The science has been there for many years showing a deteriorating situation. The younger generation have acted upon it rather than the politicians who kicked the problem into the long grass and kept putting off dealing with it effectively. It’s taken some very young people to give it a high profile. Our leaders didn’t lead until they were almost shamed into it and that’s why I suggested it was shameful.
UTG!
The science showed an ice age coming in the 1970s and 1980s. If we had acted on “the science” then we would have been trying to warm the planet.
What’s actually happened is that young, impressionable minds have been told that there is a doomsday event coming. This has been manipulated into a generational conflict, and the children are basically pawns of their educators, who want to see radical changes, a lot of which threatens peoples jobs and livelyhoods - but thankfully for them, not the academic institutions, for which this is a massive benefit.
They then use children as a human shield, and try to pass off what is basically indoctrination as “the children have spoken!”
A five minute conversation with your average young person will leave virtually no doubt they don’t know their backside from a barn door and merely take on what is the most socially acceptable opinion, especially in the view of their educators.
The quicker we can turn education into an open place with an exchange of ideas, rather than a highly politicised place which it is today, the better.
All those kids aren’t old enough to do their own research, they are literally being told what to think. You can get kids to believe in anything, which is why ideologues go after them.
If you genuinely think that this is the youth of the world uniting and leading the way for the old, then there’s nothing I can do to help you. Go and immerse yourself in the broadsheet narrative which feels so comfortable because if you can’t see this is manufactured and a cynical way to pass off political moves as some kind of organic, hold hands under a rainbow, young people wag the finger at the old type thing then agreement won’t be reached.
Greta’s own conservative upbringing I guess is a case in point. Ah, wait. Sorry, no, her parents are activists aren’t they. I’m sure she would be a campaigner anyway regardless.
Come on. Some of this nonsense is getting out of control now.
1. Clearly.
2. You seem to have taken it upon yourself to politicise most threads regardless of the original topically recently which I'm finding annoying on a football forum.
3. Do ThEiR oWn ReSeArCh is one of the most infuriating things to say and rarely comes from a place of understanding. Following the science is not just finding what fits your narrative and publicising it. Following the science allows you to change your mind when overwhelming data is presented to you. But these approaches are almost always neglected by those with a strongly held viewpoint. "Generational conflict", "ice age/warming the planet", "socially acceptable opinion", and "broadsheet narrative" are exactly the sort of clueless comments that stifle the "exchange of ideas" you apparently want. They are just childish ways to deflect actual scientific debate into pseudophilosophical/political crap.
I've bitten on this because every time I seem to check the forum for football talk at the moment there is derailing of football topics into this sort of rubbish. Take it to general chat please.
