I see we got the usual 'in-depth' analysis on the Quest EFL show.

The most encouraging performance so far this season and one of the best since BG took charge, along with our win over Sunderland pre lockdown.
You can always nitpick and yes there were poor mistakes which led to their goal and we surrendered possession far to easily against 10 men for the final 8+7 minutes after the sending off but overall much improved.
Jaakkola had very little to do but made an important block in the first half. Defence generally sound but will be disappointed with the free kick that led to the goal. Midfield good for the most part but didn't manage to retain possession to help us see the game out when they went down to 10. Both strikers on the score sheet in the same game for the first time and both worked hard and deserved their goal.
We've got a great chance of keeping the run going against second from bottom Burton next Saturday. Lets hope this is the start of an upturn in form and BG proves me and many others wrong.

I see we got the usual 'in-depth' analysis on the Quest EFL show. Yes, but now Murray hasn’t got Ainsworth to fawn over he’s clearly making his mind up as to who will be his favourite now. My moneys on Phil Parkinson but who cares? We won that’s all that matters. UTG

Loved the analysis though - Pompey were lucky and Dons deserved more. Reference to Jackett under pressure. Suddenly made sense.

Big shout out to the defence today, the blocks & clearances from our penalty area were outstanding. For all the possession Lincoln had I can only recall Jaakola having to make 1save due to defence in front of him. Massive improvement from the last away match at Donny & great to see in Hanlon we have found a striker who causes so many problems to the opposition back line utg I said to my son that the defence were playing like a Coughlan side during the 2nd half.

You might never know if we will have a 15/20 goals a season striker or natural finisher as they keep being fouled before they have a chance to score. Absolutely, but we don’t live in a world where guaranteed pens are always given. It’s simply the way it is that refs often bottle penalties because they can materially significantly affect the game. Put it another way, if you were to look at the penalty market for a game with the bookies the price for a penalty to be awarded in a game is usually around 4/1, that’s quite a big price considering Gaschat seems to think they are awarded every time there is a foul in the box. The odds are that high because penalties are uncommon and we’ve had something like 4 in 5 games and we have needed every one of those pens to get a result. It’s not negativity, it’s probability. We need to score goals from open play. How many have we scored from open play in 5 league games? Of those how many have our strikers scored? Some interesting questions there. Like I say I’m not convinced going forward that Daly, Ayunga and Hanlan have got a striker’s instinct to get enough goals between them even with the rest of the team chipping in. Time will tell though, happy for this to be bounced back to the top if we progress to free scoring football. I think Hanlan will win us a fair few pens this season. Not because he’s a diver, but because he runs with the ball close to his feet and under close control. He also has amazing body strength, just like Barry Hayles. He is therefore difficult to knock or lean off the ball. Defenders will get frightened/ frustrated and foul him. Ergo pens will follow. When he went off yesterday the Lincoln commentators, who I thought were excellent, said that’s just what you want from your striker. He won a penalty and got his centre half booked. Not long after his centre half got another booking and was sent off. I hope we keep hold of Hanlon. Wael should get him and Tutonda in the office and sign them on better and longer terms. That way, when they’re sold, we’ll get a lot more for them.

Lincoln fan comments on the game.
1. After 45 seasons I should know better. It’s the expectation that gets you as an Imp. We have good wins and you then start to get ahead of yourself and start thinking about the away trips to Derby and Sheffield Wednesday next season and hope that we are allowed in. In those 45 seasons, there have been some excellent highs and there have been a very large number of lows. The only consistent has been that you come to expect a positive result, when in all honesty you don’t really deserve it. When the season’s fixtures were announced I thought we’d be doing pretty well to have managed 5 points up to and including the Blackpool game. So what does the team manage? Only four wins on the bounce and yet again I find myself dreaming of possibilities. Every time as an Imp you just know that there will be that game which brings you back down to earth. I really should look at history and know not to get ahead of things.
2. There are some smart teams in this league. Rovers arguably out Lincolned us today. They played pretty much as we had in previous matches and came out deservedly on top. I believe that this was the league match where we had the most possession so far yet they played to their strengths and matched us. Our great start will have made other clubs pay that little bit more attention to us and how to nullify our play. It will be interesting to see how we find the keys to unlock such problems as we go forward.
3. Last season it was our home form which kept us out of the relegation spots. This season I think it may well be our away form which will keep our heads swimming pretty high in the table. We are a counter-attacking team and are better when the opposition goes for it. The wins against Oxford and Charlton were matches against teams who came for three points. Rovers would have settled for one and put their mass banks of defenders in the way for the majority of the game. We will have a number of teams doing this from here on in at our home games and without the 9,000+ supporters urging the team on, it just might be our home matches against the ‘minnows’ of this league will be a frustrating watch.

That Lincoln fan seems to be getting ahead of himself, as Lincoln are only ever going to be a mid table L1 side at best, playing budget wise.

I see we got the usual 'in-depth' analysis on the Quest EFL show. Yes, what is going on there? It was like 'oh yes, Bristol Rovers exist - moving on'. Has spent more time talking about Devon in the last few shows after the gaffe about Plymouth being in Cornwall. To be fair, we have always had a good say on Quest especially when Holloway (regular guest) and DC have guested there. I think this show is hosted very well compared to some of the BBC and other channels presentations. It would be nice to get a channel that, on a weekly basis, provided updates and discussed, non-Premier League matters and events. Maybe Bury and Wigan and ..... may not then have happened?

Top Man! Did Burton's not go bust? Are you taking the biscuit? PS Some fans were calling on Clough for our manager? Haha! Top Man, indeed....think I bought a tie from there once to get into Papillons....then the bouncer whom shall remain nameless (P) refused me entry. Again. Thinking both TM & B are gone now? Yes, I think Clough is very investable. Methinks Pompey might have a foot in the door if they're looking for a replacement Jacket. Go to Burton's to replace your Jacket. Spot on?! If Pompey lose a few, they may indeed get a new jacket from Burtons?!!! PS I think Burton’s owned Top Man? PPS Our next game against them could be a tie?!!!! We always found them tough in last few seasons?

For the stato's out there, the usual excellent stuff is available below (shots/passes/tackles/heatmaps etc) Source:https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1486261/Live/England-League-One-2020-2021-Lincoln-City-Bristol-Rovers Loving our high number of interceptions and clearances... seems we are playing smart Dispossessed is a mild concern but the BRFC data team will know all about it. Loving it this season, much excitement UTG
