What evidence do you have that we would not pay him the going rate ?
He obviously wanted to go to a Championship team as if it was just about money I am sure he could have found plenty of L1 teams to pay him more cash. I don't doubt he was being paid very good money with us, probably more than anyone else in the team.
None of us have any problem with him leaving for more money and none of us said he did not score a lot of valuable goals for us.
In the end he allowed himself to go to 1982 ltd, in a dodgy deal where someone told them the amount of his release clause, which they bid on transfer deadline day - you can see why there is plenty of hate directed at him.
I like to think he is a bit thick and was manipulated by his agent and 1982 but perhaps I am giving him too much credit.
End of the day he got paid plenty by them, never made it at a higher level and now finds himself back at our level. No doubt he is not earning the same as he was at Ashton and I suspect is now on a similar amount as he was with us.
To the Oxford fans that love him, don't forget the "handshake deal" with them that he backed out of to stay with us, no doubt he will do the dirty on them again at some point.
Still think he would have bottled it in front of a crowd, just like he did at the Mem.

Oxford by their own fans admission were rusty and didn't play well today, but the thing is they didn't have to, and we made it far too easy for them.

I have taken heed of GGMI's special request and have taken it upon myself to relieve him of his duties for this game (albeit 4.5 hours early) I have never started a thread before, and I am not waiting up till midnight to start this one, so please take it easy on me. I have started this thread on the basis that I have never fancied our chances at the Kassam Stadium but have been there on a number of occasions and have only ever seen us win. Fingers crossed that my luck holds out and we get to see another famous victory. PS Another reason for starting this thread is that I have just taken receipt of a BJ "Special Hamper" and have already drunk my way through half of it!!!!!!! Bloody Jonah 😜

Sorry about the negativity but here goes:
This team of players has no pace or energy apart from Hanlan and Nicholson. Our attacks are largely slow and laborious. Players seem to stroll too much and there is no urgency when losing or attacking. Blackpool game probably an exception but not many more in recent games?
Midfield players who should be the most creative lack basic consistent basic skill like ball control, awareness, passing, heading and shooting. Westbrook was awful today and Grant seems to play backwards more than forwards when he has plenty of space and time. For L1 players, they are not good enough?
1-up does not work for us; too defensive especially when our defence is so weak. We looked much better when Ayunga came on to support Hanlan. If we can’t defend, then concentrate on quick long balls to the front ASAP.
We now seem to be conceding the first goal in all our games and playing catch up. Not helped by some very poor refereeing decisions.
Our triangular play near the touchline seems to be just about passing the ball to each other with no INTENT! The players get too close to each other and end up usually losing the ball without putting it into the box. For the last 2 seasons Hare and Leahy ran down the touchline and their only purpose seemed to be to cross the ball into the box at the FIRST opportunity. Forwards were aware of that and would try and get into the box as well. It worked!
When under attack after losing the ball, our players seem in no hurry to get back to defend properly. Also when marking we give the opposing numbers too much room. Loose balls just seem to end up with the other team because we are slow to react and just to be playing catch up.
New manager now seems to be playing the Garner way? We are not skilful enough to play it around at the back! Maybe he is limited by the choice of players he has but our starting formation is too defensive. Drastic changes need to be made in how we form up and play.
I haven’t seen a much worse combination of play and players for the last 4/5 seasons than we have now. No fluidity or flow; just disjointed. We played much better football when we were in the Conference! One of the worst set of midfield players with no heart and passion. That to me seems the critical factor that is lacking. In seasons gone, we had players who may not have been the best but who had heart and passion for the team and the club. Lines, Sinclair, Ollie, Sercombe, Craig, Lockyer, JCH, etc. Very few players have shown this so far bar Hanlan and Kilgour this season?
I don’t see much hope this season if we carry in like this. We are out of all the cups and struggling to stay away from the bottom 4. The hope and support of and for the club built up over the 2 promotions with a virtually unchanged core of players is slowly ebbing away, I feel? A club that looked to be going places is now heading in the opposite direction.

Another episode of Eastenders takes over the match thread! Probably a good job we aren’t at the games with some of the toxic stuff on here! No doubt we are poor and I’ve been saying all season the defence is as bad as I’ve seen in 35 years. For me Tis needs to pick his best back 4 and go back to 4-4-2 I dread to think how many formations we’ve tried in the last 2 seasons, and here we are now playing 5 at the back with neither Ehmer or Leahy as proper wing backs! Go back to basics v Posh Day Williams Ehmer Kilgour Leahy Rodman MCCormick Hargreaves Koiki Hanlan Ayunga 442 hasn’t really worked though has it. All Tisdales wins have come with 4231 Hanlan with three attacking players behind him we had width and balance. I know Sammy and oz are injured but we have players available to still play that formation but instead he’s given up the last two games by going 541 narrow. Frustrating.

Tisdale is now making the same kind of nonsensical decisions that MK & Exeter fans warned us of.
I don’t want him out but my god... give us a chance in games, Tis.

Sadly you don’t get the point, it’s time to stop living in the past and dragging up these silly vendettas from history and deal with our present and future, what ever that is. We lost Matty Taylor, we lost today, 1982ltd was 39 years ago ffs, it counts for nothing but today does...and I very much doubt our best player in the last 10 years has a clue what it feels like to bottle anything.

No I agree but we need 2 up top without Nicholson and Oz as we don’t have good enough to replace them when out. Agreed 4-2-3-1 is best with a fully fit squad but to me 4-4-2 would at least give us a shout.

Rodman, Kioki, Hargreaves and Ayunga are all National League standard players, at best, are you Barry Fry in disguise?

Now watching the Cheltenham / Man City game , now I know it’s a cup game but it’s great to see a lower team playing with some commitment and a will to compete for every ball, nothing like the shambles I watched earlier, we were embarrassing

UTG Re refs decisions, don't teams on the front foot tend to get decisions going their way, when we were winning game under PT I can't recall many of us complaining about ref'ing decisions, regardless we didn't get totally outplayed today because of the ref making the odd dodgy decision. Likewise all our players look useless under DC but mostly woke up when GC took over, the worry for us is the new manager "bounce" has come and well and truly gone. The only way out seems to be spend big on a good striker and also a creative CM, or get yet another manager in, the latter may well be a cheaper option?

Not watched today, but reading this thread it sounds like more of the same. What I see right now is team of individuals and too many of them not playing very well. There is no passion for the shirt, no togetherness and definitely no quality.
The gks, can't moan about them, never really had bad performances this season.
Our problems start with the defenders, mostly clueless, again no quality, poorly organised and no leadership...only one I would keep is Kilgour and that is sentimental as he is one of our own. We need another center back like Millwall Tone, bags of experience and a leader of men.
Now our midfield..the only players I rate are Westbrooke, Mccormick, Ozthumer which are the forwards thinking players..Upson, Grant just not up to it they are so lightweight and don't win the ball often enough...the others questionable.. how many chances do you give likes of Barrett, Hargreaves and Rodman who is getting older.
Strikers. We are relying on Hanlon who is doing his best with service and support given. As others are saying another striker with more experienced and history of scoring at this level is also required.
We are desperately missing Nicholson, Ozthumer and Daly, they are all players that offer the team something when they are playing, need to get them in the staring 11 as soon as possible.
