The rumours about the players using illegal substances surfaced a few months before the end of the season and well before the forum was shutdown. The first paragraph or so talks about certain damaging threads on the forum leading to it being shutdown.
The leading player in the shananagins had his contract terminated before the end of the season with no reason given. Definately a case of no smoke without fire and sweeping the problem under the carpet.
Higgs obviously did not like what went on becoming public under his watch and when relegation followed shortly after saw the opportunity to silence the disgruntled fanbase who knew what a shambles the dressing room had become under a weak John Ward, before he had to stepdown and hand DC the reins.
