Kieran Philips 7 goals in 7 starts for Swindon Supermarine The logical thing would be give Hulbert a run in the first team and loan Phillips to Gloucester to see how he handles the higher level

I wouldn't bank on Kieran Phillips being given a chance, I bumped into his dad the other night, his contract is up in January and he has received a text message from Eddy Jennings telling him he is no longer wanted and free to join another club. Who the f--k is Eddy Jennings to tell him, he's not even employed by the club.

The blokes done excellent out on loan and deserves his chance, especially at a time when we’re crying out for something new in the striking department. I thought the whole club mentality now was centred around giving chances to youth players, it hasn’t seemed that way since Barton arrived bar the odd token appearance handed out to a youngster here or there. If that is what the club have decided and he’s now free to leave then they need to sit him down face to face with Barton or a senior coach and have that discussion with him openly and honestly. Really disagree with the practice of breaking news about peoples livelihoods by text/email, especially when it comes from some non executive director that no-ones ever seen or heard from.

If this is true then its a disgraceful way to act and an awful decision. Would be the straw that breaks the camels back with Barton for me.

It has been a disappointment for me that despite all the noises about what was a successful development squad , the supposed focus on bringing our own players through, and our dire performances on the pitch, a succession of managers have not been prepared to give our own youth a chance , if the gossip mentioned in other posts is true then it will indeed be a shocking indictment on how Bristol Rovers treat there young players.

What youngsters have been given much of a chance this season?

I hope you are making this up as if this is true and Eddy Jennings is calling the tune on contracts then Barton has effectively taken over. Wael might has well give his shares to Barton to formalise the take-over. Seriously, I do hope this Eddy Jennings thing is not true...but I would not be surprised by anything anymore. What a mess Wael has created for himself and the club if true.

What youngsters have been given much of a chance this season? Plenty of youngsters given the chance in the Mickey mouse cup this season. You only have to look back over many years to see that hardly any of our youngsters make it through to the first team. Just another stick to beat Barton with when many managers over many years have not brought through young players.

Hoole and Walker featured a bit last season as well. Lets see Sat what the Messiah does with the team now we have few defensive options! Not seen much involvement while we have been short of strikers.

I recall games in the Mickey Mouse Cup where many young players were given a chance and failed miserably to shine enough to warrant a place in the squad. Hulbert looks to be the only one who could maybe be good enough to come into the squad. Our youngsters and not so youngsters like Hargreaves are just not good enough. They are maotly National League or below standard.

Seems to me that when a young player gets selected for said 'mickey Mouse' cup game he has to produce a MOM performance to earn any .recognition whereas some established players can keep turning in dire ,mistake ridden performances and keep getting selected.

The fact with football today is that the main young talent is being horded by the Premiership and the majority that are left are unlikely to make the standard of League football. In fact only a small proportion of the youngsters who turn out in the Premiership teams under 21s will actually make it even into a League Two club.It was always hard to become a proffessional footballer as so many end up failing and always have. The gems are there but finding them is as much luck as good judgement.Hulberts recent record at a reasonable non league level would suggest if he keeps it up he could warrant a place on the bench and a chance.
