More of an impact sub for the last 15 mins or so, we do seem to be lacking another striker, although perhaps we need to move KB or AO, or both, off the wage bill before we can bring in another striker. Game wise I thought we most out played a strong Oxford side tonight, BG seems to be finally getting the players to play the football he wants them to play.  You can't be a striker and an impact sub?

I get it! It's just like bargain hunt, we don't have losers, just winners and runners up! Well, no. Because in Bargain Hunt if they don't win they don't get awarded anything that might help them going forward in the competition because there isn't any going forward in the competition they just go home I think. Whereas this is a group stage of a football trophy where you accrue points (differing amounts for different outcomes - zero if you lose, one for a draw, three for a win and one for winning a penalty shootout following a draw) and that can be helpful when those points get added up at the end because it might mean you go through to the next round. Do you play scrabble but complain all the way through that you want to be the hat or the little dog? Isn't that monopoly?

I thought we were very good tonight. Probably the best this season and with 9? changes. Looking at the bigger picture it's a much improved performance happy with that as it's a work in progress. Ideally I would have liked to see more made of the good crosses into the box. At one point BG was laughing with the ref...WOW

Strange that JML didn’t play on Saturday and not in the squad tonight?

I enjoyed it this evening. We played well and you can see improvements regarding the players positions and work rate. We do need an experienced forward, not only to score goals but to also help our young forward line, who are still learning their art. Keep the faith Gasheads, the last two performances have shown we are in for a season of hope and not gloom.

Different circumstances. The Wembley match wasn't played for points. Finished a draw but we won the prize of promotion, Grimsby didn't. Tonight, we gain a point for drawing the match. Oxford gained a point for drawing the match, and an extra point for winning the penalty shootout. It’s baffling how hard that is for some to understand. We lost the game on penalties that is how the game was decided. We got a consolation point for being level after 90 minutes. They have 2 points we have 1 like I said in the first place dress it up anyway you want we lost the game.

I thought that was a very entertaining game. I think we played well tonight and really should of won the game after 90 minutes. Mehew impressed me again and I think we could have a good player on our hands. I do feel a little frustrated that we have brought a player in on loan who seems very similar to Mehew and having him on loan will possibly mean Mehew’s game time will be hampered this season. Maybe the management feel he isn’t quite ready for competitive first team action just yet. Does look promising though. I can see people’s point on that it shows we need more goal scoring options up front. I think an experienced striker would suit us best and could also help develop the young players we have here. Easter type player would be good. Whilst I don’t think Kilgour did much wrong tonight I do also feel he is lacking in some of the confidence he showed last season. It could be down to the fact he is still a young man with a lot still to learn in the game which we forget due to his performances last season. Maybe some time out of the team will do him good. We know how good he can be so I don’t want to be overly critical and hopefully a little rest can get him back to his best. Kilgour by my reckoning is missing the guy alongside who organised him and was his mentor, Millwall Tone.

The record books will show a draw between the two sides. The penalty shoot out in the rules of the competition are to decide who earns a bonus point. Nothing more or less.

It ain’t a draw it ain’t a loss but it certainly isn’t a win. It’s half way between a loss and a draw. No point arguing about the semantics of it. The important thing is we didn’t get that extra point so we have to work that much harder against the Chelsea Under 21s. I thought we were Chelsea U21s?

Decent performance from a young Rovers side, if Leahy converted his penalty it would have been a deserved victory. Thought Hargreaves & Walker were outstanding & Mehew took his goal well. Shame Ayunga is injured as tonight showed how lightweight we are in the striking department, not sure about Daley works hard but no end product. Because of the strange points system of this competition we are still able to qualify if we beat Chelsea u21 over 90 minutes & get 3 points as the 2 teams above us have to play each other.

I'm sure Alfie will have a strong season.

So historically many of you have said it would not be so bad having BG if you could see progress on the pitch / performances. Based on that, can we take the positives from Saturday and tonight that we are now starting to move in the right direction in finding our identity or are you still of the opinion that we are still poor?

Didn't watch the game, really not bothered by the stupid trophy.
Didn't realise it was considered so important to so many though. Where have these fans been the last few seasons?
Comparing the EFL Cup to a play off final ffs have a word 😂

I have had mixed opinions during the start of this season, I wanted BG to be given more time and I also came to a point where I wanted us to make a change. While I argued it wasn’t completely fair to judge BG after 3 poor games I also have to be of the opinion that we can’t say all is well after 2 good performances. We have to show some consistency now and really take the positives from the last 2 games and keep showing signs of progress before we can say wether it will work out or not
