Considering he’s based in France, I highly doubt it Although, without wanting to make any assumptions about FG’s life, I can only assume you’re quite happy living in the most socialist country in Europe, considering you’re right wing? That’s what I dislike most about the hatred of a big welfare state- it’s so bloody hypocritical because the right wing are the first in line with their hand out when the going gets tough. They just hate that others are in the queue with them. On other forums I’ve seen posters who have previously slagged off those on benefits now crying in shock about how little you get because they lost their jobs in the pandemic. Some have even been brazen enough to demand that benefits are increased just for the duration of the pandemic- ie for as long as it’s convenient for them then they can go back to hating the very idea of it. A lot of right wingers have been bitten on the ass by the sort of lifestyle people who are stuck on benefits (or those on the NMW topped up by benefits) have been living and they don’t bloody like it when it’s their turn. You know, I'd love it if after all this is said and done it humbles us all. We have literally been handed a golden opportunity to reflect on the fragile nature of life, money, society, everything. We have, all of us together, rich and poor, been shown what real value looks like when the SHTF. Who really mattered? I'd love to think we would see that and reflect on how f**ked up it was to break the healthcare system, force austerity, exploit the essential workers who deliver our food, get us to work, stack the shelves and fix us up. How we all have to work together. Id love to think we will be humbled, but I know we won't. - Karl Marx 2020

Quite educational all this....
I always though a Marxist was someone who went into central Bristol and came home with a dodgy shirt/tie combo and a £10 meal deal....

Why would people who believe in socialism refuse socialism? You’re the one who has got the problem with it. The question is would/did YOU refuse the furlough scheme? Considering your distaste for state aid for those in need you should have done. France a socialist country...Do me a favour. Are you telling me theres no privately owned businesses in France. In fact they fully support and encourage it.In fact name 3 or 4 countries in the world that you class as socialist that follow 100% of your socialist principles.

My daughter in law is French and she despises that about her own country. She agrees with me that this is the complete antithesis of a free market economy.

For the second time I have to justify why I live in France (look in the government thread). OK for the last time, and I won't apologise for my finances. Prior to 2002 I had the foresight to take out a stand alone critical illness policy. Also since the 80s when I purchased my first property I added critical illness to my mortgage endowment policies. In 2002 I was diagnosed with cancer. Three months later after 2 operations and a dose of MRSA and chemo I returned to work. In 2003 with the critical illness monies along with money my wife received for injuries in car crash (not her fault an articulated lorry tried to do a u turn in front of her) we bought the house in France as a holiday home. Stress at work was taking its toll on my health and at a six monthly check up in 2007 my oncologist in his words said " you need to change your life style, I've cured you once and can't guarantee it a second time. If it comes back I could only give you 6-12 months with your current life style.". When we came out of that appointment my wife said we were selling up and moving to France. At the time we lived in Middlesex and I'm not ashamed to say the house had gone up in value and the endowments cleared the vast amount of our mortgage meaning we could live in France on the interest (not now) from the equity we had in the house. Since living in France, 13 years now, we have never claimed or received €1 in benefits from the state. That is the reason we live in France for a better healthier life style. I'm so sorry if all that offends anyone!

Well, from a personal standpoint it would be deeply hypocritical of me to make those comments, having spent nearly two decades in other countries during my working life. But, for me, I cannot advocate free movement (which I do) and then criticise those that partake. What is hypocritical is for those that have partaken to then argue against it.

Yep, they’ve not only demonised the poor but also put rules in place to remove their freedom of movement. You’d think they would be handing out free vouchers at Calais to get the lowly paid scum to sod off wouldn’t you? But of course the truth is that Tory ideology is nothing without poor people because they are foundation block of an ‘aspirational society’. Poor people have to exist to do the jobs that the average Tory voter needs but would never dream of doing.

I'm so sorry if all that offends anyone! Never understood why people have to explain themselves over their lifestyle choices, but hey ho. What is more interesting for me, especially given your adulation for Thatcher France, is why living in France is a "better, healthier lifestyle" Because we live in Central France in the Livradois/Forez mountains at an altitude just under that of Scarfell Pike in England. We have clean clear mountain air to breathe no Central London fumes that I endured every day. I went 5 years with out so much as a sniffle yet in London just catching the common cold laid me up for a week and could be 4/5 times a year. So that's the healthier part. Our life style is such that my wife works through choice not because she has to (sorry again if that offends anyone). We can travel (not at moment) when we want to. We enjoy nice holidays (not luxury holidays before anyone jumps down my throat) such as trekking in the Himalayas staying in the most basic accommodation . All this is a healthier a better lifestyle that we wouldn't enjoy in England if I hadn't been sick.

Marx is an antidote to expoititive capitalism.
Marx was in awe of the way capitalism flourished as an economic system, but saw that the excesses of capital meant that the majority of people are exploited and kept poor, in order for the wealthy class to thrive.
Marxs theory led to Russia and China lifting the masses out of poverty. Which is why he is still relevant today.
So few people have read Capital, most just buy in to cold war propaganda as it suits the capitalist narrative.

But in a general sense loss of freedom of movement is another aspect of the boomer generation taking advantage of the land of milk and honey created by post war investment in housing and infrastructure and then pulling the ladder up after them and voting to deny the same opportunities to their kids. Francegas’s wife says that everyone just has to work hard but this article would disagree: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.ft.com/content/81343d9e-187b-11e8-9e9c-25c814761640And then from that, to this: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54662485Never mind, I’m sure the Tories will put the youth ahead of the boomer generation in the wake of this pandemic and provide lots of inspiring training schemes to insulate them from Brexit and help them get on the housing ladder. I mean the feckless wasters just have to work a bit harder right?

The thing is we are still affected by what ever government is in power by way of pensions, interest rates, FTSE performance etc. Just because we live abroad there are still various UK taxes that we are subject to. We still have a right to vote in the UK(for a max of 15 years) abroad. So yes we all have a right to a say how the UK is run.

Suggest you calm down and re-read my post as you’ve sent 2 posts to this. I have never said anything about privately owned businesses in France, you’ve just made that up yourself. So no, I am not telling you that. I also do not need to list any countries that follow 100% ‘of my socialist values’ - seeming as I have never claimed that I am a socialist, nor that there are any countries that follow 100% socialism. I also did not ask, nor need your justification of why you live in France. I have seen your other post, I’m fully aware of your situation and I do not believe that anyone here needs to justify a reasoning. The point I was saying, if you read my post again, is that France is probably one of the most socialist countries in Europe, perhaps that’s changed, but no doubt you’re living and enjoying life in a left country, whilst supporting and voting right values. I find this odd. I can only assume that you enjoy living in the left sided country - so I find it strange that someone would then vote for right wing, when they’ve already admitted their life is much better and healthier, without that lifestyle. That is my point, nothing else. Apologies for any confusion.
