Have you asked the club to consider taking it down then? Yes, along with others, assuming it's still on the website then it's a mystery why the club are content to standby such a misleading statement. It's in the club and Waels statements so they are not likely to take them down after this time has past. They have obviously taken advice and it would appear that the club are sticking to their guns.

Why would anyone not attend games? Just support the team, the 11 guys who run out on to the pitch. They have not done anything wrong so why should they suffer.

This JB sh** is getting a bit over the top now. I just watched it unravel and so many Rovers fans have already hung the man.
Let it go until we hear a verdict ffs, we now have women's rights knocking on our doors' they know as much as me and, they want to castrate him!!?
Let it go for now until we know more, please. UtG

Quite agree ,why should an incident which the players & staff at the club had no part in influence fans not to attend. Can you imagine if Klopp was accused of something similar,Liverpool fans turning their back on the team. As the well known saying says , no one individual is bigger than the team.

Statement now taken down from club website No it isn't, it's been amended and is further down. It now reads "The football club is aware of the court hearing involving Manager Joey Barton, scheduled to take place on Monday, 26th July. As there are legal proceedings pending, the Club is unable to make further comment at this current time."

I think that was the initial statement from Sunday, which was superseded by Monday's statement which referenced the victimless crime. Monday's statement looks like it has been taken down

Removing the "victimless crime" comments makes it better in my view. No idea why the club ever included it I the first place but at least it's now been removed.

Still a shambles. Wael's open letter refers to a statement that now has been removed. Whoever is in charge of club comms needs to sort themselves out. Wael's letter should have said that the 'victimless' part of Monday's statement was a mistake on the club's part and it would be removed (rather than tell us we had all misinterpreted it) - then the 'paper trail' would all still make sense....

I think this is the time we must go and support the team, they need us now more than ever. I also think that whatever we as individuals/as a fan base think about the current ‘situation’ we should do all we can to not make the atmosphere toxic at the Mem. Let’s get behind em!

For clarification I thought Wael, Tom, the team, back room staff and the fans were THE CLUB

Hi all. Saddler here looking in. Joey Barton has always been a scumbag, and it’s sad to see such a good club as yourselves subjected to the circus around him. Utter twat of a bloke.

Totally agree the club should have issued an unreserved apology and still should for the choice of words in their statement. I really worry about the mindset at our club that have allowed that to appear on the club site. I am so ashamed of the club I love at the moment.

I like Wael, and I like TG, but yes this whole saga has been treated shambolically by the club. Yes, agree Jomo. But, and I’ll be shot down here, TG is Commercial Director I think, so it won’t be directly his responsibility surely nor will he be accountable for that statement. I presume that directors have areas of responsibility and will be acting within those. Otherwise there’d be no organisation to it whatsoever. That being the case would it have been the whole board which approved that statement in which case I’m wrong and he is responsible? Or if it’s the responsibility of Wael, as owner, or someone else then I wouldn’t want to blame TG. I guess part of the problem is whereas TG is a known and visible member of the board there are a few who we never hear from, nor see so because he is visible we automatically say TG when we talk about directors. We don’t know do we? Part of the problem that comes from “open letters” being the main communications over the past year which seem to happen randomly, imo. UTG! ps. But yes, still a shambles.👍
