Tony Pulis manger Garner his assistant You couldn’t get 2 more conflicting styles! Can you imagine the coaching? Pulis: Lads get it in the box, crosses, aim for the big man, win the second ball, big bruiser in midfield and no-nonsense defending... Garner: but but but but hold on, nice 5 yard passes, play out from the back, fluid front three, technical ability over brawn.... Can’t see that one working!

I hope BG can still sort things out but it is looking less likely with every game. I would like us to promote from within, it worked with DC unfortunately he had little time to turn things around to avoid relegation but did get us two promotions , GC took over from him and kept us up and then took us to fourth in the table.Stewart Campbell was another who improved the team but was replaced by Buckle, David Williams also did a good job for us, there are a few that struggled when promoted from within but no to many. I think Lee Mansell as manager and perhaps bring Tony Craig back as assistant/ defensive coach we certainly don't have anything to loose by doing this.

I think the season will be suspended in the next few weeks and will most likely be declared null : void whatever it’s called. It was fair enough how they ended it last season we were two thirds through but I don’t think we’ll get that far this season. Strange times. It's actually a very good point. There is a very real possibility this season will be cut short. Not definite of course - but a chance no doubt. If that's the case, it's even more important we start getting points on the board immediately. It's all good and well thinking "we might start badly but finish strongly" - but there's every chance the season could be cut short and decided once more on PPG. We need to start getting points ASAP. Does anyone know the threshold at which PPG becomes applicable? I guess at least half the season would need to have been played?

Would want Garner staying. If he goes, he goes in all capacities.

I think this is a hypothetical thread because WAQ is behind the Garner philosophy and he is perfectly safe until Xmas, perhaps for the season even if we’re relegated. However, in the spirit of this thread I would suggest Paul Cook and the chap at Newport would be worth considering. Don’t think anything will happen but just saying. Paul Cook has proved his ability and he left Pompey to go north. He’ll get a Championship club in the north or possibly a top League 1 in the north. It would be a good appointment but I get the impression he’ll stay up there. UTG!

The stupidity of people on this forum beggars belief. Three games in, against sides in the top six, and fans calling for the manager’s head. You’re an embarrassment and don’t deserve to support Rovers. 2 wins in 24 games is more embarrassing in my opinion. We are watching a car crash in slow motion. I support Rovers but I don’t support Garner taking us back to League Two. People don’t seem to realise that a losing run carries through seasons and needs to be taken into account. Look at our messiah that is DC. Had an awful run the last 15 games of the previous season before he left, had a terrible pre season and that carried us through into the season he left when we were dire. I don’t think L1 is ready or ever will be ready for garnerball. The players in this league are usually the ones that will never make it to the prem, half would never cut it in the championship and the ones that do go up there come back down in a year or 2. The intensity and technical ability together with the vision between those leagues and L1 is massive.

Garner has said he wants to play fast, possession-based, mobile football. I’ve no problem with that. It just appears that BG is unable to translate training onto a match, nor is he able to inspire players to play that way. Until he can do those things and get some wins the pressure will continue. If he can’t get wins then he should and will get sacked. To answer the OP about the new manager: Appoint Hargreaves and Mans or Maher as caretakers and this time do a proper recruitment exercise. Istr Garner was in place very quickly and I don’t know if it was planned even before GC had gone or very soon after. I just hope the process isn’t rushed. Get it right rather than do it quickly. UTG!

Often good managers will also realise that possession based football does not work when the chips are down. When confidence levels are low, the best idea is to go back to basics, batten down the hatches and grind out some points, before gradually shifting back to the passing game once confidence levels rise again. If Garner stays, and continues to proceed with the playing out from the back, then I predict that we will continue to ship sloppy goals and get comfortably beaten.

Oh we will continue to play from that back as that's all he knows and will be too proud/stubborn to change it now
