I agree with some of what you say. I do believe that there is a lot of hypocrisy flying around (sometimes literally!) but that's par for the course in politics and at the upper echelons of society. Do you not think though that your attitude is rather childish and petty "I'll be onboard when they do their bit". I mean, if we ALL do our own little bit, even if it's just spending 10 minutes more each week to do more recycling or composting or something, that's better than just saying "* it, as they're not doing enough over there, so why should I?". That attitude is something I find very negative and doesn't help anyone. It’s not negative, it’s called not being a mug. Look at it: They say the worlds going to end Broadly, they say the solution to the world ending is to accept less. Lower living standards. The people saying this do nothing of the sort. Doing that little extra bit while others do as they please, is what I call being a mug. If anything it’s naieve to want your head patted for being a good person while others take the loot. Exactly like the peasants who lived meagre lives for pleasures in heaven. While the church smiled and took the money I wholeheartedly disagree. The choices I make to do my own little bit are for no one other than myself. I don't look to be commended, I just do what I personally think is right. I think what it boils down to is you over politicising everything if you think that you're being a mug by doing something that others won't. I think that just boils down to you not caring enough to make smalls changes to your own life that will have no effect on you or your enjoyment of it. The fact that I compost my food and purchase alternative products from time to time has no material impact on my life, so I choose to do it. I in no way whatsoever consider that that makes me a mug.

Like not eating meat, but eating legumes. Like not having abundant power, but having scarce and expensive power (even though everyone knows nuclear is there shouting “here!” but they don’t want to know . That really is weird isn’t it? The solution is right there but they prefer to just tell you to accept less instead) Like being cold instead of being warm. None of these choices actually improve living standards. It reminds me of George Carlin “ religion has got you believing that there’s a magical man in the sky who watches everything you do and he has a list 10 things you should always do, and if you don’t he will damn you for eternity. But he loves you, and he needs money” Cant help but think that someone has got the world convinced that the end is nigh and to save it we need to give up notions of personal enrichment and accept a subsistence lifestyle - whereas those who educated you need not, as their work is vital and important” It is a bit strange how it gives those people everything they’ve ever wanted - strong social controls, a two tier society to Keep the plebs off the nice holiday spots. An empowered technocratic class and a lumpen proletariat, weakened from a lack of protein and decent food sources and huddling together for warmth under a crap air pump heating system. And of course - none of this can be discussed and debated. It has to happen NOW ! No time to lose or the world may end! I smell a rat being honest.

They are selfish, so you are selfish. So we are all selfish and nothing ever gets done. As others have said, small changes made by millions of people have a significant effect. Just one small example. Save 10g of plastic packaging a week by buying loose goods and reusing bags where possible. That's 10g x 52 weeks x (say) 20 million people in the UK = 5 million kg of plastic saved per annum. Meanwhile Boris doesn't care. But you could care, and feel good knowing you and others have done your bit and it makes a significant difference.

Nothing you personally do is going to change what’s going to happen. As I say, get ready for living standards to plummet. Bags or no bags, in 5 years air travel will be a luxury, meat will be off the chart, we will have or be about to have a digital currency and a social credit system. This is all happening under the watch of a conservative government, nobody voted for any of this, but it’s been arranged. Good luck! We are in the post Democratic age!

Whatdo you not get with the example Aghast used? Quite clearly one person isn't going to make a difference but if everyone made a change it would make a difference. Are you happy seeing plastic wash up on beaches? Do you enjoy seeing the rainforests destroyed for agriculture? To be honest your attitude is laughable and thankfully seems to be in the minority now. And you come across as someone who spends far too much time reading conspiracy theories.

For the majority of people that can't afford to make radical changes in their lives, going on foreign holidays has always been a luxury. Why do you think going greener is what is changing that? I am fortunate enough to go on the occasional foreign holiday, but my family was skint when I was growing up, I didn't catch my first flight until I was 16, when my grandparents died and my parents thought it would be nice to go on our first foreign family holiday by using some of the money passed down to my Dad. You seem to have such a chip on your shoulder that you can't even bring yourself to admit that actually it is very simple for you and almost everyone else to do something little to make change for the better, no matter how small. Edit: plus if you have to have a few more vegetables and a little less meat, and you consider that to be "lower living standards" then that's pretty pathetic. Again I am fortunate enough to be able to afford meat 7 days a week, but I choose to eat some vegetarian meals because it's cheaper, and there are many many recipes that are actually very tasty without having to incorporate meat. A bag of carrots and a bag of potatoes has always been cheaper than a steak for as long as I can remember at least. I am by no means an eco warrior, but it's not about making radical changes or being an activist. I just make small choices within my own capabilities and financial and time limits. I guess that makes me a mug?

I’d nearly always go for pizza, burger or steak but with all the cop 26 stuff on the tv I’d thought I’d make a tiny little contribution by having a risotto instead this time ……. And it was bloody lovely 😊 It won’t save the planet but if we all make an effort it’s a start.

I love risotto , I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but I do frequent plenty of vegan restaurants as the food is the best I’ve eaten. I can recommend a few places to eat if you genuinely enjoy vegan ?
