his team playing the way he wants or even get them motivated to put in a performance. Today was a prime example of us not even showing the desire to put a shift in. No passion, no desire, no running themselves into the ground and certainly no clue as to what they are supposed to be doing. These are the minimum required attributes I want to see from any player pulling on the quarters and today I don’t think anyone even broke into a sweat and it’s really disappointing to see. Some people will still be clinging on to the fact we have what would seem to be a couple of easier fixtures coming up, but after today, and I genuinely believe this, that Northampton will give us a proper beating this Saturday. Everything I have seen from us so far this season, and what I have seen from Northampton, they will play with their long ball, physical, style of football and I really fear we will just crumble. I think the writing really will be on the wall then

I don't think any of us blamed the RESULT on the ref. How can he grow in character or as a manager if he doesn't look at himself enough? no , but I think we have to acknowledge that the performer of a referee and the decisions he makes can have an impact on the result. We might have won at Sunderland if they had gone down to 10 men, the result today may have been different if we had gone in at half time 1-1. I think he was still fuming about the Sunderland game and brought that in to today’s game / post match interview . Unprofessional if that’s the case but also very human behaviour. Let’s face it he’s not a manager so these kind of things are going to happen.

All the posters who told everyone we had made lots of great signings including better centre-backs are total k**b heads and they should own up to their folly of assuming for some unknown reason for bigging up our signings. Tommy widdrington mocked graham coughlan for requesting a type of player which is hard to find these days in a recent interview and enthused about ben garners required recruitment. People taking the p**s about wigan appointing john sheridan but he is a real football man and would probably throw garner out of the dressing room on his backside as would coughlan of course. Ehmer, baldwin and harries should watch videos of tom lockyer and tony craig so they can learn all about defending.

Every game under BG seems the same. Woeful at both ends of the pitch.
Our defence is a shambles. We could have easily shipped 6 or 7 today if Donny strikers had taken some glorious chances in the second half. All 4 equally culpable.
Midfield, as in every other game, offer no protection to the back 4 and no drive or creativity going forward. We had a few opportunities to break but Westbrooke inexplicably slowed the game down and the chance was gone. None of them can tackle meaning we lose all the 50/50's. I said it last week and I've seen nothing to change my mind, although technically gifted this is one of the worst midfields I've seen at Rovers in 40 years. Whether one quality signing could make a difference and help the others, I don't know.
Hanlan works hard and shows flashes of quality but has no support. JML and Daly offered very little today.
Were we rubbish for the entire 101 minutes? No, we had a few spells in the game where we did okay but you need to perform from the first minute to the last, defend properly and have a threat going forward if you're ever going to win. Unfortunately we failed on all 3.

So, i have taken a few days to consider my thoughts and try to wrack my head around that performance. I am in the rose tinter camp and probably will always have an outlook like this as I see or try to see the good in things/people/life.
I wasn't able to watch the game, but did check in on commentary and watched the highlights and at first it seemed like we might have been having a real go at donny, only to conceed 2 in pretty quick succession. Oh gawd i thought, then we got one back which I thought might have us kick on a bit, with belief, but alas another game where we condeeded 20 shots and a big loss as more of them converted this time around.
My rose tinted glasses have been knocked from my head and it's taking me a long aging stretch down to pick them back up and place them back on my head. I know I will, just need something to grab hold of in terms of hope... Do i add some hope that BG switched to a back 4 after many of us wanted this.. or do we immediately feel that this was thrust upon us as all RWB players are injured or unfit.
I add some hope into the next group of fixtures because they are on paper easier... but do we get an easy fixture this term? I ask myself now... what would I do if I were BG and wanted to stay and sort this mess out. Well I think, like others its time to evolve and get the basics right and the confidence back. We need someone who can tackle to protect the defense, from what I saw (which wasn't much on the highlights) was that Grant doesn't appear to fill that tough tackling ball winning DM that I had hoped he would be. Maybe his is a pattern interrupt player and if you say that he is doing that job well, then great. We still need to turn that ball over and put some tackles in, big tackles.
I am glad the new lad Hanlan is seeming to be a good signing and hopefully will continue to grow for us. I would like to see both him and Ayunga play together more. Ayunga looks strong and has carved out some half decent chances for himself (quite similar to what JCH used to do) and when we play that lump ball (despite having our defenders back inside our own 18yrd box) at least we have a big, strong player there to compete and Hanlan to pick up the loose balls / flick ons etc.
I do want to see a successful Garnerball and I feel our goal vs donny this week is evidence of what Garnerball can produce, lay off by Leahy and a lovely weighted pass to find his burst forward and a well taken goal. Its that which gives me hope, less than 10 seconds from the first pass to the back of the net. Garnerball can succeed but, and its a big BUT. We need the basics right first before we can play this way.
I am sure that each week we try to eliminate mistakes in training and work on the attacking threat but the balance is just off at the minute/loooong minute.
I am a rose tinter, but i am worried, first time i have been worried that the whole project is starting to unravel. I want to believe, I need to believe, I want to have hope, but I am realistic that my hopes are starting to fade, It is, as i have been reminded, only 3 games into THIS season, so I will start to gain my positive vibes , look out for updates in the press / Rovers website and no doubt dream of a Garnerball performance against the cobblers this Saturday. Will I get my elation at 5pm or will I put the rose tinted glasses down and rub my weary eyes? We just don't know what is going to happen... and that uncertainty, gives me hope. Blind Hope. C'mon Gas! #GoodnightIrene

Interestingly easier on paper, yet all of them are above us in the league at this current moment!

Ah for sure, a nice bit of friendly disagreeing is healthy bud. For me, right now, It's one where I start to understand a little bit more why the 'Garner out' shouts are so loud and passionate. I wasn't able to follow as closely last year what was happening and just jumped onto the fact that the players BG inherited were not his players and were brought in and schooled to be a big solid defensive unit. BG came in to change the whole club which seems to have been going well off the pitch, but as I am very aware of, the results and performances have been dire for a long time. My hope, (again with the hope) is that sitting there at the bottom of the league in a sorry state will draw all eyes on us, the players certainly will not want to be there and the board wont tolerate that one bit. I voted for 8 more games but I would imagine that the board has eyes and ears all over and will take action if the league position or performance on the pitch are not significantly changed within 2-3 games. The tricky part is that we are so invested into this new club philosophy element but anything can change in football very rapidly, was it Watford that had 2/3 managers in one season?

Yes indeed, and the chop and changing philosophy isn't always healthy.
I've just invested my time and money travelling and really wishing it was all different. BG has been cheered and applauded on pitches home and especially away....the very same in away ends applaud him, quite often weren't there at the end!
Also, BG has had some exceptional luck disguised as bad luck! (?) Awful what happened early in his tenure with regards to his family...but without being unkind, the timing was perfect as pressure was starting to build and some in my circle of friends at first thought it was a ruse. But it did buy him time when family health recovered.
Covid was a convenient time as after a sublime win v aspiring Sunderland, we were due to play Ipswich (oh the irony, this season). And even though this horrible debacle of Spring Summer pandemic, again the timing was perfect because many of his signings in the transfer window weren't performing.
God bless Wael family for his dad's passing. I'm sure some of the back room staff reshuffle (mainly the emancipation of Hanni) has helped BG in his recruitment in this window!? What a horrible thing for a family to go through, losing a loved one. After some time, it appears some funds have been released (maybe they were going to be in any case? Who knows?) which had a fresh optimism in the club and fanbase in close season.
BG has rode his luck on the back of some very unfortunate events. He's been given more than his fair share, even to the point of knocking off poor GNI1883 glasses off...
There's still a chance to change. My only fear is frying pan and fire....but at this precise time, the fire looks more appealing to me!

C'mon Gas! #GoodnightIrene Nice post - that’s pretty much where I am! And agree about sticking Hanlan & Ayunga up top together. We’re giving opposition defences the easiest game of their lives atm. Let’s get two big, strong, quick strikers upfront, get the ball forward to them quicker & get players in and around them to offer support. It doesn’t have to be hoofball, just more purposeful passing. Currently we’re so slow and methodical in possession that the opposition get organised behind the ball & we’re left trying to play through their entire team.
